  1. Just spoken to BGH who say the Quaife case needs a lot of machining to take their internals. For me that tips the balance back to the 6 speed as a plug and play option.
  2. appreciate all the input. I guess yes I am unlikely to trouble vmax in most situations but am pretty confortable with current ratios Anyone know if its likely to be a problem dropping bgh internals into a quaife case ? thanks
  3. After replacing all the gaskets and still having a sizeable leak, am 99% sure that I have a cracked gearbox case on my BGH E7 HD 5 speed box. Being based in Switzerland impacts my options to get this fixed a little costwise. I have narrowed down the choice to replacing the case with a Quaife alloy one (have yet to confirm the the BGH internals fit OK) or purchasing a second hand 6 speed one My car is a 190hp K series with 3.92 diff used mostly for sprinting and trakdays but some roadwork also. My gear ratio range is 2.75 to .86. thoughts.... 1) Quaife - looking through bchat there still seems to be some cracking issues even with this case. Cost approx £500 incl lid. No idea what sort of labour time is involved in transposing the internals. 2) 6 speed - concern about provenance of secondhand box. Doubts about whether 6th gear direct ratio and 3.92 diff are an appropriate combination. Lack of knowledge about why the 6 speed box is stronger (is it ?) Any comments / advice gratefully received. there is a s/h 6 speed on ebay currently, closiig on 31st. Anyone know anything about that ? What would an appropriate price be ?
  4. Have a K series with starter relay mod (which has worked perfectly for 2 years). Have had engine and gearbox out yesterday to fix a gearbox oil leak. Car started fine 4 times, but know blows the inline fuse in the starter relay everytime I press the starter button. Have looked at the wires to the starter/solendoid for burns/shorts etc but found nothing. Am thinking an earthing issue but ?? Any ideas please....
  5. On a K series with a 5 speed box. Am going to try to do this without removing the engine, just moving it as far as is will go forward in the chassis. Will this work ?
  6. Can't be many Monaco registered 21s can there ? Spotted last Thurs near the casino
  7. I realise there are millions of old threads about aeroscreens but having looked through a good few I can't easily find what I need to know. For trackday use only, I want to be able to quickly switch from full windscreen to aeroscreen+mirrors. Am considering - 2 caterham perspex race aeros (the little single ones) held by rivnuts ? - rif screen - brooklands to be honest I'm a bit stumped as how the mirrors are attaching, both the centre and the side mirrors. also, i want minimal damage/holes visible when the full screen is back in place any thoughts as to whats the quickest to change over ? cheers

    Aeroscreen

I'd be up for one of those as well !
  9. Financially about £1300 minimum so its not cheap, and if you run a standard engine you can blow a few up and replace from breakers before its economical. If you have any engine mods done it can quickly become cheap insurance. Caterham do 2 options, oil tank in bellhousing or external tank, and Pace do their own set up.
  10. Foam doesn't work, especially if you have had any head gasket problems, in which case it last only a few miles. Hellier baffle doesn't work either (at least on track, might cope fine with tescos though as long as you take it easy...) Dry sump is the only track solution, everything else is just living on borrowed time (speaking from experience) Caterham oil pressure gauge is so heavily damped that most people will not realise they are in dangerous territory.
  11. Has anyone got any instructions they can share ? thanks
  12. Have switched to Pagid pads rs15/14 and have huge lock up at the back. DT sell several. AP seems to be twice the price of Tilton. Is there one thats typically used on a seven, and where is the easiest place to locate it ? By the master cylinder ? Is there a place in the cockpit thats discreet and easy to fit ? thanks Edited by - Mathew Rimmer on 21 Jul 2007 14:30:21
  13. Probably 70:30 road and track. I too thought they would be long lasting, but was surprised at the Porsche stats, albeit they are somewhat more lardy and with a tad more power. Edited by - Mathew Rimmer on 29 Jun 2007 22:15:18
