  1. Motor Trader /Echange and Mart tend to have the kind of Breakers / reconditioners section in the back. I would start there to see if there is a place near you. Nick

    'rad' advice !

I am not familiar with the ins and outs of the this engine but, if your water pump was not working efficiently..... The water would be moving slowly around the engine and would absorb more heat before exiting. If the thermostat is positioned as the water comes out of the engine it will register a higer temperature. But the water would spend longer in the radiator cooling more so the temperature would stabalise. Just a thought Nick
  3. Tom If my understanding is correct then the trapdoor should prevent flow of oil away from the pick-up. If the design of the sump (and the circuit being driven) allow an excess of oil to surge forward under hard braking then the new baffle should be placed accross the sump to slow down this flow. Again depending on the sump and driving conditions a long left hander would require a trapdoor on the right to help keep the oil towards the middle of the sump. There is an argument that you should have four - front back -side-side to allow for all eventualities but it is unlikely that you would have the space - time - reason- motivation to do this. option z - get some 155/70 r13 tyres off a fiesta and have fun going slowly Nick
  4. James Assuming that the effect of having venting louvrers is similar to having the pedal box cover removed, then the air having passed through the hot radiator and past a hot engine and picking up some dust from the road is particularily unpleasant and I would not recomend it. But then again as I still have a heater I am obviously a big girls blouse. Nick

    Emerald ECU

I was assured in person by Mr Walker that they now have * someone answering the phone full time* However there is only 4 foot and a brieze block wall between the rolling road and the ofice which does not help. N
  8. Peters experements with constructing a gearbox from Papier Mache have been somewhat less sucessfull. smile.gif
  9. *Wouldn*t Matter* !!!!!! Think of the weight man, think of the weight you will be suggesting a car should include a passenger seat and front numberplate next. teeth.gif Edited by - Doh!Nut on 29 May 2002 15:35:26
  10. Den My High vis hood fits over the FIA bar, the hoops work as intended but the bar does in fact touch the hood. I think the degree of dificulty encountered has a lot to do with the positioning of the poppers, I never had a big problem with the standard bar getting the hood up. People who do may have a bigger problem with an FIA bar. Nick
  11. I was inspecting corrosion in the ballast tanks of a supertanker a few weeks ago, The crew had taken extra special care of their anodes - given them a nice new coat of paint *because they were rusty* he proudly announced! [b)] Nick

    unsprung weight ?

Also worth pointing out that unsprung weight should be viewed with the perspective of the car that it is on. A wheel/tyre/brake combo that may be fine on a porche will not be fine on a seven because it will be a much bigger percentage of the overall weight of the car. the unsprung weight should be a very small percentage of the overall weight.
  13. The winner of the Practical Clasic test on Vinyl restorers was Halfords exterior trim treatment, its cheapish and it works for me. to add to the comment on Washing up liquid, I believe that one of the additives to make it thicker and appear more concentrated is salt, not really recomended Nick
  14. I got some JR filters through Weber (WebCon) in sunbury some time back, I could not get an exact height match with the KN so I just put a small spacer on top of the turret and they fit fine. Nick
  15. Lots of interest for this product - looks like a good idea well executed. All we need now is for Caterham to overprice it. Still they will probably sell loads anyway. [:%]
  16. Andy Assuming that it is off a 4:1 manifold for x-flow then I believe that they all had a *pipe* diameter of 2.25 inches but some (mine) has a 4inch diameter silencer I think that they also came in 5inch silencer, and maybe other sizes. Nick
  17. Aves, as the aforementioned competition, vis a vis hi-jacking the *for sale* thread and the etiquete therof appears to have unearthed more silencers than buyers, I think that puts me a rather good position. Nick biggrin.gif
  18. What diameter are the silencers please. Nick
  19. I would definately agree with the recomendation to get someone to do it who had the propper kit, I got all my suspention blasted and re-painted (enammeled) and it was well woth the 50 pounds or what ever it cost for the rear suspention. For the diff I used a wire brush in an electric drill, one that is shaped like a paintbrush rather than a disc. This gets between the webbings. I then laquered it with an aerosol from Halfrauds. it appears to be holding up well, it is not polished - just clean. Nick

    Brake balance

Thanks I have just printed out a sheaf of stuff from the archive which I will digest offline. I will have a go at the stand on the pedal and look for it loosing pressure, I have a sneaking suspition this may be it. Does anyone know weather there is a replacement life for braided type hoses as mine are 5 years old at least. Nick

    Brake balance

There is some thing wrong with my braking system over and above what has been mentioned regarding flaws in the design of the system, feels like air in the system despite repeated bleeding and greenstuff pads all round, As I have had a master cylinder fail before (5mph - still scarry) I would like to remove the calipers and master clyinder and have them tested on a bench to confirm they work ok - does any one know who could do this, preferably in the west London area? I know that Quick fit do a brake test service but it would not get me the peace of mind I am looking for. Nick
  22. This certainly looks a serious bit of kit that appears to be doing the job but I have been looking at the version that fits like an sandwich plate by the oil filter. I am sure the heat transfer would be less because of the reduced size but would appear to be a tidier instalation. Has anyone used one of these. Nick
  23. In my experience it is more to do with manouvering on full lock and/or over bumpy surfaces ie manouvering in the unmade parking area.(or multi storey car parks) If you know this is likely it may be possible to move the headlamp mounts inboard if they are of the single fixing point veriety, however I have seen some headlamp mounts that move the lamp further forward to level with the front of the cyle wing rather than the higher middle portion of the wing. Some of these appear to be of the single fixing point veriety but there are also some that have a second fixing point on the front suspention (and therefore cannot be moved inboard - but should clear anyway) Nick
  24. I had an easi bleed thing *explode* in my face, I was leaning over it to find where the air was escaping from. This left me with the dilema of weather to wash the fluid out my eyes or off the paintwork first. The eyes won as I would not have been able to see the paintwork anyway. N
  25. How much for the wheels and tyres ? how much tread is left etc.? Mail or call me on 07887 736 779 Nick
