    Wet set up help

When you get it right it's noticeable that, not only are you more progressive, but you are almost in a straight line when you apply the throttle. Unless you want to practice drifting (and who doesn't - it's fun ) you need to follow the rule Jackie Stewart told Capt. Slow - never put your foot down on the throttle until you know you don't have to take it off again. On the subject of tyre pressures, you may find that more in the rear would mean the tyres can clear the water better. However, I agree that the fronts should be higher to counteract the oversteer. Adding a rear anti-rollbar will only worsen the oversteer unless you stiffen the front one at the same time, which makes it a bit pointless. Regards, Giles
  11. It was a bit nippy! When I mentioned the car to Nick Chan, he guessed it would be you . Had a glorious run out to Snake Pass, over the Pennines and on to the Dales before turning for home. Hope you had a good one despite the cold. Regards, Giles
  12. That explains the Royal Mail beanie - he looked like he was enjoying himself. I wonder if he could persuade his boss that he would be faster on his round if he had a seven fitted with a roof box! Got to be worth a try 😬 Will definitely be back in the area again soon, hopefully before the weather changes. It was nice to be back in God's own county as per my youth Will post before the next blat and hopefully meet up again Regards, Giles
  13. Couldn't be sure which as the sun was in my eyes. Early this morning, on the bends between Miller's Dale and Tideswell.
  14. Hi Trotsky, nice to meet you too Managed to avoid the hay wagon but picked up a couple of caravans Fantastic blat, started at 06:30 this morning and got home at 18:30 this evening. 300 miles of blatting bliss through the Peak District, Pennines and finally the Dales. Regards, Giles
  15. Assuming you haven't done this already, take all the jets etc out and inspect/blow them through to ensure they are debris free. Same with the progression holes and idle adjustment screw. As Elie says, is the Venturi loose? If these don't work can you move the problem by changing or swapping ignition leads/plugs? Is it a misfire or a hesitation? At specific revs or across the full range? Regards, Giles Edited by - Klunk on 4 Sep 2013 09:09:09

    crunching gears

That's good news. Will it select all the gears easily with the engine off and the clutch down?

    crunching gears

It sounds like the clutch stop is correct but to be sure it is not the issue just remove it for the time being. If you're having to rev match to get into second from first I would say there is something up with the synchro. This is definitely not a case of TADTS. As Jonathan says, go on the test drive and make sure he is changing gear briskly and at high revs (i.e. 5k not 2k). Just another thought, you haven't changed gear with the main case lid off at some point have you? Regards, Giles Edited by - Klunk on 29 Aug 2013 20:13:54
  18. *thumbup* Nice spec; plenty of power to get you through the warranty 😬. When you're trying to put your feet through the floor to go quicker, that's the time to upgrade Regards, Giles
  19. Hi Tom . As DJ says, I would steer well clear of tinkering until your warranty is up. Doing head work with the head on the car is a recipe for disaster. The smallest piece of swarf missed is a potentially knackered engine. It's definitely a head off, valves etc out, job. Also if you're not sure what you're doing, it's definitely best left to the those that do. What spec engine do you have? Regards, Giles
  20. Hi Brian , How about buying one ring and comparing it with what's in the box? I was told just to look at the "sharpness" of the teeth. Bit subjective, but worked for me so far . Regards, Giles
  21. Hi Jon, Maplins also sell them. Little bit more expensive but you've got a shop in Bournmouth and they tend to have them in stock. Regards, Giles
  22. Hi Malcolm , I would check the compression to try an figure out what compression ratio you have. My steel x/flow had a CR of ~11.5:1 and I was advised to run it on v-power plus and valve additive. Cheapest additive per tank fill up used to be a Castrol one here . They also do one with an octane booster in case you can't get v-power. Regards, Giles Edited by - Klunk on 10 Aug 2013 09:25:35
  23. I think you need to see exactly what's going on with your oil pressure. The comment from your garage saying that the oil pressure is dropping under load is worrying. I would get a mechanical gauge fitted yesterday. As Colin says, take the sump off and have a look at the pickup. Do you have a foam filter in there? If this is disintegrating that could be blocking the pickup when under load. There's still a chance it's some thing top end related, but a drop in oil pressure is not normally good news. Please don't drive it until you have checked the oil pressure/sump situation out. Regards, Giles
