  1. Not sure about the rose joint, but any of the other bushes are available off the shelf from Caterham or Redline.
  2. In the abscence of a more expert opinion, I'd say go for any Ford that used that engine, for example a pre-facelift MK3 Cortina. The best thing to do is whip the alternator out any take it with you to a motor factors or a big Halfords (if you have one close) and match it to one on the shelf.
  3. Actually I would be in a better position, because I would have some headrests, so ignore last post! Perhaps I could add them to the 2 sets of bench seats I have and don't use either....
  4. Then i would have 4 seats and 2 headrests, and be in the same relative position I am in now!
  5. Anyone got any lying around? The colour is grey.
  6. Why not try attaching a plug lead directly to the coil, and seeing if there is a spark then. If the is, then the distributor is at fault, if not, then the fault is in the ignition pack, as the coil is new.
  7. No problem to let the tube rest on the chassis, but for peace of mind perhaps have a couple of old bits of carpet handy As to an estimate, no more than 3-4 hours
  8. Mick, is it fair to say 'The Guardian' is not a daily read for you?
  9. In that case I think the 'nice' policeman is being a bit of a basteward. He could have dealt with it as a 3-pointer easily. Good luck with it!
  10. Just by the way, what sort of 60 limit were you doing 90+ on?
  11. I think they stay on for 4, but count for 3.
  12. You can get them from Rimmer Brothers. However, as they are sandwiched between the wheel and the hub by the wheel nuts, I just leave them off. If you use ones that are slightly too long they can affect the seating of the wheel.
  13. Anyone interested in the following? Fiat Panda 1.1 Active 5-door Registered 31/10/06 Mileage 6,200 Colour - New Orleans Blue (Metallic, quite a nice colour) £4,500 ONO. They cost around £5,250 new (including metallic), so this is a pretty good reduction. They are perfect first cars.
  14. Crudders, you are psychic! There was an advert today, and I got all the bits I need, apart from the uprights, for £100.
  15. Thanks v much Crudders I forgot to say earlier that when Bruce did my chassis he included the lower wishbone mod, so the front of the lower wishbone is now held on by a large nut and bolt, rather than by the captive. Edited by - John Ryan on 8 May 2007 16:56:39
  16. Hi Ric I have a 1995 chassis. This was rebuilt by Arch last year, and Bruce told me than that the front pick-up points can be added easily, as they bolt onto the front vertical chassis rail. I don't want too extreme a set up, just the one that became current (I think) in 1996.
  17. I know there have been topics on this, but nothing definative! I have the old type front suspension, with the roll bar acting as one of the suspension links. I have been thinking about changing to the later type, with the additional front link, but it would be nice to know; - Is this of real benefit to the handling / braking performance? - Exactly which parts need to be replaced? - What is the likely overall cost? - How do I get the additional holes made in the bodywork? The second question is key, as I have new suspension and roll bar, and it would be nice to keep these.
  18. There are a number of wheel companies that will take them and bring them back as new, together with a new coat so that they don't corrode in the future. Cost is about £40 per wheel or less.
  19. It was last year since I did this, but me car has the same gearbox / axle set, and I don't recall any play at all (or very minor) when the car was in gear with the back wheels on the floor. If it's completely free play, that just sounds wrong! Could it be that the prop UJ's are very worn? If you take the tunnel top off, or look underneath from the back, is the initial slack being taken up in the joints?
  20. I've got one for a 1995 car. John
  21. For older cars, like mine, I find Redline (also in Caterham) to be a good source of parts and knowledge.
  22. Mine passed an MOT with no sidescreens and just the central mirror.
  23. They were £96 new for the pair, delivered inc VAT. Not sure if it is good value, and it seems high to me, but I'd rather be driving than arguing!
  24. Does anyone know a source of these? I have tried Redline and they are on back order.
