  1. I had the same problem; oil pressure dropped suddenly. Got the car back to Sevens and Classics who fixed it under warranty. They simply dispensed with the foam and as far as I know fitted an ordinary gasket. A few thousand miles later and all is OK
  2. The last work done was 2 years ago when Classic and Sevens removed the sump to clear the old foam baffle. Nothing on the water rail or under the water pump/engine that I can see. i will have a closer look tomorrow
  3. Sorry Jonathon, I didn’t fully answer your question. Over the last couple of years with not much mileage, say 1000 road miles, this is probably the second or third time I have topped it up with a significant amount.
  4. Jonathon, I topped it up last about 3 weeks and 150 miles ago when I took it for its MoT. Dan, can’t see anything on the cap but I will keep an eye open. At least I know now that it is not normal - why would it be?
  5. 1999. K series. It seems to dropping more quickly than I would have expected. I put in well over 1/2 pint today after 150 miles fairly ordinary driving. Checked the hose tightness ( all silicone), nothing showing in the oil, and no obvious leaks or damp patches. Should I be looking elsewhere, or is this normal?
  6. I missed the C&SC edition for January with the Seven spread on the cover. Does anyone have one which they would like to sell on? Cost plus postage plus a contribution to PCR awaits. Thanks
  7. I guess that is what I will have to do until it all eases up. Not much good for random passengers ( occasionally someone takes the risk😀)
  8. Hi Jonathan, I haven’t quite finished the installation yet ( seats to go back in) but not sure what you are looking for in the photographs? It is very hard to get the installation wrong! The lap belts tighten as you suggest - pulling the tail away from the centre buckle. That was one reason that I have changed them - the old Caterham belts tightened from the floor up, which never works well.
  9. Have just bought a pair of Sabelt 4 point harnesses ( Demon Tweeks - Caterham specific) to replace my 23 year old Caterham belts (road use only) The belts seem to be incredibly difficult to adjust, requiring a huge amount of force to tighten them, and lots of difficulty in releasing the shoulder straps. The lap belts are virtually impossible to tighten once I am in the car, and I find that I have to tighten them, get in the car to test them and keep on hopping in and out until they fit. I am hoping that they loosen with use; I wonder if anyone has met the same problem and if there is an easy fix to solve the problem?
  10. Gary K Thanks but I really want the round buckle type. Thanks Paul, I will have a look at the TRS belts although I only need four point. Are they 3" belts? I am sure I have had Sabelt in previous cars which tightened upwards, so no problem with belts being stuck down the side of the seat.
  11. The seat belts on my ‘99 car seem to have gone a bit hard, and are difficult to adjust, especially once in the car. I am looking at the Sabelt Caterham specific belts being offered by Demon Tweeks and wondered if anyone has any experience of them, especially the ease of adjustment. This is for road use only.

    Rust!

I just wonder where the previous owner(s) lived - was it somewhere close to the sea, and was it kept outdoors? Certainly doesn’t look like normal useage.
  13. I have a black and white badge. I am away for a few days but will send you a pic when I get home, to see if it is what you wanted
  14. Not sure I fully understand what has broken or deteriorated but for what it is worth one of my bulb holders had been broken so I fashioned a new one out of an old tin can (baked beans methinks)!
  15. I did the same with my last car. 1600 to 1700, 244 cams and electronic ignition, and a 4:2:1 exhaust, probably 2". It was fast and VERY loud, a real 'bark'! I loved it! I did several track days at Brands Hatch and Castle Combe with no noise problems either on the static test or the drive past reading. I think most of the noise was induction based.
  16. Maybe he drove across to Menorca!

    Abandoned 7?

Any police contacts on BC who can trace the owner?
  18. Staying at the Hamilton hotel in Es Castell when I spotted a grey 7 in the small car park in front of my hotel. Couldn’t get downstairs fast enough to intercept it, but I bet there are not many more, if any, 7’s on the island.
  19. Thanks Jonathan I hadn't thought about the app route. There are plenty online so I will trawl through them, unless anyone has a specific recommendation.
  20. Having recently been done for speeding ( first time ever!) I am getting nervous about the accuracy of my speedo. Unless someone has a simple way of calculating the real speed of the car, can anyone recommend a screen mounted gps unit? Preferably rechargeable. Demon Tweeks do one for about £89 which is wee bit pricey, but if it works well it may save the next fine.
  21. I have the same buzzing problem. It stops if I press the dash between the dials, and sometimes when I just press the dial glass itself, so I am thinking new ring seals might be required
  22. Thanks all, you are really confirming where I think the problem might lie. Time to get it all stripped down and a good clean up and grease. Not this weekend though - lots of family and probably even lots more booze! Have you noticed how much the 'entertainment' budget goes up as the kids get older? Enjoy the weekend one and all.
  23. Basically yes it does Andrew,
