  1. get a local workshop to chop the 16mm tube off and replace it with a 28mm?
  2. They are good aren't they ..had a leaking clutch slave so took the engine out last sunday...3hrs...back in today....5hrs...have done it quicker but putting it back in always seems to provide something that needs encouragement
  3. Having sold my car the new owner declined buying the new front discs and opted to stick with the Alcon floaters.. So, I have a pair of brand new original porsche front discs for a GT3 mk2...onwards. They are still in the boxes....I think they are worth £400 as the cheapest place I've found them is £578 new (inc Vat and shipping) Any current owners of the best 2 cars in the world...7's and GT3's fancy them before I stick them on Pistonheads... 4. Paul, Interesting..I'll look to give Neil a call over the coming weeks...even though i have a new project in the garage!..adding a flatshift to the seven is something i would ike to do... Gary
  5. Thanks Guys....she's a great car...it's a shame to sell her but 1500 miles in the last 18 months and with Porsche wanting £1300 just to re-new the warranty which I now can't have because of the dampers and brakes...it's left me a bit disillusioned with porsche's attitude to the slightly used customer. I've now acquired a 968 CS in Maritime blue which I am going to turn into a hardened track car and stop worrying about depreciation, warranty's and annual services!! This car is absolutely immaculate and has seen 2 wet track days and 3 trips to the Ring when the weather put me off taking the 7..(I know..pussy!)...she'll be a good buy for someone. Gary
  6. A great car and a spare set of wheels/tyres thrown in if bought via Blatchat... here
  7. Cheers Arn,...I spoke to Neil about a quick shift last year...good bloke, so that might be a good idea... gary
  8. Ahhhh! ......... Wise words from a man that's had many rebuilds...and a very understanding wife for when the bill comes in! ....look at them as more knowledge and an upgrade....I wonder If I can distrurb SWMBO from 'Come Dine with Me' on my latest project to gain more knowledge!
  9. Hi Paul, Sorry i missed your call and did not recognise the number so i decided not to call it back I get a number of calls from recruitment agencies and customers of an evening that i prefer not to take...anyway, I was busy buying another car! I will be on and off my mobile all day tommorrow...if you send me a text with a time to catch you on I'm happy to call you... Regards Gary
  10. Paul, Thanks for the re-assurance....did you have any problems with the shifting in your box?
  11. Lads, thanks for your comments.... Gary, The box did about 2.5k up till last year...and then I had it fully serviced by Quaife with the instruction to Len..if in doubt...change it! It has now done 3 track days and some road miles (600 miles)..I'm assuming it should be in pretty good nick. Set up?? what did you do wrong?..it's a bloody gearbox!!!! Arnie, Thanks for that info....I'll get the gear stick out this weekend and have a look..I don't remember noticing the springs as I re-fitted the lever but I'll have another look...Can they be adjusted or require adjustement according to the set up....? When i spoke to Len yesterday he mentioned the set up was important, but I still don't see how that can be altered??? Anyway, If I want it looked at I've got to take it to CTS now that Quaife are not doing them. What are they like to deal with???
  12. I've had this box for a few years now...I always thought one of the big benefits of a seq box was the ease at which you could bang down 2 gears without having to use the clutch inbetween gears or find gates under pressure...maybe I need to look at my style of changing and look to make sure the lever is returning properly aswell as being aggressive with the forward movements. I think I already am...but hey ho... The engine is coming out to sort a clutch hydraulic leak so whilst it was out I was considering letting Gearboxman have a look at it...but in my eyes it's only just been serviced...
  13. Hi John, When you drop more than one gear do you physically pull the lever back to catch the next gear or allow the lever to bounce back only to then bang it forward again? Gary
  14. It was only a few weeks back I was saying how reliable my early Quaife Seq box had been and I'd had no problems. In July I did a track day and suffered a couple of false neutrals when braking hard, going down 2 gears into 2nd. Did a track day at Oulton a couple of weeks back and found the problem on a regular basis going into the chicane after the shell hair pin... I've since spoken to Len who says undo the bolts that hold the gearstick in place and let the gearstick find it's own settled position and try that I know there has been some discussion about the reliability of the latest G60 box but I was wondering if any other users of the early box have had similar problems and if it's an inherant fault in the style of box or is there anything I can do? I should add the box was serviced by Quaife only 12 months ago and since then it has done around 500 miles (and only 3 track days) I'm also quite mechanicly sympathetic often using the clutch both up and down from habit... Cheers Gary
  15. I put it on the rear wings above the carbon wing protectors, where the seat belts come out of the cockpit onto the side panels, where the doors rest on the bonnet, side intrusion bar, leading edge of lower wishbones..I think thats it!
  16. Mike, Thats how I refill mine (using the breather)...the refill is 1.9l if I remember rightly so I usually leave the dregs of 2 litre bottles and it seems to be ok... Gary
  17. The wiper control unit has 2 live feeds if i remember rightly..one continues to feed so it can park...I wonder if one of yours is not connected...
  18. Jez, 2.8 deg camber!...I take it you are running radials.. Gary
  19. comparison on bhp figures across different dyno's is pointless as there is no reference...certainly as Aves says...induction is really important and don't underestimate the need for a matched exhaust manifold too. without swindon porting my std manifold to match their head, adding TB's and fitting the matched exhaust manifold/BTB exhaust, was I able to go from 210 to 240. Alot of money for 30bhp and a better torque figure! Just as important was the way she delivered the power though...much nicer to drive once I was off carbs.
  20. To save me taking out my existing hose from my AP (uprated) caliper...does anyone know what the thread is for the hose on my caliper? Cheers gary
  21. Well thats made me think... I have the AP uprated calipers for the front of my car and it never occured to me that i could save so much unsprung weight just by swopping the calipers However, I would be interested to hear from anyone who has gone from the AP uprated calipers to something lighter and could give an honest appraisal of the performance. My AP's are great at stopping (fitted with either Ferodo Ds3000 or PF pads) but saving that weight and maintaining excellent braking performance would be highly desirable 🥰
  22. My old engine had a steel crank (farndon) with internal trigger wheel. When I had it refreshed last year I asked Bob Jones if he could pep it up a bit...say, get over 250bhp. Unfortunately he was not keen to do it because of my crank. He was more than happy with the current state of tune (it had proven to be very reliable) but he did not recommend pushing it further with the internal trigger wheel. However if I wanted more, he wanted a lighter crank with an external trigger wheel.
