Danny, You don't need to start grinding down your rivet gun etc. Just use a very small nut (3 or 4mm, can't quite remember) on the shank of the rivet, and the head will sit in the bottom of the countersunk fitting. Also, remember to pull back once the rivet starts to bite, or you'll send your rivet gun straight into the bodywork when it snaps off! Oz....
  3. What are you doing then Longy? Reading that book you mentioned, while Johns grazing his knuckles! Oz....
  4. Phil, Have you changed the rotor arm? It could be starting to fail. Remember the long push! I'd only buy OEM parts as well. A few years ago I bought a dizzy cap and rotor arm from Elise parts, and they were carp quality! Oz...........
  5. Have to agree, that a high level light is an absolutely necessity. Even more so, if you have the utterly useless clear lenses on the back. And yes, why would you feel the need to turn it off?
  6. Gregs, Just click on his name, and all will be revealed!
  7. Top job I'd say. Looks good, and differs from the crowd. Oz.
  8. I would hope it's just for IVA. Never seen labels on any Caterham dash, and don't wish to. All those pictures look awful imo!
  9. JK. Counterclockwise!!! No offence to our American friends, but that really isn't Cricket old chap! Oz....

    Harnesses

If Daves not, then I would be. Are they they 4 point quick release red buckle type?
  11. Bit of a difficult angle to tell, but I'm pretty sure you don't have the later type strengthened De Dion tube, so you might want to keep a close eye on those damper mountings as well. Oz...........
  12. Grubbster, Do you have access to a large vice? You need tension and shock, and it should go. Press it in a vice, tight as you can without using a lever on the vice handle, or you'll break the vice! Then with a large lump hammer or copper mallet, whack the vice jaw, and repeat tension as it starts to move. You also need someone else to hold the tube, as you don't want to drop it, once the bush starts to shift. oz

    tyres

Another thumbs up for R1R's. Much grippier than T1R's, but you won't get them in 14" sadly!
  14. I've had these for years, think I'm on my third set. Mine have only ever been held on with four M5 dome head Allen bolts, with nyloc nuts on the inside. 2 towards the top, 2 towards the bottom. Very easy to replace, and look/fit perfectly fine.
  15. Didn't like 48s tried them once, car tramlined like hell! 888s are an excellent tyre, seem to be much more compliant IMO. But, if you drive like a careful old woman, why do you need super sticky semi slicks

    Scimitar SS1

Maybe I'm being thick here, but I assume you're talking about a Reliant Scimitar? Didn't realise they still made them in 85, and is that really all it's worth!
  17. I think Martins told you all you need to know tbh. As regards what type of treatment, well anythings better than nothing! One thing I would say, is don't be tempted to try and fit panels to cover in the whole area, as no doubt some will advocate. In my opinion, this simply exacerbates the problem, as you'll never stop moisture getting in there, and by doing this, you are sealing it in to fester away quite happily! Far better to rinse it out regularly, if you have a compressor, fit a length of air pipe to the end of your air gun, to blast out crap and moisture, then squirt whatever takes your fancy back in. Oz.......
  18. I was thinking the same thing! Not sure about SOS either. Another unreliable broken down kit car perhaps? Still, good luck with that, I think you'll need it!
  19. I'll take it off you please. bit busy for the next couple of days, so could you bear with me. does blat mail work now?
  20. I did see a video once, where a girl was doing a very fine job of polishing the gear knob in a car. She wasn't using her hands though 😳

    Garage Clear-out

Hi Steve, I saw Phil last week, and he said he would be there. Phil Cook, AKA Cookie Monster, blue R300 with yellow rollcage. I think he has the number 53 on the side of the car. If he does turn up, can you give it to him. If not, then could you post it? Send me a BM, and we'll organise details. Oz.
  23. I'm with you John. I really don't understand why some people seem to have trouble, and feel the need to add bleed tees, holes in thermostat etc. I must have changed the coolant more than half a dozen times for various reasons over the years, and have never had a problem Like you say, nose in the air, massage hoses, jobs a good un! The only mod I've ever made to the cooling system is changing the thermostat from 88 to 82 many years ago. It's a bit like the gearbox oil, I've only ever used the usual recommended stuff when changing it in my 6 speed, and it's always been fine. Seems to me, that some people are now finding out that the wonder potion known as Redline MTL, may not be all it's cracked up to be! Sometimes things are better left alone. Oz. 24. Surely, even in the Outer Hebrides, there's a caravan you can nick one off 😬
