  4. I am an expert having spent over 25 years in the painting, metal spraying and shotblasting industry, the last 8 years as workshop manager. A lot of our work was for the MOD so standards were very high with regular checks and inspections. Under no condition would we powdercoat over existing paint work one simple reason being, the paint that is now lifting would have looked OK at some point, so the same thing could happen to rest in which case the new coting will come away with it. The way forward by us would have been to shotblast with medium grit ( bearing in mind we had huge pressure on tap) so I would have expected one of the lads to strip four wheels completly in less than 20 mins. The important thing then was no one should touch those wheels with their bare hands because that would contaminate the surface. They would then go to the paintshop to be sprayed and baked to the customers colour spec. Also if there was any lengthy time gap between shotblasting and painting the wheels would have been kept in a warm and dry area as any damp on the surface will cause future problems. We also guaranteed our work and always told our customers, in very unlikely event of a failure please come back and talk to us and we will resolve it. Our motto was no business can survive and prosper with customers spouting to all and sundry how bad you are.
  5. I have Two,Thule 951 roof mounted bike carriers as new with all fittings and instructions these have been used just the once. I then changed the car for one which came with a fitted tow bar and I'm now able to use the tow bar bike carrier from our motorhome. Amazon have these at £63 pounds each I'll accept £50, (or offer) for the pair if someone wants to pick them up.

The problem is, both batteries only have one pair of posts and those on the original are taken up by the existing cables so how does one connect the two together. Probably a numpty question but thanks for any help.

  18. I do need to sell this car, I promise it is everthing I say it is, does someone want to make me some sort of an offer before I ask CC what they would pay? Edited by - Pete-B on 8 May 2012 10:09:22
  19. Hi Sad but I have to put my baby up for sale. ☹️ The story is, I'm 75 in a few weeks time and SWMBO is not far behind and after much deliberation we've decided to get a new motorhome to spend our final years touring around for our holidays. Unfortunately in order to finance this my beloved car and some other things have got to go. I got the car in 2007 as a kit 125 Sigma. I built it, or should say,I helped my son build it, at that time he'd spent 22 years in the RAF as a highly skilled technician and precision was his password so the car was completed to a high level of finish. Initially I was really pleased with the car but after a while I found it a bit underwhelming and wished I'd had the 150 BHP engine and so decided to take it back to Dartford and have the upgrade, (wow what a difference.) Whilst it was with them I asked to have the diff checked out as I thought it noisy, they said it was really quiet and advised me not to change it. I still wasn't happy so decided to take it out and take it down to Phil at Road and Race. He also thought it was quite good but still stripped it all down reset it to a finer tolerance, replaced all the seals and a new bearing, at a cost of course. A couple of other club members thought it was really quiet for a Sierra diff but I still wasn't happy. So I decided to bite the bullet and have the new BMW diff, prop and drive shafts fitted at CC Midlands, that was a terrific upgrade, a world of difference, CC should have done this years ago. That's the basic car as it stands and I know I'm probably going to get slated by some members for this( but what the heck I'm mid Seventies ) and own up to being a polisher. The car has never seen a wet road, been stored in a heated, carpeted garage with Dehumidifer when not in use and in total done 5200 dry miles from new, never been tracked and only ever been driven by me. This is also what I've added and comes with the car:- The full roof(never used.) SBFS Half roof(never used.) SBFS Draught reducer Leather seats. Heater. Uprated Mintex front pads. Full screen, see pic 1 Aero screen, see pics 2 Momo Q/R steering wheel. Two sets of tyres, nearly new Toyo 888s and original Avon ZV3s also as new. Personal No plate which cost me almost £700, see pic 5 Powervamp battery, and battery immobiliser. Original Banner battery. Starcom Advanced system fitted which is hidden away, there are two fly leads behind the seat for head sets and or helmets. The controls for this are fitted in the dash and include two rotory switches one for voice and one for music etc, there's a on/off rocker switch with warning light and also a fly lead for connecting to MP3 or Ipod for music again see pic 7 With this there are also two Starcom head sets and two helmets worn only by myself, SWMBO and Grandaughter and all very clean see pic 9( I prefer to wear helmet with aeroscreen.) High level brake light. The wings have been treated with liquid rubber underseal and all grot traps have been waxed. The car is taxed and MOTd until the end of August. On top of all this I had a short blat last week and found my second plastic topped rad was leaking it was also out of warranty. I had to bite the bullet again and decided to buy the R400 all ali rad with upgraded fan, this has just been fitted, see pic 8 There are probably other things I've added but not put down This car is as new or better than new with not a mark anywhere, the underside is as it left the factory. One other thing I've just remembered. I used to deal in artwork and became friends with Ray Goldsbrough (probably the best motorsport artist in this country) enter Ray Goldsbrough in google to see his work. Anyhow I commisioned Ray to paint the car just after we built it and before any mods, it cost me £700 so you can imagine what his originals fetch? See pic 10 for this. I'm going to put the car on Pistonheads but I thought here first in case someone is on the lookout. I don't really know what to price this car at. It stands me in at over £24000 not including servicing and all other the incidentals but I realize I'm not going to get that so I thought around £18000 for the whole lot as a complete package was a fair price to also include the painting. OR MAKE ME AN OFFER Forgot to add also indoor cover http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w404/Pete-B7/PICT0174.jpg http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w404/Pete-B7/Bourne35Aug09.jpg http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w404/Pete-B7/Bourne34Aug09.jpghttp://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w404/Pete-B7/PICT0177.jpghttp://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w404/Pete-B7/PICT0168.jpghttp://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w404/Pete-B7/PICT0179.jpghttp://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w404/Pete-B7/PICT0181.jpghttp://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w404/Pete-B7/PICT0166-1.jpghttp://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w404/Pete-B7/PICT0182.jpghttp://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w404/Pete-B7/PICT0184.jpg NOW SOLD Edited by - Pete-B on 2 May 2012 10:23:36 Edited by - Pete-B on 3 May 2012 09:59:51 Edited by - Pete-B on 3 May 2012 14:05:30 Edited by - Pete-B on 11 May 2012 11:25:43 Edited by - Pete-B on 11 May 2012 11:33:03
