  1. I was never happy with the cooling system on my x-flow until I changed to a sealed system. With the open system I found it best to jack the car up as high as possible at the front, fill the heater from the hose that attaches to the inlet manifold, fill the rad from the top hose, plumb back together and fill the system from the filler cap. Squeeze hoses as you go. Once its full it will inevitably chuck out some into the expansion tank on your first run out to full temp !! But it doesn't suck it back on cooling, hence the need to keep topping up.
  2. But is it possible to equate an angle to a dimension. Without any special equipment it would seem easier to set a dimension measured at the front and rear of the rim. Now it would depend exactly where you measured but does anyone have any data ? Is it as simple as a bit of trigonometry based on the position measured on the rim ?? Numpty question is it 1 degree per side, ie measured relative to the car centreline ??
  3. Wheels are 16" car is road use. Is parallel best then ??
  4. After a long time rebuilding the seven to widetrack suspension, eventual got round to the MOT at the weekend. Passed OK but toe-in seemed excessive and I couldn't remember the settings from the manual. So from the manual it should be 0deg 20' +/- 10', but what is this as a dimension at the rear of the rim/front of the rim ?? Is that how you set it ?? Car tracks ok, doesn't pull to oneside just seemed a lot of toe in. Garage laser fandangled alignment system was broken, but used manual method of an adjustable bar to measure distance between rear of rim and front of rim (something you could do at home). He said it was pretty reliable and its the way they did it before laser alignment thingy whotsit's were invented. Also to change is it easier to slid the boot off the rack and adj steering rack arm length than split the track rod from the steering arm ?? Its all a bit new to me this suspension set-up not had to mess with it before
  5. 5/8th on mine or 16mm if your metric (not much in it). Just replaced my old rubber hoses with 16mm silicon. Heater outlets measure about 15mm dia as does the maifold and pump outlets. Now what could you do with 2m of 1/2inch hose ????
  6. Same thing happened to me 93 Super Sprint, decided it was time for an upgrade so got it fixed by Bruce at Arch (great bloke). New suspension picks and widetrack *smile*Drivers side had a crack around 50% of the braze, passenger side showed early sign of crack. Put it down to fatigue and wheel catching the wing stay at max suspension travel. Skin will need peeling back and harness unclipping from cross tubes. Think its common to flares,
  7. The following parts should do the job, plus hose and a large diameter T. Tank from a Rover 214 I think Manufacturer Part No Description Rover EAP8713 Expansion Tank Rover GRC1184 Cap Ford 6814635 Thermostat outlet Ford ??? Gasket Used to be a link somewhere to a site but it was in French

    New Rad and Fan

Assembled my new fan and ali rad togethter at the weekend, offered it up on to its mounts and it fouls the anti-roll bar This rebuild/upgrade isn't going too well ☹️ The rad and fan are new as is the front suspension, upgrade to widetrack. Car is 1991 chassis and the rad is mounted on 4 rubber mounts. Has there been a change in the mounts to sit the rad further forward ??
  10. Steve - Wishbones are from Arch Castrol - Bush 32mm - wishbone gap 35mm(ish) = 3mm or 1.5per side of bush Fitting Nitron dampers Looks like washers then - suppose that if the bush is 35mm long then the damper could slide on the bush which doesn't seem right, the washers will hold the damper eye central in the wishbone. Thanks All
  11. Help please am I doing something wrong? I am assembling my new widetrack suspension and I come to the bottom damper mount and insert a 32mm long bush in the damper, thats OK. But when I offer this up to the wishbone there is a gap at either side of the bush surely this is not right, am I missing some washers or have I got the wrong bush. Gap in wishbone is 35mm.
  12. In a hurry chaning the distributor cap over, side exit 43D type lucas, forgot to note which was number 1 cylinder 🙆🏻 I know firing is 1243 and rotor goes anti clock wise, so looking end on to the cap which is No 1 ?? Upper Left ?? Is it a case of timing marks algined rotor arm at No1 ?? Thanks in advance
  13. Failing all that, you could put the x/flow back for maximum noise Dinitrol
  14. Managed to crack chassis (fatigue) so whilst at Arch Bruce modified the chassis to latest upper wishbone pick up. Spring rates anybody I seen anything from 140lb to 200lb rear and 200lb to 300lb fronts Road use. Do I assume correctly that nitrons pick up with the 'through' tube bush on the De Dion rather than the 'underslung' bush .
  15. De Dion rear. Any suggestions on spring rates ??
