  1. I got a good price from Redline in Caterham John
  2. Just want some opinions. Last month I swapped my standard Ital axle for Nigel's old one which has LSD and discs. It has done great things for the feel of the car, and I love the change. Some people have said that I should keep the old axle as a spare, but I am not sure, so, 2 questions - Is there any special reason for keeping the old one: i.e are spares really in such short supply? - What is an Ital axle, with new bearings and brake parts 2,000 miles ago actually worth? Opinions welcome!
  3. Has it been re-listed? I couldn't find it. Can someone post a link?

    SVA for rebuilds

Dave, I think that points system only comes into play when you have either built a kit, or rebuilt a write-off. If your car was not a write off, and you have the V5, I would just take it for an MOT.

    SVA for rebuilds

Hi David Having been through a similar situation, I am pretty sure the answer is 'no' If you have kept the same chassis / engine /colour etc, and the car was not an insurance write-off, and that you have the V5 for the vehicle, you just need to take it for an MOT, as you would for a car that has been off the road. 6. Nigel, as one of the 'stupid people' who commented, perhaps you should take a look at yourself. I think your attempts at self justification are quite pathetic, and are shown up by the help that you are now getting. Perhaps a little more humility and a little less aggression would be in order.
  7. And I quote... Cant get on Blatchat again tonight. Why oh why do I bother paying for membership? The mag is crap, the web site is crap, cant someone just put a bullet in the back of the head of this old horse and send it to the web glue factory??? Please. Nigel. Not very nice Nigel
  8. Hi Graham Would it not be more economical / simpler to buy a complete engine from a salvager?
  9. As a first measure I would put another gallon in, and see if that makes a difference. At least you will be absolutely sure then that the fuel pick up is immersed. As Paul says, you may have whacked the pipe! You might also want to check the fuel filter, if there is one.

    LSD

Just got back from Ratrace, where they fitted Nigels old diff, with LSD and disc brakes, into my 1995 crossflow. It's early days, but it seems to have transformed the handling of the vehicle, and it generally feels a lot more confident on the road. Looks like an excellent upgrade for new and old cars!

    LSD

This all sounds good. I am picking my crossflow up from Ratrace on Saturday, after having a replacement axle with LSD fitted. (Plus a lot of other mods)
  12. Have a look at the vehicle wiring products website.
  13. Full set + one extra front. Not the best cosmetically but fine for racing (Not that I would know!) Say £95 the lot? Pick up only, South Bucks. Thanks John
  14. I hate electrical problems! Firstly, I would take off the aluminium cover over the pedals, and have a look at the brake light actuator. You will see this attached to the brake pedal, and if you get someone to push the pedal while looking down at it, it will be clear how it works. It is possible that it or the wires to it have become dislodged, or there is a short in the wiring attachment. It is also possible the unit has failed, although they are cheap. (This is the system on my 1995 Crossflow, although I have heard of some cars with a different system) Hope this helps.

    Lazy starting

I have just changed from a mechanical to an electric fuel pump, and starting is miles better. Just turn on the ignition, wait for the clicking to stop, and off it goes! Setok, when you are turning it over, is it turning over slowly, or spinning but not starting? If it's the latter, it's worth checking out the major earth leads. They can fray inside and fail. A clue is them being quite hot (Be careful, obviously!)
  16. I think what can be sold depends on the category of write off. If it's D or C it can be put back on the road, if it's B, then the breaker has to cus the body up after the parts have been removed.
  17. I am not sure that you could pursue rejection as the faults are not 'major', however, if you can get free legal advice (From membership of AA/RAC, or through house insurance), it is worth exploring the option. Have you tried directly speaking to MINI customer complaints?
  18. I have got a seat back in reasonable / good condition. No seat bases unfortunately. Would sell for £40 John
  19. Clutch cable beginning to fail is the obvious one. Have you taken it off for a look? Might be worth replacing it, or taking a spare! It might also be the release bearing on the clutch, which is an engine out job to change. However, they can go for a while before they fail.
  20. I had a similar problem recently. After a shed load of tiral and error it turned out that the ignition pack had died!
  21. Mine is exactly the same as Alex's, and it was fully rebuilt less than 1k ago.
  22. As some people know, I run a small specialised rental company. We get the odd car that comes back early, and we normally sell these to dealers. However, I often see people on here refer to these cars, so I thought it might be a good deal for someone. so Golf 2.0GT TDI 170PS 5-door Reflex silver Registered 28/09/07 7,726 miles Price £15,950 Vehicle supplied new by UK main dealer, no damage. John PS - Mav, if this is seen as 'commercial' advertising, I apologise and please remove the thread.
  23. On second thoughts, perhaps it's the earth lead from the reverse light switch on the gearbox (Not if it's a 4-speed)
