  1. Hi David me again. Just had another thought, does it touch even when the collector section is not attached. If the no2 primary is not going all the way in it may well be being pushed back. Not likely but worth a look. S7MAD
  2. Hi David, Just had a look at mine. There is 3-4 mm clearance on mine. As suggested do check the mounting, mine did fail and sagged. Try rocking the engine and see if you get a knocking as the exhaust taps on the bolt. New engine mounts have a strengthener on them so it is a known problem. The weld that goes is the one where the bracket is welded to the flange at the engine end. Also check that you have the correct bolt and washer combination on the single engine mount bolt and the two mount to chassis bolts as any miss match here will be critical. If all is ok with the mount, bolts and washers just pack washers under the engine mount to rubber bobbin bolt. S7MAD
  3. Hi BB Just been on the web for 'Yuasa Professional' but no matches found. More info would be appreciated as this is a good price for a 7 battery. S7MAD
  4. My standard 1998 SLR has always had a 'high' tickover. At least 1,500 when cold and 1,200 hot. Yours sound normal to me. Hope this helps, if you need any more comparison info just ask. S7MAD

    Tyres

They are 15's. Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. S7MAD

    Tyres

Just to help Phill it is one of the first CSR200s. Someone must know if there are alternative tyres for the standard wheels on these, so if you can help I would be appreciative as I was the one that said here was the place to ask. Please don't let me look any more stupid than I am. S7MAD
  7. Caterham used to sell a bolt on bracket and may still do it. It has a welded in threaded boss so you just bolt it on through the holes on the chassis. My SLR has this system. S7MAD

    Leaking Tyre?

I also have experienced this with a number of ACB10s. I thought it was the rim but on changing tyres I found that it was the tyre and not the rim. They seem to bleed air through the rubber. No leak on immersion or with a soapy spray, but would leak 3psi in a few days. I just keep topping them up. S7MAD
  9. I have a wireless bike speedo that I have not yet fitted as I found the distance the signal would be maintained was very short even with direct sight. My second idea was to put the sender on the prop shaft ande calibrate accordingly but I never got round to it. S7MAD

    Dented Sump S3

When I eventually holed my xflow sump I replaced it with an ally one from James Whiting. It gave more ground clearance than the steel one. Perhaps they still do them? The ford sump was much harder to destroy than my dry sump on the K. One Ford sump and two K's to date. S7MAD
  11. I have found a number of 'rub' points in my hose system so I always wrap the hose with a split piece of old hose in the vulnerable areas. I also tiewrap hoses for support where there are long unsupported sectons. I have done the same with some fuel and oil pipes as well just to be safe. S7MAD ps the Caterham standard hoses are realy poor quality these days compared to my originals from 1998. My new ones cracked around the hose clips in less than a year. If you can afford it go for silcone. Edited by - MADMALC on 2 Dec 2008 16:57:49
  12. Sounds too light to me as well, the weighbridge could be miss reading at the lower end of its scale, or someone has stolen the diff! S7MAD
  13. Worth checking your engine mounts for cracking and the rubber bits to check that they have not been deformed. My first 'hit' pushed the rubber bit out of the housing so the engine sat at an angle. The second did the welding on the nearside engine bracket, interestingly the new one had additional webbing to prevent the same happening again. Clever how the pump gets the oil out befor it drops through the hole isn't it!!!!! I have jacked mine up now and the handling is fine, different but fine. S7MAD

  16. I used to use remoulds on my 1968 Mini Cooper. I chose the Goodyear G800 pattern and then selected the ones with the most moulding spikes left sticking out of the tread pattern. Very effective, with some pots to prove it. Are remoulds still around? These were only fitted once on the grass so as not to lose any of the bobbles. Must get some serious weight over the back wheels and it might be worth raising the ride height. Not the ideal car for the sport but you should have fun. Watch the top performers for some education! 17. My new supersprint X flow rated by Caterham at 135bhp showed 143bhp back in the early 90's. It would pass with ease 135bhp supersported 1.4 K's. S7MAD
  18. Personally I would give it a bit longer. Why not ask for your engine builders opinion so you do not run into a problem if you have to take it back for any reason. S7MAD
  19. Check that the engine mounting bracket is not failing, particularly at the weld nearest the block. My SLR did the same and low and behold the replacement bracket had a strengthening flange so it is a known weak point. S7MAD
  20. I agree with Dave, why not put a temp. sender (there is a place for one and you can use the water temp. sender as it is the same thread) in the bottom of the dry sump housing and wire it via a switch to the water temp guage. This way you will know how hot the oil realy is and may be you will save some money and some weight. S7MAD
  21. Do your springs sit in a threaded sleeve with two lage rings? These are adjustable platforms. If they do you take the weight off the spring by jacking the body and wind the seating ring up or down having previously unlocked it from the other ring. S7MAD
  22. My car came with long nuts and the caps would not fit. Caterham later provided the correct nuts foc. They are open ended. In order to use the car I cut a set down to fit under the caps. They looked bad but no one could see. S7MAD
  23. Hi all thanks for the info. Andy it is one track control arm end with very slight vertical movement, no loss of horizontal movement so not a do it now job. Will leave it till winter. S7MAD
  24. Does anyone know who can refurb a caterham rack? Seems a lot of money to pay for a new one if only one inner ball joint has play. S7MAD
  25. Cheers Stu, Your understanding is the same as mine. S7MAD
