  1. Please check the engine mounting brackets very carefully, they are prone to fail on the welds. I would replace the rubber mountings as a matter of course and remove the mounting brackets at the same time for inspection. S7MAD Edited by - MADMALC on 12 Oct 2009 18:29:49
  2. Cheers for the information, much appreciated. S7MAD
  3. I have a standard 1998 Superlight R. It passed the SVA but is always marginal at MOT, as it was at SVA, and needs to be very very hot to pass. Questions are: 1/ Can I buy another standard ecu, eg a standard 1.4 as sold by Caterham and use it just for the few minutes on the machine to pass the test with ease? 2/ Can my style of ecu be reprogrammed and if so by whom? I am looking for a cheap solution, is there one? Or must I be resigned to nearly setting my car on fire to pass the MOT every year. S7MAD

    Broken front ARB

I know of one that failed as well.
  5. Hi Nick Not at home till Thursday but will look it up in my Haynes manual then and report back if no one else comes back to you. S7MAD
  6. When I had mine I also worked back from fully stiff. I used a very soft setting for the front and a stiffer one for the rear. My reasoning being that the rear had a big lump of weight to control, ie the axle and the front did not. S7MAD
  7. I have a few of these spare, they are 1.55v silver and still in date. £1 each including postage. S7MAD
  8. Mine is 3.5ins centre of ball to centre of ball and is mounted below the diff. The length is adjustable so you can make sure it does not foul the wheel, chassis etc.. S7MAD
  9. The best wat to stay cool in a 7? Wear shades *smokin* *smokin* S7MAD
  10. MY SLR clutch has always been very very heavy. On my car there is a small plate covering the slot where the arm goes through which stops the arm moving any further. S7MAD
  11. Will hold it close to my heart in eager anticipation 🥰 S7MAD Edited by - MADMALC on 12 Aug 2009 12:52:38

  14. And remember once you have a base level keep topping up with a small amount until it blows the same ammount of oil back into the catch tank. Then you know it is at the optimum level. S7MAD
  15. Autoaid for me as well. It is an 'insurance' policy so you pay up front and then recover from the insurance company. For multi car and includes me and spous it is the cheapest. Never had to claim as yet but they do have a 24hr number to ring and they will send someone too you. Does not cover Europe just mainland UK. S7MAD
  16. The non Triumph lower swivle is a spherical bearing and has no dust seal so is open to the elements. Hope this helps. S7MAD

    Rims + Tyres

The ACB10 tyre is a close fit on the inside and on mine does just take the paint off the arm when under flex. I am not with the car at the moment so I can not look at the metric size that is on the tyre wall. I think it is 245/40. Perhaps someone can help with the correct size and thus a comparison with your proposed tyre could be made. I think you will be ok. S7MAD
  18. I think I have one from a mini. Is it any use? S7MAD
  19. Not convinced that my SLR fuel is cut off on the over run. Do it? or don't it? Look forward to the answer from those that wat know these things. S7MAD

    Engine Flush

I have a Magnatron unit attached to my filter housing on my SLR which has a seriously large powerful magnet in it and I have never seen any bits of anything stuck to it. Conversly my Rover Mini Italian Job has the standard magnetic sump plug and this looks like a Xmas tree everytime I change the oil. The bits are from the gears as they are in the same oil that the engine uses. S7MAD
  21. Try 'hob bright', the stuff you use on glass cooker hobs. It is very good on lots of surfaces. You probably have some in the kitchen already, but ask if you can borrow it first. Try it on an out of the way bit of paint first, better safe then sorry. S7MAD
  22. If you do decide to live with an oil leak find out where it is coming from so you can check the levels regularly. Particularly gear box and diff. Plus always wipe the area clean after a run. This stops the underside from getting blathered and it is easier to keep an eye on the leak and indeed spot new ones. S7MAD
  23. Are you sorted? Could help with fitting, included in the price. Lots of love S7MAD
