    I've done this with mine using a single scale ( set of scales ?? ). Used a block of wood the same thickness as the scales, jacked up the front, wood under one wheel, scales under the other, then swapped over. Repeat at the rear.

    I've been given a 15 year old Airchamber. When new, it was used for a few months to house a big Healy, then put away. I'm told it's complete, with all the poles and blower.I don't need it and can't be bothered to put the thing up just to check it. I have no other information about it. Probably good if you have a cold,damp garage. It's quiet heavy, but folded up in the original bag. Collection only or Gonads. I don't want anything for it, but would want the new owner to give a donation to Race against Dementia. BM me if you're interested. Clive

    Google "Bodpave" and you'll get plenty of info. I'd say they're okay as a temporary answer, but if used regularly, the wheel tracks will just become a muddy mess, particularly in the winter . Usually, strip of the turf, lay the paviours on a sharpe sand or gravel bed, then infill with fine topsoil and seed. Don't relay the turf over them. Better to lay them on some geo-fabric ( Terram ), infill with stone or gravel to slow the mud coming through.
  13. Perhaps the original problem was stone chip damage. Loads thrown up by the front wheels into this area.

  15. Paul J. Probably the original springs are too hard, so making them harder still had little effect. I'll hunt out the spring rates for my car to give you some comparison. ( Sorry for the hijack )
  16. If you want to play with the settings, for each corner just note the direction of turn and the number of clicks to the stop, then you can always return to the original settings. You'll feel the range difference just bouncing the car in the garage. My dampers have a huge range from very soft to rock hard, so it's a question of playing until you get a setting you like. Obviously, each side will need to be the same setting, but I tend to keep the front a click or two lighter ( very light Bec ) Clive
  17. Just my thoughts and why I think this is a can of worms. Imagine that you are a member of the MT and a Director of L7C. You have a report from MIRA saying that the Current FIA bar is stronger than the standard CC one, and will perform better in a roll over situation. They probably won't give an opinion or recommendation. Would you change the current guidelines? How would you then feel if there was an accident involving one of us and the failure of a standard bar? Would you then be able to explain that decision to a court? Say one's 50% stronger than the other? 10%? Will that be okay? Perhaps they will both perform identically, but I doubt that. Maybe the new standard bar is stronger than the FIA one. As Ltd company would the Directors be placing themselves in a legally compromising position? Remember they are just volunteers. Perhaps TDs aren't covered by H & S legislation because we're not " at work", so I don't know the full implications? As once as a ruling is made on the evidence, that will be the new standard we'll all have to abide by. Will my old single diagonal FIA bar ( with no sticker ) be acceptable. Clive
  18. Try Y C Plastics in South Wales. Their ABS ones are good and value for money. They'll need some trimming and bending ( using a heat gun ) to get the fit right. Clive
  19. Depending on what tests the MT have asked for, we could open up further problems. If back to back test simulations show that the current FIA bar ( double crossbar ) performs better than the CC standard, then I expect the MT will want to spec that bar for track days. It's possible to test performance at failure, but who can say what forces are at play during a rollover incident. One bar might outperform the other in difference aspects. What about all the older bars, with single diagonal and little provenance? I guess we'll just have to wait and see Clive
  20. Ian, you're quiet right. Check it at home ( essential for road use too ) and expect to get chucked off if non compliant.
  21. Orangepeel - That sounds an un-usual set up. A de-dion with drum brakes? Mine is a 1988 Live Axle car car with the Ital back axle. Originally the rear had drum brakes, but I've had it converted to discs. Night and day difference in brake performance / balance. Ask if you want details. Clive.
  22. I'll be very interested in the test results, but we may have opened a can of worms here. My car has a tall FIA bar, but no sticker. I've no real idea of it's provenance or even age. Then there's the fixings to consider. Has it been put together correctly? Who's qualified to say? The car's 30 years old. There are several types of roll over bars used. Do we test them all? We may find that only full cages are acceptable. After all, they are the only one's tested on track on a fairly regular basis. Then there's the Club's insurers who must have a view on this? What standards do they require? What is the basic rational for track days anyway? Does the car have to have an MOT, most race cars don't? There's no scrutineering done ( but they will do a noise check ! ) Could I knock up a car in my garage and take it on track, so long as it has a good exhaust system and it looks okay from a distance? The issue of head / bar height surly must be the individuals responsibility. It's a simple check and one that could save your life. There's also the issue of belts, clothing, helmets, TYRES ( how often do you see track day tyres worn through to the wire, yet 2 laps ago were probably doing 100 MPH plus ! ) I don't know the answers, only what's acceptable to me, my risk in my car. It's just the others on track I worry about, which is why I prefer L7C trackdays. Clive
