  1. #47 looks like only the new one is working properly so fingers crossed.
  2. #43 IME the Sigma isn't hard to bleed. Just fill with the radiator vent open. Squeeze a few pipes. Done. Yes, that's exactly what I'd expect if you start the engine with the vent open. Path of least resistance. Did you test your stats?
  3. I never considered the temperature at which my diff ran until I ditched the Titan and fitted the Tracsport. I asked Steve Perks about running temperature and he said it would be about 75c. I've checked it a couple of times after decent road runs, with an infra red pyro, and that's what it was, 75c. Given what's going on there and how much torque and power is transmitted that seems perfectly fine to me
  4. What's the info on the centre one of those switches?
  5. My R400 has the so called R500 dash which has similar switches though black plastic fronts. They are made by EAO and are available from RS and others, along with small tools to dismantle and assemble.
  6. I get that John but there's a chance the fault might not be found with a meter and for £50 or so I'd have thought it would be a much quicker way to eliminate the loom or fix the issue. Wouldn't a 2015 car have the updated loom anyway? As you say though, OOS!
  7. Wouldn't it be easier just to change the sub loom? Is it that costly?
  8. #8 James, I think only the R400/300/500 with the multi push button dash use that MFU, if you mean the board up under the dash (Instrumentation Circuit Board R500/Seven 485, part 39L059A)
  9. Both the Sigma and Duratecs have had different temp stats in at time depending on where the engine is from. As far as I can see the only advantage of running them hot is emissions/economy.
  10. No, I have no idea. I understood that the temp is set in the ECU and is related to whatever stat should be in the car. I was thinking that the sensor was in the rad but of course it isn't so it can't be matter of the fan not coming on until the stat opens. We need someone to confirm how the fan switch temp is set and if it's fixed.
  11. The thermostat shouldn't affect the temperature at which the fan comes in unless it's coming on immediately as the stat opens and the hot water gets to the sensor.
  12. I'm not sure there's much good news there and I can't imagine how examining broken components of that nature would lead to their destruction, let alone be likely, unless one wanted it to.
  13. I know it's a different engine but my Duratec, with an 82 stat behaves somewhat similar. It fairly quickly warms up to 82ish (you can see on the gauge when the stat first opens) and will run around there in traffic. It doesn't get much above 82 because the fan soon cuts in. I've never seen it over 85 or so. As soon as you give it some beans the temperature falls to maybe 75. It will do this a few times but after maybe 20 miles it doesn't drop much below 80 though there's always a few deg drop after first opening it up after steady spell. My points are that the drop on opening the throttle is normal but not as much as you're seeing. I'm puzzled why your fan doesn't come on till 100 with an 82 stat. It should come on much earlier. The cowl on the back of my rad has several holes cover by rubber flaps that only open at speed but still impede airflow I would guess. Do you have the same and are they all in place? I know some Duratecs are 82 stat and some 90 or so. Are you sure your sigma is meant to have an 82 in it?
  14. When did you buy the car? From whom? The thing is many C7 radiators are prone to leaking at some point, could be it was leaking and your seller dropped something in for a temporary fix whilst the car was sold?
  15. "......this failure could well be induced by over torquing that bolt, dampers necking out on the bracket etc." Could be, but those things are easily within 'reasonably foreseeable misuse' I would think and could have been allowed for during development?

  17. "It sounds as if CC are not aware of the problem, which is surprising?" Not at all surprising to me. They're rarely aware of the problems the cars have. At least that's what they say. "......but they should have some integrity and make an attempt to contact purchasers, they must surely still have names and addresses and it doesn't cost much to write and send an "advisory" letter......" There's a good chance that the cars have changed hands but there must be ways to do that. At least advise the Club who could get the attention of many.
  18. 3.9 will give lower revs for a given speed over 4.2, other things equal.
  19. #29 I wonder what Caterham will be putting on their ew 420r's when all the stock is gone... I think they'll kick the can down the road for a while by buying up the Avon stock (possibly already done a deal which is one reason prices are going up) and then fit Toyos.
  20. CC: "what problem?" "Well, we've heard anecdotally about this but have no real evidence" "Having looked we now say that we have always been recommending changing these at 2 years, x000 miles. We are sure." "We're disappointed customers haven't just bought more of the dodgy bit from us and replaced them every year..."
  21. "A race car may well be too low. With your weight in the car, you want at least 70m for safe road use. Stiffer springs help to maintain this in high speed compressions." I think that might give you few difficulties with bridges......
  22. #12 you've possibly already got a sintered plate diff. It will last OK though at 15k I'd be regularly checking the preload, if not planning a full service. You presumably are OK with the noise or have one of the rare not too noisy ones.
  23. If you have carbon plates ir won't make much difference but might give you an indication of how worn it is. Sintered plates won't wear so much but what does come off the plates might do more damage. Changing the oil isn't going to make the LSD last much longer in either case.
  24. #6 why didn't you just get 2mm thick washers?!
  25. I fitted the CC ones and they worked fine. The video was out of date then...... 2 years ago
