Spotted within a few minutes of each other on Sunday morning:-
McLaren Mercedes SLR Spider and Audi R8
R8 in particular is a great looking piece of kit. All IMHO of course 😬

I'm already committed to helping Darren with dressing his engine this w/e but could drop off some Loctite if you need it. Can I assume that you'll be doing this by unbolting the bearing housing from the ear and extracting the driveshafts as an assembly with the discs?

As I understand it the plastic dowels were used to avoid damage (to the head gasket) during initial engine assembly in the factory. Maybe it was Oily who told me this when he was fitting a new HG and steel dowels to my engine a year or so ago. Can't remember now (old age).

Must admit I do remember the fitters going all 'misty eyed' talking of the 28LBer but never actually saw one. Had enough trouble swinging a 14 especially when perched on a scaffold board 60ft up in the air. 😳 😬 😬

Actually I do possess various BFH's including a 14pounder for use with flogging spanners 🙅🏻♂️. Not found a use for one of these on the K yet though 😬 😬

No you're probably right 😳
I didn't realise that Tim had already got the head off. It was the reference to a BFH that worried me a little 😳 😬 😬 But then I is an engineer so what do I know

I don't mean to be rude or dismissive of your abilities as a mechanic but it may be prudent to let someone like Dave Andrews do the job and for you to watch and even help. Then the next time you need to do it (if you do) at least you'll know all the pitfalls and the tricks and tools you'll need to work on the 'K'

On the SLR 4-2-1 I was under the impression that the secondaries were replaced by a 4-1 collector and cat and that no changes were required to the silencer to accomodate.

I think they vary a bit in length but on my EU2 engine (no heater) the 5/16" (16mm) section is about 500 to 600mm long from the water rail to the inline adaptor piece where the hose changes size. All as far as I can remember.

Is it rough or just lumpy?
Mine is a 1.6SS EU2 with the same bits as yours plus verniers and does have a hint of the 'funny car wobble' at idle which I quite like actually. 😬

Mine does this at motorway speeds and have considered fitting a diode across the fan motor, but so far have not done so.

T'was me.
Couldn't face the M25 on the way home too so used the A25 instead.
Actually my initials aren't RDB, the car came with the plate, so if you are interested in buying it make me an offer.

AFAIK its linish the block to restore the liner heights.
I know Tony Whitley did this last year.

It's also possible that the bolts are too long; bottoming out before they have compressed the gasket sufficiently.
