  1. Well...The 968 did have an overheating problem (split hose during a race which I spotted too late) which cooked the HG...this time the car has run perfectly...competed with her last year with no problems..and since then she has sat idle. The sprinter had a new HG because I had the head refurbed due to the 'black death' fuel leaking around the injectors.
  2. I should have added that both vehicles have had new HG's within the last 18 months..
  3. I have a Porsche 968CS and a merc sprinter which I used last year for towing to race events' Due to personal circumstances I've been unable to do much this year and the the sprinter has only been used about 4 times and the 968 hasn't turned a wheel since last October. I've turned the 968 engine over every couple of weeks without fuel/ignition to circulate the oil and move the belts. Both vehicles were used earlier this week and both now have HG failure symptoms..is that just bad luck? or can anything be done to lessen the likleyhood of this happening again? I'm gutted as I'm skint at the moment! i know it's best to keep vehicles being used by the 968 is not road legal... ☹️
  4. Thanks for all the comments... Fan is a 9" version...the stat is new and has been tested...wiring would cope with a higher draw.... I have to say that the fan could fit better..it rises up on the brackets by about 5mm...something for me to look at this weekend. Ill check the sensor..I have 2 in the thermo housing as one signals the Ecu and the other the stack.. I used to run the system without the stat but during the colder months but she struggles to get up to temp (70-80)...the 2 steves told me to fit a 72 deg stat... Fan comes on at about 90 deg.. Thanks Gary
  5. rads about 6 years old...not been used much...and the coolant has been changed quite regular due the extensive rebuild programme of the engines she's been attached too! Current engine was brand new.... how big is the fan you've got on yours...
  6. yesterday our for a blat and my Vx temp was running at about 80 on the move... (tuned Vx with radtec triple core rad installed). I got caught in some traffic for about 10 mins which saw my temp move to about 105...I was going to pull over and let her cool but for fortunately the blockage eased and within a mile she was back in the 80's again. I could hear my fan running...the whole set up has only done 1200 mile since the full rebuild...I have the 72 deg stat in...and the system has been well bled ( having owned the car for sometime I know what she can be like!). the face of the rad is pretty clean and obviously no tape! I believe with a high ambient temp, the fan was not powerful enough...I take it I really need to improve this as 105 is just too high and asking for trouble... When I got home, in the shaded area of the garage, the fan maintained the car at 91 deg... Any other comments?...apart from agreeing I need to look at getting a more powerful fan...
  7. why wouldnt there be? your sump is the lowest point so anything that had not been picked up by the scavenge pump or oil that had drained down via the block oilways is bound to be down there...have I missed understood the question?
  8. Hi I suffered with the seals leaking on the std CC integrated dry sump system...I swopped to a std bellhousing and then used a hydraulic slave cylinder (from Superclutch) for which you can buy some spacers from burton power to bring the CRB upto the face of the cluch cover. I've had this for 6 years...it leaked once which required the usual engine out Obviously I had to revert to a pace dry sump tank at the time. I have not seen the external hydraulic actuation system but if it works, that must be the ideal solution in my eyes. However, I have no problem with recommending the system I have too and both require a change of bellhousing. Interms of making your current system more reliable; I'm not sure thats been achieved by anyone on here. certainly when I looked at making the change I thoroughly researched the issue and ended up going the way I did.
  9. Garth, Steve Greenald. Race Engine Calibration. 07774 773824 Just incase you don't get answer on the landline...
  10. A couple of years ago I had a new engine built by Bob Jones as part of my full re-build. Bob Mapped the engine on his bench dyno and I have to say, in the car, it felt quite good to me..however, it wasn't without a few niggly issues... Having not used the car much it didn't overly worry me that she was tricky to start from warm, smelt very rich at tick over and never liked idling from cold...plus had appalling fuel consumption...(now then, that may sound odd, but I was getting around 11 mpg on a gentle run to daveK's for tea and biscuits!) I was looking to get the map checked and Alan (at DTA) suggested Steve Greenald. A new one on me and a long way from home! Finally got the car down to him this week for the map to be checked. Whilst I was slightly scepticle when I collected the car, (I've not met a tuner yet that has not given me more of of this and that as I've parted with my dosh)...however, he said I would be impressed and I have to say... I am! Been out for a drive this morning and I am well pleased. Part thottle response is much better and she rev's more crisply, more cleanly too. Starting the car was also a revelation this morning 🥰 He doesn't do a power run prior to his work..and I did not go there for more power..however, the engine seems to have gained a bit of poke too He was highly complimentary of the engine (Vx) that Bob has built, but now it has the map it deserves. Great guys, great service. The best I've been too (and I've been to a few over the years!) Well recommended.
  11. Motul 300V 10-40w...as opie oil man said..it doesnt get much better..
  12. Tiger Seal as per Myles..good for me over a number of years...
  13. Rob, This and the bikes....are you emigrating?....
  14. I've always bought Image wheels...just google them...Tipton in West Mids...
  15. Hi Gordon, I can second what Paul said but Swindon told me the gains were due to benefits in the flowing both head and inlet manifold. I have since seen further improvements going to Jenveys own casting which almost gives the direct to head effect but that meant a new bonnet to raise the hole cut out for the filter. If you do get the inlet manifold flowed ask them to weld some webbing support near the bottom hole castings (see archive) They notoriously crack here after time (I think Roger Swift had 2 go on him and Alex Wong had similar issues). Mine went just before I did my rebuild.
  16. The guys above are right..but..having done more laps than you can shake a stick at the Ring...over 15 years in a seven and on a bike (if you think the seven is scary try going down the fox hole on a m/bike or scraping your knee around some of the corners as you drop down the hill towards the adenau bridge ...I always like to have over specc'd equipment in tyres and stuff like brake pads as it just opens the window of your performance levels. It's always nice to have plenty in reserve
  17. Castrol super response will be more than adequate as a brake fluid (srf is ott IMHO), pads are personal but I've always liked ferodo dns3000 for track work. I've not run toyos but those pressures look a bit low especially for the ring unless it's a really warm day. Have a good time
  18. Looks like they're getting some good business from the shropshire lads at the moment ...went in and ordered a couple of rads for the Porsche last week...excellent advice and service
  19. Poss an earth cable you dont need? If you've connected the chassis to the block and then the bellhousing to the battery..I'm not sure you need anything else, as long as you've not got an earth point that has no connection to the block...unless i'm missing something...
  20. I've just bought a Powervamp for my 968...I did take some time to read the web site and they do state there is a slight difference in the battery specs...have a read...good service too
  21. I used a mastic and then added 2 rivets to make sure it did not budge (one on each side at the bottom of the chassis rail).
  22. Good luck and nice to hear from you
  23. Rob If you get it you'll have to bring it around for a viewing next to the 968CS i've just got...
