  1. Thank you! Although "crimping off a length" is an oft-used euphemism chez nous. It does all look pretty major in there. (I was waiting for the hard-edged "pah! Easy! 5 minute job you can do yourself" sort-of-response. And rightly so - the majority of things on that car I have found are within even my namby-pamby engineering expertise. But I don't want it stopping like that again!)
  2. Help! Mine is a battered 1990 crossflow, with electrics in need of upgrading. I tried to start the car yesterday for the drive home but nothing. After ruling out battery failure (charge was strong that morning), a faulty immobiliser (the headlights didn't even work - immobiliser doesn't affect them), I traced the problem to the wiring being fried by the manifold (4.2.1. side exit jobbie). The alternator had been protected with heat shield (and was new 5 years ago), but the "main" wire was cooked bby the manifold - the copper was visible. I jiggled it, indicators started working = circuit, car started. Hurrrah. One interesting side effect was on the way home, in the outside lane of the A1 near Hendon, the engine just cut out with no spark. As I was going uphill, and the seven has the same momentum as a jay cloth, I was unable to pull in past inside traffic and stopped in the outside lane. I got it out the way after that "wave" of traffic had passed, but it was not what I'd call a pleasant 2 minutes. I jiggled wire again, and got home - a most salutary experience. I was very glad my 12 year old daughter wasn't with me. Now, what is the best way to prevent this occurring again? Is there a better place to run the "big" cable? Is it easy to fix onself - or should I be callling Ratrace? Cars and boats ... here
  3. Hmmm - shame really, as those wings look far more in keeping with an "old" seven (especially like mine). There must be some kind of generic alternative. Also, there is a series II seemingly in permanent resident at Protune/Ratrace - I'll ask there.
  4. I spoke to Dartford Domposites. £100 each (same as Caterham for standarrd version), 11" wide, available in all 4 standard Caterham colours. lead time about 2 weeks (they are made up especially). The light cluster, including rubber bush, come from a Mark II Capri - can anyone confirm this? Darford composites here Tempting project!
  5. My lovely old battered series 3 (1990 live axle ford) deserves new rear wings. I've been thinking about series 2 wings, just because I hink they look nicer. As per here Dartford Composites make them, and mr car is standard BRG. I'm not rying to pass the car off as something it's not or anything daft. Any thoughts of what I should look out for? I have an ital axle, so they'll fit. What might one do about stone protection? I assume I'll need new light clusters too... Cars and boats ... here Edited by - Vole sunset on 28 Jan 2009 00:42:02
  6. Hey! That worked!!! Originality is great, but plagiarism is a lot faster ... Cars and boats ... here
  7. No. That didn't work. I hope you all don't mind my general fannying around in this thread Originality is great, but plagiarism is a lot faster ... here
  8. hello too. (I actually just want to see how you get the linky to Pictures of Me with the trite aphorism at the bottom. ...) http://community.webshots.com/user/Uiscete
  9. Hmmm. I shall pop back down sometimes. I can really only make it when Sir isn't watching, as he likes to spank boys who bunk off. 🙆🏻
  10. Correct! Although I am not Hoopy. Or Spartacus.
  11. "West Indies best bowlers liked England's openers to shake". Six lettters 😬
  12. I don't come down here very often. It's a bit damp and smelly. Quite nice, really. Anyway, the setter of today's cryptic crossword may be a closet Shedder.
  13. I fell asleep on the sofa, then into the insidious arms of blatchat. I really have just taken my cold feet to bed. Wightblat? Er, sounds good - am often to be found racing my Other Toy in that general neck of the woods (An RS200 sailing boat, which takes a lot less general bimbling round in than The Seven). no doubt thre'll be sticky at the top of Chit chat ... will advise ...
  14. Bonsoir M. M25! Yup - brakes seem fine now. The cap on the MC had jumped a thread, which I assume was causing the problem. The emerging brake fluid was an amusing shade of brown: I wonder if it had ever been changed in its 20 years. The next trick will be removing the stuff (which missed the bucket) from the drive, before Mrs Sunset gets grumpy. In any event, your online advice was most useful - and you know where I live now! You're welcome to swing by. I occasionally do Penn Sevens - is there somthing nearer? For when I get all tyre-kicky and dweeby?
