  1. If any body would like some information ring me at Quaife 01732 741144 and I can fill you in on all the ratios and spec. Just for information it has nothing at all in common with a type nine other than it is the same size (almost) and has the Ford bolt pattern, input and output shaft spines. The mainshaft and layshaft are 10mm further apart allowing much bigger and stronger bearings and gears with no big hole in the top of the casing weakening the box. We currently have them in a Nissan 350Z Italian Race series, Ginetta G50 and a lot of MK1 Mk2 Escort rally cars; I have a customer in Barbados who is 1.5 seconds a mile faster with the box in his MK1. Just a note I had the first go in any car fitted with the box when we fitted it to my Seven last year. It was so good Mike Quaife swapped me his Elise for the Seven which you should be soon seeing in the press on road test. Edited by - Len Unwin on 26 Apr 2008 20:25:37

Gary and I have swopped our Caterham with Mike Quaife for his Elise see http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/239354.htm Not sure how too do the HERE thing it says it is easy but what is url?
  3. Not wishing to advertise but the quaife box has no chain and in forward gear has no power loss other than the drag of the oil.
  4. Not sure if I should post this but as Mike Quaife now pays my wages I feel I should remind you that if you do want any information you can ring me at work at Quaife. 0173274144 Also if you look at the web site there are lots of technical drawings that might help any one unsure on how things work. This is not meant as an advert by I must say that despite only working there for a month I am very impressed with my new company there are some very clever guys there. The way the reverse box for bike engine cars work is just genius.
  5. CageyH If you want any advice on the Quaife ATB ring and ask for me and I may also be able to get a discount.

  7. This is actually quite common I always find that you have to pack out with a washer or two.
  8. Ric, check the spigot bearing in the flywheel they can dry out and cause the first motion shaft to carry on turning and hence give the impression the clutch is still engaged. Very easy job to get them out with the right tool absolute b*****r without!
  9. Paul if you come to my house I have one of Arnies boxes you can take away to see if is would be of any use. I could also ask you about my elbow!
  10. Almost certainly sold and with a queue.

  13. I have, in the past, made up a flat board with boot carpet stuck to it which attaches to the rear shock turrets with Velcro and goes from the two turrets across the back of the boot the top chassis rail and boot floor so you can use the space behind it and the rear bulk head to keep small stuff. Unless you know the car you don’t know of the secret compartment it also stops the tool kit from rattling around and damaging the boot skin.
  14. KAP as the car pulls OK and the compressions are all ok my best guess is the mixture screw broken, which will have little or no affect above 1200 rpm. Good hunting.

  16. KAP make sure you get back and tell us what it was.
  17. First guess tight inlet tappet at worse leaking inlet valve. You could also check if the choke has spun in the carb, which is common. Hard to explain on an e mail but if you look down the carb inlets check that the bar going across matches the other carb. It could also be that the mixture screw has broken off at the end blocking the idle tract very common on spanish built webers, once again remove two idle screws one from the offending cylindr and any other to compare, count how may turns it takes to unscrew if you are worried about getting them balanced. The smoke on start up and overrun is oil getting down the valve stems and nothing to worry about. My advice would be take off the head any way it is an easy job always lots of advice on here, lap the valves and put mini oil stem seals on the valves if the oil smoke worries you. I always found that with modern fuels and crossflow heads sealing the valves will always give the engine a useful boost anyway. I suspect from your posting you may be not to confident in doing the work but I promise lots of advice and I am sure you will get help from the local area if you do get in to trouble. 18. Agree with Dave but it is probably the ignition switch itself. quite a common problem.
  19. I have just been asked by luxburger to refurbish his car before sale. But I suggested that he might offer the car for sale ‘as is’ at a lower price. Geoff has a right hand drive 2003 VVC R300, which has been raced in the German series? It needs: - a respray, but will come with new wings and it has a cage fitted. The engine was new at the beginning of this year and comes with an Apollo, suspension has big brakes and Freestyle adjustable dampers. It would make a cracking track day car as it is but with a little effort and with the money saved could be made road legal with a SVA, have it sprayed to your preferred colour and hence look as new with a current registration. If anybody is interested in the car before we start work please ring me 01892 540828 / 07946 634021 as Geoff is away for a couple of weeks. I do have some pictures of the car here and it is due to come over at the time of the Autosport show.
  20. Has anybody tried an electric pump? This would give a controlled constant temp, may save a bit of power and would also allow for a much simpler fan belt route.

    215 Vauxhall

I have now sold the car.
  22. Just to add my two penny worth. As suggested before change tyres to a radial and get the suspension set up to allow from the switch from crossply. You may well have the wrong rear De dion ears on. I would suggest going to someone who knows Sevens and most of those guys will happily answer questions as well. One problem with a Seven is that it is just so good that a badly set up car is still better than most other things, so if you start with the car set up correctly for your requirements you have a proper base to start from and don't end up driving a car that is compromised and you don’t know. It also may have another problem like coil binding or such that an expert will spot straight away. Of course I would recommend Gary at Freestyle 01322 749054 but I am sure the site will give you many more ‘recommendations’ depending where about in the country you are. I agree with every body else almost certainly you have no thermostat as the Vauxhalls use to have insufficient radiator capacity when the car was driven hard for any amount of time. You can just experiment and blank a bit of the rad to help. Edited by - Len Unwin on 20 Oct 2006 13:15:34
  23. It might just be worth while giving Freestyle a ring.01322 866002 07801 749054. Gary has done a lot of work on live axle and has a matched AVO rose joint damper and spring combination that works very well. The dampers would also be the same price as from avo' direct. It also means it comes with free advice on set up.

    215 Vauxhall

Not sure if it was built as a HPC. The 215 upgrade was done at the factory when I was Service Manager there and it has from memory 13 inch wheels but I don’t know if it had the 16 inch originally Tom, the owner, is a fantastic guy an old BBC radio producer who I love talking to. He asked me if I would help in selling the car I was half tempted myself but I think my wife may just notice another toy in the garage.
