  1. Hi N, Where in North Yorkshire are you? Your local meetings have plenty of help, support and guidance available should you find yourself wanting to weald a spanner or two. I am in Filey and always available for practical and spiritual guidance! The inertia part of the belt can be left attached so do not worry about that. M.
  2. Check to see if your carrier is welded or bolted on. You can clearly see welds or a bolt if you look carefully. Most cars with no spare wheel appear to have the boss/hole so you can put the bolt on carrier on. You have to take out the boot floor and move the petrol tank to get the bolts in so it is a bit time consuming. Obviously removing a bolt on is a reversal. The number plate light also needs reengineering.

Some have a self tapper at the rear lower corner on both sides.
  4. Over filling the brake master reservoir makes leakage more likely during spirited driving. Take some fluid out so the level is well below the top of the filler and it will help. On the vibration issue it is worth checking that the steering column is not touching or nearly touching any part of the engine. Things can be a little tight around the UJ at the lower end of the shaft. The rack can be loosened and rotated to adjust the route the shaft takes.
  5. No, not necessarily. Ital/Marina axles have smaller PCD than Ford ones. What axle do you have? then a quick measure and you will know which wheel you need. 'English' is a type of Ford axle.
  6. Those who sell tyres will tell you it is a 'nono' most of us who have to pay for them and the law say differently. A club sprint championship winner ran radial on one axle and xply on the other at a track day and reported no issues. The law does NOT like this scenario.

  8. That is the sort of thing you need, well done MB.
  9. Had a good look through my 'paper work' to no avail. The item is called a flame trap and was for the avenger. A call to James Whiting may help.
  10. Hi A, Will be out all day but I will be back with you Monday. M.
  11. My X-flow was a heavy 'smoker' from the engine breather, a common problem I was told. The solution was to fit a breather filter in the line higher than the outlet. The oil would 'condense' on the gauze and drip back down the tube into the engine. There was always some smoke but no oily mist. It was a Chrysler/Roots Avenger part that was recommended at the time. I may still have the part number somewhere, if you would like me to search let me know.
  12. Double post due to wobbly finger, sorry.
  13. My cars interior mirrors were both supplied in 'Ford' bags. I may have the part number, if you would like me to have a rummage please let me know.
  14. Gearbox to engine out of the car is the easiest. A load leveler https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/cll500-load-leveller/ will help when inserting the whole unit. Remember to loosen the filler plug before you get the gearbox back in. Do not forget to bolt the gearbox mounting (the right way round) to the gearbox when it is out of the car. I have always used a funnel with a length of flexible tubing attached to fill the gearbox. When you have finished just push the end of the tube into the funnel to 'seal' it and it will clean and ready for next time. There is always a next time.
  15. Hi Adrian, It looks like Simon has the answer and I trust his knowledge. Out of interest it is in the for sale section here http://www.lotus7.club/forum/sale/spring-sale-wings-hood-catalytic-coverter-plus-lots-more-have-look Kind regards Malcolm.
  16. Hi Adrian, I have the Cat from a K series SLR for sale. It is 4 in, to one out. I do not know if it is suitable but you could mention it during your enquiries. If you need more measurements let me know. Regards Malcolm.
  17. Hi G, The mark on wheel one looks suspiciously like unprotected clamping jaws. A friend has just had the same issue with a local fitter and was advised that it was normal. They claimed that with protection the wheel would not be clamped enough to remove the tyre. My opinion is 'B----cks'. It is just slipshod and lazy. It is best to ask if their equipment will mark the rims and explain that you do not want any damage to any part of the rim prior to fitting. QuickFit Scarborough were asked before they fitted tyres to my Volvo and did a good job. I could see the fitter put protective pads on the clamp. My other tip is to stay and watch. I think the positioning and fit of the weights is another indicator that 'care' was one of the missing elements to the fitters work ethic. Go back and complain quietly and politely ask for your money back. M
  18. Is this cheap enough? http://www.lotus7.club/forum/sale/spring-sale-wings-hood-catalytic-coverter-plus-lots-more-have-look
