    De Dion Tube

Thanks guys Sensible answers at last Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here
  4. Bozz

    De Dion Tube

It's a simple question Why can't the tube be fitted from the LHS rather than the RHS of the car? I'm planning on replacing my DD tube not building a new car. Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here

    De Dion Tube

Stu 😬 Hopefully someone will know otherwise it will cause me a problem as I can only fit it from the LHS. Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here

    De Dion Tube

Maybe a numpty question but why does the assembly guide suggest that the DD tube should be inserted from the RH side of the car? Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here
  7. Phil No 😬 Just be aware 😬 Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here
  8. Phil No problem; no gasket; no engine so easier to get access. There is however what I can only describe as a cast in lug on the underside of the cover which locates part of what I assume is the selector rail and must obviously be relocated correctly when the cover is replaced. Rightly or wrongly I used blue hylomar to seal the cover on reassembly. Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here

  10. AFAIK you will need a CAT for a kit built car after 1998 (can't remember the month). BTW and completely by chance I have a complete CC short primaried 4-1 with cat and manifold which I could sell you if you are interested. This is from my 1997 1.6 supersport. 11. Phil I bought my MTL directly from Redline UK who had a stand at Autosport 2006 and were selling it straight from their stand although they had run out by the time I realised. You'll need two bottles. Redline were cheaper than DT and also didn't charge carraige at the time. My engine was out at the time, left the gearbox in the car, so I drained the old oil out, and just left it dripping for a few days. Refilled through the top cover until the level was at the bottom of the fill plug. 2nd gear baulks a bit when cold but when warmed up and pressing on it's a joy to use 😬 I'm also considering changing the brake pipes to flexible along with a DD tube change and driveshaft overhaul. I think CC quoted me about £15 per side for the flexibles which they hold in stock; at least they were before Christmas. Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here

  14. Mark Are the Magnecore leads the KV85 8.5mm red version? Are you including the coil lead? Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here Edited by - Bozz on 4 Jan 2007 13:13:24

    Advice please

Ian Suggest you check the water rail to head flange joint - a leak here usually results in coolant running along the head gasket joint t the front of the engine above the alternator where it drips off (the lowest point). Could be caused by overlength bolts bottoming out and not compressing the gasket sufficiently. Alternatively, as on my EU2 engine, it could be failure of the head gasket elastomer seal causing coolant to leak out. Got Oily to change the head gasket on mine. Not sure whether your engine would have one of the later gaskets with 'cross linked' elastomer seal. Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here Edited by - Bozz on 3 Jan 2007 07:57:38
  16. We use electroless (or chemical) nickel plating for corrosion protection in pretty harsh environments including salt water. One of the advantages over electroplating is it gives an even thickness all over including at the edges and corners. Black or 'dirty' nickel is also possible. 17. I've changed from a short primaried 4-1 with cat to CC 4-2-1 w/o cat and IMHO the increase in torque, especially in the midrange, is significant. Hope to do another dyno power run again sometime to confirm what I can feel through my 🙆🏻 😬 Not sure how noticeable or cost effective it would be to change from the long primaried 4-1 though. 18. Guy New engine looks great looked a bit lost in the back of the undertakers van though 😬 Would like to have come over today but unfortunately I've been at the office and will be all week ☹️ BTW is anyone going to the Phoenix tomorrow night? Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here
  19. I've heard it said that the 4 spoke are 'better' than the 3 'coz the clamping is more reliable. Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here
  20. Steve IIRC there is no gasket on the top cover. A tap with a soft faced hammer broke the seal when I removed mine. Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here
  21. Dreamer's ex racecar (like many others I suppose) has the bypass blanked off and no thermostat. This is a Minister engine. IIRC the bypass connection on the waterail is a braised plug and a bonded (epoxy) plug on the thermostat housing. Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here

  23. Rich In case you haven't seen this before from CC... Exhaust Options Side Exit Cat Standard on most models, the side exit cat is a 4-1 under-bonnet system, with a single pipe exiting the side of the engine bay. The catalytic convertor is integral with the silencer. Competition Exhaust (except SV) A basic 4-1 system as used by the Roadsport race series. In this type of system the four 'primary' pipes are of equal length. This means that each exhaust pulse from the four cylinders enters the single pipe of the silencer in sequence, for maximum efficiency. The four individual primary pipes exit the side panel, so requires the exit hole to be enlarged. This is not compatible with a catalytic convertor. VHPD Competition Exhaust Developed for the Superlight R and R400 race car, this system is similar to the competition exhaust but of a revised design. The collector is a 4 into 2 into 1 type, specifically designed to optimum engine performance. Silencers are available in 6" and 7" diameter. The collector can be interchanged with one that contains a catalytic convertor. R300/R400/R500 Road Exhaust (except SV) Initially developed for the R500, this 4-1 system uses finely tuned larger bore pipework to produce the best exhaust performance we have available. The silencer is 6" repackable type, with a lightweight titanium casing. The collector can be interchanged with one that contains a catalytic convertor. R300/R400/R500 'Quiet' Exhaust Based on the road system (above) the 'Quiet' exhaust uses a short collector to make room for a much longer, 7" repackable silencer. This helps reduce static and drive-by noise which can be important on some track days. The increased silencer enables this system to be used with the SV as well as the standard car. The collector can be interchanged with one that contains a catalytic convertor. Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here Edited by - Bozz on 16 Dec 2006 18:08:42
  24. Rich As Is said on your previous thread: adding a 4-2-1 exhaust (CC in my case w/o CAT) made a noticeable difference to the performance and noise that my 1.6SS makes although it hasn't been on the RR since to confirm. I think CC do the 4-2-1 with CAT but it's not cheap ☹️ Bozz McLaren Orange and Black 1.6SS 6 Speed here
