  2. Ian When I removed my engine last winter (HG and CRB failure) I also left the gearbox in the car. I removed the passenger side chassis diagonal and the alternator before lifting the engine although now I have an Apollo I realise that this would be much more difficult. Angus and Tessa's website show pics of their engine being removed with the Apollo and alternator left in place IIRC. I disconnected each plug individually. Make sure you support the gearbox at it's front end initially with a jack and later with a strap and a piece of timber bridging the footwells. Take the opportunity to remove that bl *eek*dy great lump of redundant aluminium that was part of the transverse engine mount system. Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here

    Rear Brake Hoses

The saga continues.... Managed to disconect the handbrake cable clevises from the calipers after some fiddling with the adjuster 😳 and removed the calipers. Trial fitted the ears, shims and calipers onto the new DD tube (see gallery below for new pics). Removed the locknuts either side of the tee piece as suggested; looks a bit strange without them, but I understand the logic. It would appear that the flexibles will need to be routed over the radius arms at the point where they attach to the DD tube; will this be OK? Another problem has arisen though in that the original ear to tube bolts which are fitted into the two 'blind' tapped holes appear to bottom out before they can be fully tightened. Surely this is not right I have fitted the aluminium shim between the ear and the tube and also a spring washer and plain washer under the bolt but on two of them the bolt actually goes right through the flange and hits the end of the tube. Just hope I haven't damaged the hole threads I suppose I could either shorten the bolt or add a couple more washers; not very satisfactory though Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here

    Rear Brake Hoses

As some on BC may know I'm in the process of fitting a new DD tube to my car. I'm also taking the opportunity to get rid of the solid brake pipes running along the tube and fit flexibles instead. I'm using P clips to secure the flexibles to the tube but whichever way I offset the T piece I can't get the amount of hose beyond each end of the DD tube to be equal. See my gallery below for pics. I suppose I should fit the ears and calipers to the tube to ensure that the hoses can reach the calipers but I didn't want to disturb the handbrake cable (the calipers are still hanging by the handbrake cable under the car). Any thoughts Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here
  5. Do you mean these here... here which I think are motorbike specific. The car oils don't appear to be shown yet I wonder if they will appear under 'powersports'. You could speak to Opie Oils. Bought some Pro S 5W-40 from them a couple of weeks ago Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here Edited by - Bozz on 2 Feb 2007 10:32:57

  9. I'm in the process of changing from solid to flexible rear brake pipes and on removing one of the old brake pipes it revealed a quite heavily corroded thread in the caliper . I don't really want to strip down the caliper just to clean out the thread but fear I may have to. Any thoughts Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here
  10. Stu I have one if you want it. I made an aluminium copy to save weight Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here

  12. The brake hoses I've just got from CC seem to have a separate metric / imperial adaptor to fit the T-piece which is identified by notches across the corners of the hex. Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here

  15. Ian Look on the bright side, it could have been worse; you could have ended up with a see thru' block like a couple of other VX's recently and now there is surely an ideal opportunity for more upgrades. Likewise if there is anything I can do to help just let me know as I'm not a million miles away from you Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here
