  1. IIRC, once the scuttle is off, it is just pop rivited to tubes top and bottom.
  2. On my crossflow I just removed the loom completely I think. Otherwise, can you pull the forward loom back into the car, then bag and tape it?
  3. I bought an sold one for £50 about 18 months ago. Bit of a long story, but during my rebuild I ended up with 3 gearboxes!
  4. Have you checked the temperature of the calipers after a run? I had a sticking caliper once and it caused similar issues, not sure why, but I thought it might be overheating the fluid in the caliper, hence causing fade.
  5. Adrian, can I have second dibs please> I am in South Bucks too. John
  6. I had the same problem last year, turned out to be the electronic ignition unit, which was breaking down as it got hot. (Not sure if you have this system or points!) Once I changed that the car was fine, and has been ever since.

  10. It's hard to tell from the picture, but the rear stop/tail lamp looks a lot like one from a MK3 Spitfire to me.
  11. This one might be worth a look. A bit of a left-field choice, but I stumbled upon it the other day. http://www.douglasvalley.co.uk/item.asp?prodid=1347&spg=4&pgid=1
  12. 35p from Caterham https://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1528&osCsid=fd5b7876f3ee79c5206930da19a854d4
  13. Hi Ric Depending on the timing, then yes. Always worth a blatmail. We tend to have cars at the 'lower' end of the range. We don't go in for GTI, Cabriolet etc.
  14. As you may know I run a vehicle rental company. I occasionally offer some of our used staff cars on here. We have got 2 company cars coming up for disposal. Golf diesel 1.9 Match 5-doors. Registered January 2008 (57 plate). Used as staff cars from new, hence low mileage 7-8,000. In good condition, and have just been VW dealer serviced. One in silver, one in black. £10,300. 15. I had mine removed at Ratrace as part of some other work, and I though they came up with quite a nice solution on this. They removed the carrier, but left about 2cm of prongs on the chassis, sealed with rubber bungs. It is not noticeable. I have then got some tube of slightly smaller diameter, and sleeved it into the carrier, secured with bolts on both ends. I now can reattach it easily if I want to carry a spare, but it is left off most of the time.
  16. Hi Chris The splines are different, you will need to get that changed, or a new prop. When I did the conversion on my car, the propshaft clinic in Bradford did me a brand new propshaft for £117 including delivery. I went for this, because it seemed a better bargain than having my old one refurbished. All you need to do is tell them the overall length, plus the diff and gearbox type. I think I got mine in under a week.
  17. For anyone who just wants a bit of glass, you can take your frame to Autoglass, who will send it to their specialist glass unit in Bristol. About a week later it will be back at your local centre, with the glass installed in the frame. Cost me £70 a couple of years ago.
  18. I think with a Crafter you will have the wheelbox intrusion, especially as it will be ply-lined. A Luton would be better.
  19. The chassis would be far too big for a normal 'Transit sized van', if you mean a 260 or 280. The issue you would also have with a LWB van like a Sprinter 4.0 wheelbase (4.2m in the latest ones) is wheelarch intrusion into the loadspace. I would play safe and hire a Transit Luton with a 13'6 box body and a tail-lift. You can get them from most van rental companies, but not near Christmas as they as all on hire to the Royal Mail (probably). It will definately go in there with lots of room for the ancilliaries and other stuff, plus they will have extra room for fragile parts over the cab section. The lift will also greatly assist getting the very heavy bits in and out. I used one of these picking my chassis up from Arch, but take lots of rope and straps.
  20. Well, it's nice to be able to make the first reply on a thread without SM25T getting there first! Do you think he will complain? If it's an 05 registration its trade price if £5,400, +£250 if its a 55 plate. I don't think the engine makes any difference. In fact, it a new engine seems to put a lot of people off, for no rational reason.
  21. If it was one click I would suspect the solenoid. Multiple clicks usually indicate a knackered battery. Might be a boot or other small light left on, or shorted? When it's running again check if any of them are hot.
  22. Petrol is about 6lb per gallon iirc.
  23. But does it say how tight the belts have to be?
  24. Sorry John, but why do you need to drill the rivets out? Remove the 2 nuts each side, where the scuttle attaches to the main body, under the knee rolls, then take out the retaining plates underneath. You can then just take the wiper arms off, run a knife over the silicone sealant under the bonnet, and then the whole lot will come off in one, with the screen attached. You will also have to deal with anything routed via the scuttle, or attached to it, but it would seem an easier method to me. More views welcome!
