  1. So having ascertained that I have an imperial, chassis, I am intrigued as to what the differences are between the two.
  2. Thanks Jonathan, Fortunately the car is up on stands, so I will have a crawl underneath!
  3. As it says above, how do I tell, and what are the differences great? I have a '99 S3
  4. Guy, I believe it is an H8, non FIA, according to Soft Bits who made my half hood.
  5. The boot cover on my current car has been misused by previous owners and has several tears where the front popper attaches to the chassis. This is causing problems especially with the half and full hood. Does anyone have a suitable replacement in good nick please?
  6. I know there is a member on Blatchat ( I won't mention his name in case he gets inundated, but I am sure he will respond if he wishes to) who had a spring loaded toggle switch which would either give a short flash, or a longer flash and then cancel itself. Can't remember the exact details, but it was a brilliant bit of kit.
  7. And on the other end of the spectrum, my recently acquired '99 K series - only 16k miles. And I have probably had more problems to solve over the last few months than I care to mention - almost all of which can be blamed on lack of use! In my previous car I averaged about 5k a year - trying to get back there!
  8. #7 Can't find the s/s ones on the Sevens and Classics website - no search facility? Are they open or capped nuts and how much?
  9. Never did it on mine and no problems over 15 years and 55k miles
  10. Maybe not quite as secure as taking it with you (as long as you don't forget it when leaving the cafe!), is to chain it inside the boot to the roll bar. I use an ordinary cycle lock on the basis that an opportunist is unlikely to be carrying bolt cutters.
  11. Many thanks John - I will study and learn
  12. Nigel, thanks, That makes more sense to me. the socket and plug are, as you say, quite poor quality
  13. If only I had room in the garage ( and a few more brownie points....) What a fantastic opportunity to buy a fun 7
  14. My trunnions were still going strong after 55k miles when I sold the car. As Nigel says, fill them with EP80 or 90 once a year before the MoT and all should be well. I used to do 5k miles a year. I actually used to enjoy stripping down the trunnion and felt seals - it was quite comforting to look closely at all the gubbings and know that it was all working well.
  15. By 'eck! I thought I had asked a simple question I have no idea about 'piggy backs', 'earth switched; or 'live switched' I have a wiring diagram and a multimeter. The only thing I have done recently is change the light bulbs. Apart from that, everything has worked just fine since I bought the car a year ago, so I don't thing there is a fundamental wiring error. I was just a bit curious, but having changed the fuse, and everything is working again, I am a very happy chappy
  16. Went out on a short blat yesterday and on return home plugged in the CTEC trickle charger via the cigarette lighter as usual, but nothing happened. Turned out that the 25amp fuse that houses the charger and the horn had blown. Fuse replaced and all OK. Just curious as to what might have caused the fuse to blow.
  17. Very satisfying when you finally work it through and sort it though, isn't it?
  18. I used a Fancy Plates 3/4 size in the end - regular spacing and normal lettering. It does look a heck of a lot better on the car and, unless you place it alongside a full sized plate, it doesn't particularly stand out as small.
  19. Hi Dan, That is the way I am going. I am pretty sure they are the same as the plates on my former car.
  20. I want to change my front plate for something smaller. I have done this in the past but cannot remember the size. Fancy Plates are offering one at 390mm x 84mm which seems to be about right (I know they are not strictly legal, but they look so much better!) Anyone using any other dimensions and, if so, where from?
  21. The current bulbs are not very good and are of differing brightness. What is the current thinking on the best H4 bulbs for ordinary road use? There seems to be a lot of choice online.
