  1. Me too. Was going to write more but !!!!!!!!!!
  2. W has a very good point. The gold pump on my SLR was so good that I lost no oil from a large crack in the sump for the 50 miles to home after hitting a cats eye (no animals were hurt in this process). On turning off the engine the oil ran out immediately. If you treat the readings as 'Bananas' then you will get a 'normal' reading for both oil and water temperature and any variations will for most road going situations indicate what is occurring with sufficient accuracy so as to be useful.
  3. That looks OK and how many do it. I used heater hose slit to cover the tube where needed so the metal cable was cushioned. The rubber on the cable is not always in the right place to use.
  4. Hi JK, You say 'PS: I wouldn't do this but there are lots who are happy with it.' An explanation may help others to understand, please can you expand why you see an issue here or am I missing something obvious. It would not be the first time!!!! Cheers kind regards Malcolm.
  5. Hi Tazio, We have a 1992 Rover Mini that has a 'cat' but is on an SU carb. There is a list of anomalies in the MOT testers appendix for this type of vehicle. The Mini is on this list and requires to pass the 'pre cat' emission test. My MOT tester states 'if it has a choke then it is pre cat limits'. Sorry I do not have the location of this appendix to hand but hope this helps a little in understanding the complexities of this legislation.
  6. Is that no fluid from any bleed valves or just none from both/one rear ? If you push the brake pedal with the car in the air do all the wheels lock? Could be the bleed screw not undone enough or blocked.
  7. I never had any issues just leaving it. When you open a bleed valve the fluid will come out OK. May be we are over thinking this one?
  8. As K7 said, see if you can see the Audi part number on the case.
  9. Hi Roger it's Malcolm here, take 'oilyhands' advice, he knows. His advice is free but it is worth a lot.
  10. It may be crank case fumes, My Xflow used to breath 'heavily' and I had a breather pipe from a sealed catch tank leading down and under the car to stop me from choking to death. Just a thought that may help.
  11. Just a small box with an X in on my Surface Windows RT 8.1 if that helps.
  12. Have you tried disconnecting the battery, counting to ten and reconnecting. It's an old 'trick' that sometimes works. Good luck.

    CSR Horn died!

Try a temporary earth wire from the steering column to the battery or a good known earth point. Does the horn now work? This is based on trying to solve this very problem on a csr. It appears that the earth is via the rack mounting to the chassis and then via the steering column. As a temporary fix we attached a very flexible wire to the steering column to earth, (It has to be able to rotate freely from lock to lock) I think this fix is still in operation. If you find your problem please let us know.
  14. Check that the steering column is not touching the engine. If it is close it will leave a tell tale scored ring round the column. To increase clearance release rack and rotate same. Agree that engine mounts need checking and gear box clearances checked.
  15. Hi Darren, I feel for you in this situation. My SLR which cost more than a years salary to me at the time had a gearbox fail at 1 mile. To Caterhams credit they collected the car from Yorkshire and returned it fixed with much apologising. I know it will not help to know that you are not alone in bearing pain inflicted by Caterham but hopefully you will emerge from the other side and finally enjoy what is after all a magnificent piece of equipment. Lots OF Love Malcolm AND Shirley. LOFLMANDS.
  16. I think you mean 1 degree toe in not 10 degrees !!!!!!!!
  17. Just for clarity the mx5 mk4 gearbox is not the one used by caterham, it is from the mk3 range.
  18. Have a look here. http://www.minispares.com/search/classic/washer%20bottle.aspx
  19. You need weight on the suspension. If the wheel is on floor the weight of the car should be enough. You could try a lever to exert force in the same direction if the car is in the air.
  20. You need to go 180 degrees round with the breaker bar so you are pushing down towards the ground.
  21. You really need a breaker bar to avoid damaging ratchet mechanisms. You may also need a longer tube to go over the bar, start with the off side as that is deffo anticlockwise to undo.
  22. When you start the car do you normally 'tickle' the accelerator to try and 'catch' the engine as it fires? This action seems to upset the K. It is best to not touch the accelerator at all until the car is running. Have you tried the ignition on, no start, accelerator slowly to floor and return several times, ignition off? When you restart do not touch the accelerator. Worked for me and a few others, hope it does for you.
