  1. Intersted in The twin cylinders and balance bar. Could I have 1st dibs subject to seeing a photo. Thanks nickpcallen@gmail.com
  2. But the Avon website recomend 8" Despite the 205 nametag the tread is infact 230mm ❗ The 175 is 185mm also 🤔 Nick
  3. Dave Walker tweaks the presure regualtor to up the pressure to four bar (from memory) details on his site. Nick
  4. I understood the steering rack rods to be longer repalcements and therefore not *extended* I think you get some hexagonal shock extenders 🤔 I do find it rather unlikely that these would have the correct threads to be a confusion - but you did ask for suggestions of stupidity Nick
  5. Burt Sorry you are still having problems with this Assuming cylinder head mounting is flat also - obvious I know If the bolts were overtightened / on an uneven surface the flange can lift in the middle simply by the action of the bolts pressing down at the ends -IYSWIM Nick I am obviously lucky that I run without gasgets, although I think I have a dab of goo on the center manifold.
  6. Mr Oldbutquitecleverreally Comma alloy wheel cleaner (from a Caterham goodie bag) is great. It got rid of the golden sheen in moments. The real time saver was the slightly tarnished TechCraft which would have taken ages mechanically and scratched easily. The really tarnished bits high up on the primaries need something more mechanical but trying it can only have helped. I might try a bit of cleaning on the grinder then again with the chemical. Considering my last company sold cleaning chemicals I have been rather slow off the mark 😳 Nick here "abbyandnick"
  7. I have just finished polishing my exhaust, it was looking at little sad. I used a polishing mop(s) bought at a kit car show mounted on a grinder. For the bits that were golden the cloth mops are OK but the pipework that was brown I needed to use some wet and dry and/or a scotch brite mop. (I think that is what they are called) to break though the surface and then finish with the mops. Pleased with the result but its a dirty job and I have I grinder taking up room in the garage and once every couple of years paying £25 for a professional is maybe not a bad choice. Nick

  10. Jorgen Photos sent hope your email is OK with 4*900mb can reduce them in size maybe Nick
  11. Unpriced items really need to be seen ie planes and chissels. If there was serious interest then I could take most of the stuff down to an area meet within a reasonable distance from West london. Nick
  12. and the price for the gearbox is........ 🤔 😬
  13. Sweet talk a school chemistry technician I seem to remember buying a 2-pack product from Halfruads , acid to de-rust then an inhibitor etc. I think I sent the stuff off to get profesionally painted in the end. Nick
  14. Jorgen No mail recieved nickpcallen@gmail.com 😬
  15. Jorgen I bought the car with it installed. The price was low for the spec because a lot of people (in '96) were a little bit scared of aftermarket injection but my mum worked at Weber so I knew I would get good service from them 😬 If I was doing it myself I would still get the injection. Once you have the throttle sensor and the engine speed sensor linked up to the ecu then you have already installed all the tricky bits. You then just need the fuel supply, pressure regulator TBs and return piping and you are away. You can probably offset some of that cost by selling your carbs. One thing I am looking at now is altering the intake - the TBs dont need to be held horizontal like the carbs so I dont need an S-bend manifold. Getting a shorter straighter manifold should allow me to get the TBs a bit closer to the engine for better throttle response and also give a bit more flexibility to intstall an airbox to keep the noise down. Nick
  16. Since 1992 ❗ Weber Alpha ECU and TBs Kent 244 cam big valve not much to say really other than it makes the engine more civilized by being more felxible. I am sure there is a little midrange power in there somewhere but as has been said more than once it is the ignition mappping and part throttle stuff where you get all the advantages, more so than a modern engine. Never suffers from flooding or hesitation I can get over 30mpg on the motorway It is still an old engine and takes the same time to warm up and the same bits fall off. I have a strange anti surge fuel resevoir bolted to the rear bulkhead that you would not need if you simply bought an injection tank with integral pump Nick
  17. Jonathan Does the dye stay in or does it comically re-appear on your clothes 🤔 I am thinking it is the kind of thing that might be loosened by a bit of sweat? Nick
  18. Rob All those numbers seem a little small The official Caterham numbers are 0.22" inlet 0.24" exhaust. I usually test these with the engine "warm" - I think it was Vulcan who suggested this - but could not be too sure. The gap must allow for expantion of the components AND for the film of oil, if the gap is too small then the oil will be scaped off leading to metal to metal contact. If you knew what the values were set at to begin with then you could assume that a closing of the gaps was an indicator of valve seat recession - It is possible to keep it very much in check with additives but I dont know weather that holds true for extended track driving. Nick Nick here "abbyandnick"
  19. I think if it is from a Siera XR4x4 it will If it is Siera cosworth it will not. It is simply down to the diff casing if it is the same shape it will fit... Nick Just remembered have a look at the drive shaft connection - std caterham is splined shaft This may have flanges instead - not an insurmountable problem if the diff is at the right price/ condition
  20. I am running 3mm or 5mm spacers on the rear to clear early Dedeon tube with 13inch wheels. I take your point about missing the extra centralising engagement on the hub. I could do with some spacers that sit snugly on the hub and also provided a lip for the wheel to engage on. Having said that the balance of the wheel appears to be fine so it cant be that much off center. Nick
  21. Just to muddy the water even more I would certainly not be stupid enough to contradict Roger King but I have been running a 244 cam with roller rockers (presumably std ratio) for many years with no problems. Engine was built by Vulcan I did notice that one corner of one rocker had been filed down - just a mm or 2 and assume this was the clearance issue as I only use one gasget Nick
  22. It is pressure not volume that is the issue. The pressure created in the master cylinder acts over a larger area in the caliper pistons - hence more force. However you are correct about fluid movement more fluid will be required for a given caliper movement so the pedal will feel a little softer. Nick
  23. It may not be required to have the engine absolutly wrapped with sound deadening which would of cource have to to include an undertray (if you think where the probe is when they take the sound measurement). Significant reduction may be achieved by deadening the vibration of the metal panels which as with metal kitchen sinks the change in acousitics is by a stick on pannel covering a realatively small area. As to the comment if it has not been done.... James Whiting suggested to me that to deaden the sound of a straight cut gearbox I should use stick on sound deadening material on the transmition tunnel which had worked well. heading to a kit car show would be my first port of call. Nick
  24. Alex if it is the same as it is for bikes (as in scooters that have been grey imported from continent) then a sticker on the glass marking the major speeds 30,50,70 etc would probably get you by - but it may just draw attention to something the tester would probably never look at. Nick
  25. Phil do you really want that oil back in your sump? The finantial value of it is not great and the condition of the oil even less so, also the gasses that have blown the oil out are generated in combustion and are acidic, probably best to have them out the engine rather than re-circulate them Having said that my Xflow setup is a breather from the rocker cover runs to a small mesh filled separator with one exit to the air filter and another to the base of the sump. This does produce quite a tight system but I am considering the simplicity of a plain old catch tank. Nick
