  1. I,ve been using the new Toyo R1R 195/50/15 and 205/50/15. Have now done 3k on them. Did have 888's before but got fed up with how quickly they wore out. The R1R has the same grip as the 888's on the road ( don't know about track use as my car is only road use) plus it grips from cold. The big gain is in the wet, they are awesome. I drove through France early this year in dreadful rain plus standing water etc and was able to cruise on the autoroute at 75-80 no probs, no way could I have done that on 888's. They also wear far better, a wear rating of 140 compared to 100 on the 888,s and have 6.5mm tread compared to 5mm on 888,s. A set cost me £360 incl valves balance and vat. Basically very pleased and will not be going back to 13" rims again.
  2. Hi guys, we were on our way to Loton Park for the final MSA hillclimb of the year. Hope you both had a good day at the seaside with icecreams Phil & Sue S7SVN
  3. Hi Ian, YHM regarding an Emerald Phil
  4. The steering column UJ is also known to fail leading to a stiff and heavy feel as if the power steering has failed. Ford in their wisdom made the column and UJ all one unit on PS models so if the UJ has gone its a complete column assembly. Had to replace one on my daugthers KA!
  5. I put 15" R1R's on this spring, did have 13" with 888's. The outcome is superb, dry grip is the same as the 888's but in the wet they are unbelievable. I drove 400mls through France in pouring rain and was able to cruise along at 75-80 on the autoroute and that was with standing water, no way could I have done that with 888's. have now done 3k mls on them and the rears have only lost 0.5mm, these also come with 6.5mm new compared to 5mm with 888's - great tyre
  6. Yep, our 9th visit in the 7. One of many visits to Leclerc(boring bit), some great quality of tarmac made up for it plus numerous boxes of 5litre rose 😬 S7SVN Phil & Sue Edited by - prs on 12 Jul 2010 12:44:57

    Toyo Proxes RIR

Alan, thought my comments were positive in particular the fact that I've sold my 13" MB wheels with R888's in favour of 15" with R1R's
  8. As you look at the headlights its the truncated triangular section on the lefthand side of the light, from about 7 o'clock to 9 o'clock. I just use black fablon and have done so on my previous 8 trips in the 7

    Toyo Proxes RIR

Just changed from 13" R888 to 15" R1R. Amazing tyres, you get 6.5mm tread compared to 5mm with 888's and a wear rating of 140 compared to 100 for the 888. I've got 195/50/15 and 205/50/15. Used them om the Welsh chippy run and grip wise they work from cold and compared to 888 I would say they are about 95% as good. Not as yet had the opportunity but they are supposed to be brilliant in the wet, unlike 888's which have a warning on the stickers about usage in the wet these have nothing. Use my car for touring a lot ie, 8 trips to France so far and got fed up with the lack of mileage with the 888's it will be interesting to see what these are like. Put it this way I'm that impressed I've sold my MB rims/Toyo R888's! What the difference would be like on track can't comment as I don't track my car. Price wise I got 4 fitted balanced new stubby valves for £365 all in. A pity they don't do them in 13".
  10. Been on pistonheads for a while as well
  11. Exactly the same setup as BigDan and it seems to work well. Hope the tyres are ok BTW. Phil
  12. Sounds like you may have a burr on the shank of the bolt somewhere which is stopping it from releasing. Assume you have undone the bottom so that the shock is hanging free.
  13. You could also consider the new Toyo R1R or Yokohama Parada spec 2. I ran T1r's for a while and found them perfectly ok with 200BHP good grip in the dry and no probs in the wet, road use only though
  14. You should be using mineral oil for running in not semi synthetic otherwise the rings will struggle to bed in.
  15. The best price for toyo 888 at the moment is on ebay, in the region of £15 cheaper than camskill
  16. Assume your fitting 13". For 1 just simply remove a tiny amount with a file or small grinder. For 2 as you say reverse the droplink. For 3 either weld, buy another or place in the bin
  17. In 3rd gear it sometimes reminds me of 'the dukes of hazard'
  18. These are used but still in good condition. They are Jenvey 42mmx100mm carbon fibre air horns and will fit DTH TB's as fitted to a K series. Email me for pics showing them fitted and separate. New these are £250. Now £95 to include P&P Edited by - prs on 11 Feb 2010 22:04:57 Edited by - prs on 17 Feb 2010 16:03:12
  19. Ed, mine is a Magneton which is the original Caterham version. The solenoid is positioned on the bottom although all the connections are the same so it would fit ok. It also has a full heat reflective wrap/cloth which covers the entire motor.
  20. I've got a spare one in GWO. £50 plus P&P Phil 01544 230124
  21. Nice to meet up with you today Rob, very pleased with the rims absolutely mint not a single mark . Look forward to seeing you on the fish n chip run in April Phil
