TomB
What is the collectives latest thoughts on good LED brake light strips to mount on a S3 roll bar? Ive had a look in the archives, but some of the post recommending particular units are a couple of years old now. Car Builder Solutions have 48 LED unit here and also this one here Is bigger / more LED always better, or can they be too big? Am I best getting the Caterham loom to connect it in, or as my car is older and doesnt have multiplug wiring connections (lots of spade connectors), it not required? Whilst I have the car tank and boot floor out, I think its probably worth me fitting one.
michaeljclark
Being an SV owner ❗, I have the 48 LED model (bigger is best ) from CBS wired in via the CC Loom, but I can't comment on how to do it without the loom Mike
makingff
When I went in there a few weeks ago, they recommended this one here which I bought. Looks great quality and I fitted with some velcro an a couple of cable ties (just in case!). Will be wiring up mine using the sub-loom once I get 5 minutes... TomB
I saw that one, but couldn't work out why it is was three times the price of the 28 or 48 LED unit. Any idea?
Stationary M25 Traveller
48 LED is the one for a Seven *thumbup*
MartinWoodham
this one here £10.49 and nice and bright. Buy it from a race parts stockist and it'll set you back £30 😳 You'll need a bracket
MartinWoodham
I spliced mine into the back of the rear light cluster connecting block, offside, and ran the wire up the roll bar diagonal. Cover the wire with insulating tape to match your roll bar and Bob's your uncle.
AndrewGP
Pretty much what I did too, with the 48 LED job you linked to from CBS. I used black mastic from B&Q to fix it to the rollbar and it's as good as gold. It's also very bright which gives me good peace of mind http://thumbsnap.com/tCrHBOoV Edited due to link not working Edited by - grenpayne on 14 Feb 2012 14:01:
weeman
I've just fitted this one to our SV and I think it looks a treat (but then I would wouldn't I). It's very bright and because it's sits beneath the rollover bar it can be seen from behind with the half hood fitted Be lucky!! Martin
richy
48 LED from CBS with CC's high-level brake light sub-loom
rgrigsby
I've got one of the other ones from S-V-C that sits on the roll bar however it looks like it's a LOT more expensive now than it was when I bought it. It does have a curved back so fits nicely though.
Dignity
Quoting richy: 48 LED from CBS with CC's high-level brake light sub-loom Ditto Less than £30 all in. Sub loom makes the job very easy. I used black mastic to stick it to the roll bar with 2 cable ties until the mastic set.
Stu_I
48-LED light from CBS with the Caterham Subloom. I have my build instructions if you want them, just BM me. Stu
Racing Snake
I find a strip of LED brake lights not as good as a block of LED's
Doug
I have one of these on my car. It's fixed to the roll bar using cable ties but the body of the light is carefully drilled on the back so that you cannot see the ties. It's very effective and looks like it was meant to be, if not the cheapest option.

TomB
Im going to try RTV silicone with cable ties while it sets and splice the bare cables into the power and earth cable for the brake light. Im almost certain to make a pigs ear of it and wire it into the indicators! 😳

johnv
I went for one in the middle (slightly modified from 7speed) so that it wouldn't be affected by the half hood http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t75/johnv_photos/IMG_0056.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t75/johnv_photos/IMG_0055.jpg

TomB
Of course! That makes life easier, I can use the existing earth for the rear lights
StuB
Hi TomB, Have just ordered the same HLBL from CBS, how did you get on with your splicing or did you buy the sub loom from CC? Stu
