  1. I have a 1995 Kawasaki Zephyr 750 in the back of my garage that I decided to get working again. It was working perfectly when I parked it up nearly 3 years ago. After changing the oil and filter I put a new battery on - and nothing. There are no ignition or oil lights, and the bike is dead. The new battery is fine when tested across the terminals. I think my next move is to take the ignition switch out in case that is sticking, but I wondered if anyone had any other ideas on how to proceed?
  2. I would get a second opinion, but on my 1995 crossflow I do not recall any captive nuts.
  3. Graham Do you have points in the dizzy? If you drive it more than 10 miles, does the misfire get worse progressively, or stay the same after its started?
  4. CaterBram I could be interested in yours. Do you know how old it is? Thanks John
  5. Anyone got one lying around? I would even consider a full system, especially if 4 into 1
  6. I have still got mine, so if you need a pew pages faxed or copied and posted, let me know. John
  7. It ay be worn out, but oil contamination is also a possibility. I presume there is a rear crank oil seal that you can replace.
  8. It may not be what you want to hear, but a screeching noise when a clutch pedal is depressed is normally a CRB issue.

    Whine

Very likely, although it might also be the bearing in the water pump.
  10. You can use the watts linkages as guidelines, but you will not get the height right, or the rear position. I would find a local car and take a load of photos and measurements.
  11. Hi Setok I would give Redline a call. I am sure they would post you one. REDLINE COMPONENTS LIMITED, Timber Hall, 19 Timber Lane, Caterham, Surrey CR3 6LZ Telephone: 01883 346515 (INT +44 1883 346515) FAX: 01883 341604 (INT +44 1883 341604)
  12. 99% it will be the battery. Did you try cranking with the lights running, to see if they dimmed?
  13. Hi Ric We are disposing of 2 GT TDi Sport 140PS at the moment. Registered 2009 (58 plate), with full leather. Mileages 10-14,000. Price £15,500. Any good? PS - As we are not a dealer, there is no part exchange / finance. The vehicles have been through our refurb centre.
  14. We are currently disposing of some 2009 registered (58 plate) Golf 1.9TDI Match 5-doors. Mileages vary but from 14,000 (If I recall correctly). Price c£12,500. Owned by us from new, with no damage above normal wear and tear.
  15. Hi We will have some Caddy off fleet in the new year. I can sell one to you for the same price as we get from the trade if that suits. John
  16. I would do a search, as the subject has been covered loads of times. You can either shorten the propshaft or buy a new one. I got a new one for £117 from Bradford Propshaft services. You will need the angled speedo drive (surprisingly expensive IIRC), plus new clutch and speedo cables. You will also need to run an earth lead to the reverse light, as the 5-speed needs one but the 4-speed doesn't. You may also find (I can't remember) that the clutch is different too.
  17. Could you not find a local garage to you with a press? I doubt they would charge you more than a tenner.
  18. Is it possible the problem is with your key unit?
  19. Not sure about the other points, but one cause of 'drag' (I presume you mean turning slowly) can be a corroded earth cable. These can look OK but be poor inside. One way to determine this is to see if the earth cable gets hot as the starter motor turns over. (Be careful, they can be VERY hot)

  21. Unless you have x-ray vision, as Brent says, I would take the cover off that the gearlever comes through. On my car there (1995 crossflow), there is thar cover plus a larger one, but your car may be different. While you are having a look, you could also take some of the weight of the engine on a trolley jack (But not too much), and see if there is left / right movement of the gearbox rear part. It sounds like a propshaft UJ, or else the gearbox mounting, as others have said. Either way, I would think carefully about driving until you resolve it!
  22. You can get them from Caterham, and they are not expensive. If yours are worn, particularly the A frame one, it will affect the handling. The A frame one is a diy one, some of the others it will be easier if you have a press. However, you can normally find a local garage to replace them with their press for a few quid, if you take the parts along to them.
  23. Not an expert, but people seem to recommend misab plates seem to be popular to prevent / minimise air leaks. See here http://www.fastroadcars.co.uk/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=106 I have also been told that it is a mistake to have the carbs too tight, there should be some movement up and down. Are you sure your mixture is not too lean, and that there is adequate fuel flow to the carbs?
  24. I would try to run it flat again, and then charge it up the right way round. You might have buckled the plates though.
