  1. Also, if you decide to build your own Type 9, do not be tempted to use SHYTE aftermarket baulk rings which are poorly made and that break after one semi-enthusiastic gear change. Don't ask me how I know.
  2. Can I dibs this please, as a friend and club member is after one. I will drop him a line right now. Cheers!
  3. As Ian says, the trimmed down nyloc is for widetracking when you use the spacer under the upright and on top of the bearing. You could widetrack without the spacer and use a normal nyloc. Or narrow track uses a normal nyloc, as you say.
  4. Cheers Dave. Let me go get a beer and I'll search the other computer for the mails.
  5. And I'll be at Spa at the beginning of April if you need the gearbox (or something else small-ish) bringing back to the UK. I don't think I have room for a whole engine! Gerry and I don't live far apart.
  6. My old engine had a ported VVC head, standard valve sizes and mild cams on a standard VVC160 bottom end and that made 200bhp/160lbft. One of my many emails to Oily over the years was actually titled "Ultimate potential of a VVC head?" It's on another computer, but if Dave is OK with it, I shall forward it on to you, to save him some typing and repeating of information, which I'm certain he has to do on a daily basis!
  7. Get a decent VVC head and modify the crap out of it. I think VHPD heads only have an advantage when you get really serious, as in above 250bhp.
  8. Cheers, Sean. Prop weights next. Weighed my standard prop at 3.8kgs. Will post up the weight of the upgraded one when I get it. Weight is secondary to strength as I don't fancy it flying apart! But the standard one has coped with everything I've thrown at it so far... By the way, met up with Ammo just before Christmas for a festive curry. He's back around here for a little bit. Can't believe it's been 2 years since he began his travels!
  9. I've just removed, drained and weighed my own ZF on the same bathroom scales and same location (hallway!) as when I weighed the Titan and I get: 7" Sierra diff with ZF and no oil = 22.4kgsSo 600g between the ZF and the Titan, i.e. the square root of sod all. However, 600g is 0.6kg so...
  10. Is it the Pace Easiclean type of tank, about 6.5" diameter? I'd try a new O-ring and band first. Think Automotive and Merlin supply the tank and might be able to get the bits. If not, try Pace themselves.
  11. Pressures sound good. What oil do you use? Another useful addition is an oil temperature gauge to give you an idea of when you can start to cane it.
  12. I'm advertising on behalf of a friend and former club member his Brian James Minno Max trailer, as his Caterham has now gone, but not forgotten. If you see a blue carbon wrapped C400 on the circuits, that was his! The trailer is a 2008 and he is the original and only owner, having covered a max of around 3000 miles. It's got loads of optional useful features: full deck, chocks, winch, lock, upgraded jockey wheel, straps, centre deck and jerry can box. The purchase receipt is for over £2500. It was serviced each year by himself but has not been used for the last 20 months and just sat in the garage. The asking price is £1750 and it is located in the Brentwood, Essex area, post code CM15. Please give Pete a call on 07711 608822 if you are interested. Photos of the trailer and original receipt are on my Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6y2d1p461jr08ik/AABdRnUUtTZC7hjpD67t6hwua?dl=0

    2016

Oulton is on my list of tracks to drive in 2016, Tom. For me, it makes sense to try and do another trackday back to back and make it into a proper trip. Problem is that the European trip in April will probably bankrupt me for the rest of the year!
  14. I also need another coolant temp sender. I don't mind used, as long as it works of course! It's this one: http://caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=17 If I don't have any luck here, then I'll go shopping with Redline in the New Year.
  15. Just seen the price of the Caterham/Pace Duratec tank. £714!
  16. Don't the Duratecs have the dry sump tank occupying the same space as the Brise kidney tanks? They will be metric chassis and, on the assumption that a K-series chassis is the same, then that tank will fit. It's a Pace-made tank, which you can only buy through Caterham at a guess.

    Lift at TDC

The blurb for DVA's SS driveability kit says that the inlet cam is typically retarded by up to 15 degrees, which means less lift at TDC, which matches with what you have measured.

    2016

Also very keen to do another Hethel day. Was planning on doing one at the end of April, but Magnitude Events sound interesting if it's going to be a "clubby" day.

    R500K Oil Temp

That's the puppy! There's only one small securing bolt holding the housing to the block (which you can see in your photo) and then you can pull the whole thing out. You may need to replace the O-ring if it has swollen up and won't go back in properly. However, you might be able to just disconnect the J-hose (blue thing) and get a mirror and torch to peer into the stat housing and see what's in there without too much dismantling. You will need to refill and bleed the cooling system of course. Edit: interesting to note the MSA tag on the engine.

    R500K Oil Temp

No, the stat housing is on the other side of the engine where the J-shaped hose goes into the back of the water pump, under the throttle bodies. You will have a stat housing regardless of whether you have a stat in there or a gutted stat to keep the seal in place.
  21. Crikey Darren. You're not having a fun time with this one are you?
  22. Washer bottle bracket now [sOLVED]. Thanks, Simon! I need to move my catch tank and would like one of these please, as mine seems to be welded to the area just above the gearbox lid. It's this one: http://caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=357 It's something like 70 mm wide with a 10 mm. Has anyone got one laying around they don't need? Ta.
  23. If you can fit a ~18-cm diameter tank in the gap, then the 6.5" Easiclean tank sounds perfect for the job.

    R500K Oil Temp

Welcome to the club. I have a brand new R500 stat plus new seal kicking around if you find that your stat is missing/stuck open and explaining your low running temperature. It's this one. Engine sounds amazing!
