  1. 1999 K. The front n/s wheel has a rhythmic squeak which is clearly speed related. I have checked for disc run out with a simple tell tale and all seems well. The wheel bearing seems sound. The hub isn't overheating and braking is smooth and straight. I can hear the noise up to about 15-20mph where the engine drowns it and I suspect it goes away anyway. The wheel spins freely when jacked up, although not quite so freely as the O/s wheel. I am guessing that the problem lies with the brake calliper not retracting fully ( but why that would produce a rhythmic rather than a steady noise I don't know). Any thoughts as to how to approach it, or should I just live with it for now and see if it develops or just goes away?
  2. There must be lots of old Xflow rads lurking in the back of garages, either where the owner has upgraded or perhaps the core of the rad has been damaged. Maybe a shout in the Wanted section of BC might help. It might help to post a pic as well as there may have been different bleed screws over the years.
  3. Is the tip metal or plastic? It seems strange that the metal would break without any external force.
  4. I had to use the wipers for the first time in anger this morning and noticed that the near side blade was slightly bent where it pivots at the joint with the arm. It was also catching both the bottom and top of the screen (S3) at the extremes of the sweep. On measuring both arms, the drivers side was 17.5cm and the passenger side was 18.5cm. Cutting down the longer one to 17.5 seems to have done the trick and it is no longer hitting the frame. Which got me to wondering how long a replacement Caterham blade is, and whether it is normal to have to cut them down?
  5. Stephen, I have the same problem! I revved it hard in neutral, although I caught it before it got too high, but it just raised the question in my mind. Why will the limiter not work when the car is in neutral? I fitted an after market limiter in my old XFlow, and that certainly worked in neutral. #9 Paul, there is no shift light. #7 Thanks John, but I am not going down that route - way beyond my pay grade! Thanks for all,the comments.
  6. #3 Not knowingly, but I missed a gear today which prompted the question!! Do we know if the limit on the 1.4 and the 1.8 are the same? Thanks for the advice chaps
  7. 1999 1.8 K series I seem to remember reading somewhere that the K series installation includes a built in rev limiter. Is that correct?

  12. March to December 2021. All in vgc. Will post at cost or collect from Taunton area
  13. #10 I think I broke the world record for getting a fizzing battery out of the car!
  14. Hi Jonathan The topping up was minimal, hardly worth bothering about. I am just about to lay it up for a couple of months, so will do all the battery checks as part of the revival! Meanwhile I will read up on battery operation to try to understand the technicalities of dropping a steel bolt into it! Many thanks.
  15. Couldn't have done it if I tried! Used a couple of wooden BBQ skewers in the end and got lucky - all fired up ok Thanks
  16. Unelievably, while checking the battery levels a steel bolt from the retaining strap dropped into the battery. The cell is fizzing slightly and I have removed the battery into the open. What is the best thing to do? I cant see the bolt so is it safe to poke around with a screwdriver? Any other advice Thanks Took a chance and poked around and managed to retrieve it without any obvious damage apart from the bolt now looking a bit dull. Hopefully I haven't damaged the battery
  17. Depending where you are, you cannot beat Curd Bros in Tunbridge Wells. Old school engineers who do a brilliant refurbishment job.
  18. My 1999 K has 17k on the clock. Last year the oil pick up was partially blocked by disintegrating foam leading to a dramatic loss in pressure. Fortunately I got away with it and when Classics and Sevens took it in, they simply removed the foam permanently. The car is used for road use only, no track work.
  19. Steve, Why not try for an AX block? Bit of a rare beast these days, but much stronger if you can get one.
  20. Saturday morning in the stony car park next to Crocombe gate. Hope your sump wasn't trashed!
  21. As I need to top up the antifreeze, I intend to install a bleeding T Piece first. I know it needs to go at the highest point in the circuit, but where have folks normally installed the T Piece as being the highest point?
  22. Thanks Jonathan, Any info would be helpful please
