  3. I changed all mine with rubber from Caterham. The replacements rubber hoses were of significantly inferior quality to the original rubber hoses and started to crack in less than a year, not happy. I think the most cost effective course of action is to use silicone, and this is what I will be doing. The difference in quality is staggering, I think the originals, now over ten years old are better than the replacements after two years. Your choice, but if you have the funds go for silicone. S7MAD
  4. I am looking at the ScanGauge which reqires the car to have an OBD2 or OBD II port, but I do not know if the socket I have is compatible. Any help would be appreciated. The bit of kit is here http://www.autocaress.com/acatalog/Scan_Gauge_trip_computer_gauage.html Cheers in advance. S7MAD Edited by - madmalc on 6 Jun 2009 20:06:33
  5. Both were destroyed so new both times. I have used sealant but the last time it did not seal first time so had to drop the sump and do it again. I will try the cut down gasket next time. I have now increased my ride height to try and save it happening again. S7MAD
  6. Just as a note to the above, the gold scavenge pump will suck oil quicker than it can fall out of a largish hole in the sump pan. I have destroyed 2 pans and driven over 50 miles without loosing a drop. As soon as I swithed the engine off it all fell out on the drive. Do check both the rubber part of the mounts as well as the metal engine mount welds. I have had both fail after grounding. Good luck with the repair. S7MAD
  7. Go for the crotch strap as well. This stops the buckle from riding up into a dangerous position. I personally would not be without the extra strap. I would suggest that the 3 point is more likely to maintain the correct position on the torso than a 4 point without the crotch strap. S7MAD
  8. I have done this set up and found it to be very effective. As a cheap alternative to a 'propper job' I can commend it to the house. Remenber some are less well off than others and thus will accept less than perfection as a consequence. S7MAD
  9. Mick It should be with you now. Regards Mad Malc S7MAD
  10. I have a spread sheet to calculate rpm/diff ratio/gear ratio/tyre/mph. It may be of use as you can do 'what ifs' quickly. Blatmail me your email and I will send it. S7MAD
  11. My Superlight R has the removable, bolted on wheel carrier. Run your finger along the lower tube to feel if it has the bosses welded into the tube. The bolt head is of the very slim variety, much like the ones used on the FIA bar that go up above the shocker mounts. S7MAD
  12. This one does not seem to have the holes for the three vertical warning ligts between the speedo and rev counter. Hope this helps. S7MAD
  13. That is 18psi 'cold', which could turn out to be over 20 when hot. S7MAD
  14. Hi P Sorry no one has the answer for you. We are in Filey so my Haynes collection is not available for me to look at. The good news is Caterham will be open in the morning and I am sure they will have the answer. See you both soon. S7MAD
  15. Not noticed any difference to the handling myself. It will go a bit faster though. S7MAD
  16. It helps to get the front or if possible all the car as high up as you can. This makes access for cleaning the face and re sealing easier. Ramps are safer than axle stands. DO NOT JUST USE A JACK. S7MAD
  17. Anything up to and including 'R' registration is visual. 'S' registrations need the cat and will be tested for emmissions. (I understand if you can prove the engine is older you could get away with visual but we need more expert comment on this) My SLR was SVA'D with a cat and passed the test. Needs to be very very hot. S7MAD
  18. I replaced mine after 8 years as a precautionary measure and found that the replacement hoses are very inferior to my originals. They are thinner and more flexible with vertually no webbing, a bit of a rip off in my opinion. The new ones started to crack in less than a year. Caterham said they would look at them and replace if the thought they were faulty. As it would mean taking the lot off again and not having the car on the road I did not bother. S7MAD
  19. Hi T Your bad luck seems never to end, I will buy you a pint a week on Wednesday to make you feel better. May be worth taking the cam cover off to see what the valves are doing on that pot. Compare their movement with the others to see if one is stuck open. A call to your engine builder on monday for your next move. Really sorry to hear this and believe it or not it delayed me going to sleep last night as I could not get it out of my head. Let me know how you get on and if you need to get the engine out quickly give me a shout for an extra pair of hands. S7MAD
  20. Dave Payment received today Many thanks Malcolm S7MAD

  22. This manual is N0 962 in the Autobooks range and covers the years 1978-81 for Marina 1300,1700, also 440 & 575 van, plus pick-up. The sections on the rear axle and rear braking system may be of use. £5.00 including post and packing or £3.00 if you can collect from Yeadon or Filey. I also go to the Pennine and the North & East Yorks meetings. S7MAD
  23. If it is the plastic rims that have gone white try some sewing machine oil on a piece of rag. It is not permanant but lasts a few months and is cheap and easy to do. I use this method on my rocker switches as well. S7MAD
