  1. Regarding the clutch stop, it's more a case of preventing overthrow. Peter
  2. Regarding suitability, my lads heavy duty battery on his Tranny went completely flat whilst in storage and was told it had had it. I connected it up to the Optimate, it recovered it and went on to fully charge it. That saved a few £ Peter

    New diff

Good thinking Spiderlane, surely CC should make a statement giving some sort of guaratee that the new transmission benefits from quiet running to some extent or a similar warranty! Peter
  4. Another one for 888s been really pleased with mine the grip is a world away from ZV3s and don't forget club members get discount with Camskill Peter
  5. DJ, Just checked mine as set by CC and there are 13 threads, hope this helps! Peter Edited by - Pete-B on 5 Dec 2010 21:54:48
  6. Thanks Ian you're a star! Peter
  7. Ian, Thanks for the tip mate, I'm not being a scrooge about not buying the Starcom one it's just that I really like to have a go at things myself. My only problem with this is I wouldn't know what a 10k pot linear would look like. I'm going into Maplins tomorrow and looking on their website I see they do a whole long list of these things. In a word, what do I look or ask for( bearing in mind, some of the lads in our store would have a job finding the door without a sign over it) and what sort of cable do I need to make it up? Sorry for all the questions, I can just see educated going or maybe even don't bother
  8. Thanks for that Martyn, it does make sense to make up a seperate short length of extra cable! I must admit I was a bit hesitant in cutting the original cable, I'm not sure what I would find inside, being a numpty, would it be two or more wires? if more I would be stumped. Peter
  9. I'm having a Starcom and peltor headset for Xmas! Now, some time ago I bought a cheapish set of headphones to use when I'm on the treadmill, I plug them into my laptop so I can watch a film or listen to music to take away the boredom and pain. These phones have an inline rotory volume control so I can have the laptop turned right up and then adjust the volume on phones. So I got to thinking, people like Maplins sell these controls for about a fiver so would it work to fit one of these to the Starcom on the cable between the base unit and the headset? I know there's a built in VOX and volume control on the box but if I had something closer to hand so it would be easier to adjust music or phone levels! Thanks for any suggestions and help. Peter
  10. Thanks for that Johnty I think I've got it, maybe, perhaps, could be? Peter
  11. The switch I'm getting (haven't got it yet it's coming from SV Supplies) does have a light on it, -sorry I should have said- so how do I wire that in? sorry for being thick. Peter
  12. I'm fitting my starcom in the car to the back panel between the seats. I intend fitting the DC cable to the back of the cig lighter which is fitted direct to the battery through a fuse then routed under the tunnel cover and through the back panel, the cable itself carries an inline fuse fitted by Starcom. Albeit I'm a complete numpty with electrics this is fairly straight forward so far. But then I would like to fit a rocker switch between the seats and wire it in before bringing the cable back through the panel and into the comm. This is where my problems start, the DC cable as we all know has two wires P + N but there are three spades on the switch? I'm sure this is obvious to most but I did say I'm a dumbo on these things so I would appreciate it if someone could tell me what wire goes where, thanks Peter

    first mot

Check all your lights including fog and brake (it's surprising how many people don't), also check wipers and and make sure water bottle is full and working. If you've got the spare wheel on the back I would remove it, although mine was done up tight, because he could move it a bit he didn't like it although with some arguing he passed it. Also make sure your headlights are tight they tend to give them a good shake to see if the're secure. Good luck Peter
  14. I'm hoping to get a Autocom Logic One comms unit in the near futute. I gather it's battery powered but Im also getting the power lead so it can be wired in, this is where my problems begin. As far as car electrics are concerned I'm a complete numpty so I would appreciate any advice from the knowledgeable ones on this, also, where is the best place to situate it. I suppose it needs to go out of sight but at the same time be within reach. I'm hoping to get it with two wired up Peltor Defenders for driver/passenger comms and a music lead. Thanks for any help. Peter

    speedo problems

These things are unbelievably temperamental, when mine packed up six monthe ago I ordered another from CC and this one didn't work, put the old one back on and it's been worked fine ever since! As far as I can remember I set the gap at about 1.5 mm. I'm also told a tiny bit of muck on one of the contacts can stop them from working. I would suggest taking it off, giving it a clean and experiment with the gap. With the ignition on it;s easy tu check if it's working by spinning the disc and watching to see if the sensor lights up as each castellation passes it. Peter
  16. Or make your own! Short length of sheet metal with two holes in the appropriate place, two nuts spot-welded on one side and a bit of velcro, simple job and costs next to nothing. I made mine two years ago and they've been brilliant, I can change screens by myself in just under eight minutes Peter
  17. Fondelli, Don't know about the TDC question but when I, like others, was having tuning problems with my Sigma before they sorted the mapping out, Brett at CC Midlands replaced my variable timing with fixed version and told me these engines work much better that way. I'm no mechanic so couldn't argue but all I can say is, the car runs a dream and hasn't missed a beat since and that's a year ago now. Peter

    Opie sale

Opie Oils are doing a good discount across their range of products, for example, including club discount, 25% off Redline oils! Peter
  19. Just out of interest what method are you using to drain the old oil ? Peter
  20. No , the one you want has MTL (ie manual transmission lubricant) printed on the bottle, it's a 78W-80 GL4. Peter Edited by - Pete-B on 19 Oct 2010 15:06:40
  21. Ditto from me. Had Road and Race perform their magic on it then filled with Redline heavy shockproof. I think Opie are doing free carriage at the moment plus of course club discount. Peter
  22. Be careful there are two different threads, when I broke the front one on my Sigma trying to prize the grease gun off Dartford sent me one with the wrong thread. In the end Sean took one off another car for me. Peter
  23. Further to my original posting. A while back I ordered some Redline heavy duty shockproof diff oil from Opie Oils and by mistake they sent me 4 x 500ml bottles of Silkolene BOA 80W-90 For gearboxes and final drives. They corrected the order but didn't bother to collect the other stuff and thats a year ago now! It's still sitting in my garage in it's original packing, the price then was £22 less a bit of club discount. If anyone want's to collect this or arrange to have it picked up the're welcome to it ( perhaps a small donation to NTL? ) Peter
  24. Thanks for the offer Nick, I've got a cheap one that I bought from Machine Mart which I used to drain out the diff, I assume it would do for the gearbox? Peter
  25. Allen, I managed to aquire these two bottles of Redline MTL cheap and I've seen posts in the past saying how good this oil is so I thought why not use it? Peter
