  1. Argh, Andy! Good luck with the sale. I am skint at the moment and for the foreseeable while.
  2. Just subscribing to this thread as I'm interested in Tom's upgrade path Nitrons --> Meteor idea as well.

What sort of alternator do you have already? Brise are popular for straight-fit lightweight alternators. Powerlite and WOSP also supply them. Or you could get a Denso from eBay for less money and make it fit.

Which one did you go for? In my usual style, I went for the cheapest and crossed my fingers.

The lithium battey I've been using for the past year is 902 grammes on the kitchen scales.
  6. This on eBay may or may not be of use: http://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/281826115443
  7. Thanks Stuart. Yes, please do drop me a line if you find out about James. Google tells me that he's the company director! We were Nottingham Univesity/drinking/motorsport pals in the late 1990s and it would be great to get back in touch again.
  8. The install from which my engine was just removed had that same starter motor (with the solenoid on the underside) as well as a Powerspeed 4-2-1 system. HOWEVER, it was an LHD, so the primaries are slightly different to clear the path of the steering column. I can't see it being a problem with a "normal" RHD Powerspeed though, which doesn't need to snake around the column.
  9. Stuart, totally off-topic, but is it a James Cholerton that runs Derby Plating Ltd.?
  10. I've just replumbed my cooling system with an 82C PRRT that came with my new engine. From my limited experience with it running in the donor car, it seemed to hold temperature steady. The plumbing was very easy, with just a few cuts of (silicone) hoses, and a new section of hose and handful of Jubilee clips to buy. I was going to do my own pikey QED-style remote stat mod by putting a standard stat housing in the top hose and removing the centre of the stat in the standard location, but several people have said to me that the coolant temp can "cycle" as it warms up. No such issues with a PRRT, apparently. Plus it came with the new engine, so made sense to just use it.
  11. Thanks for the reply. The silencing material in my Powerspeed is what can only be described as a load of wigs stuffed in there! I converted my old 6" Caterham/Chesman SLR/VHPD silencer to be repackable and it was very easy to use the blanket-type Acoustafil in there. Not only that, after a couple of dozen trackdays and thousands of track miles, it never got any louder. With this Powerspeed, it looks a lot easier to be able to just ram the Boa stuff in there. However, I don't want to trade off noise reduction against ease of packing.
  12. As above. Has anyone tried the Boa version of Acousta-Fil? I've used the traditional blanket-type version before and it works amazingly well. I may have to repack the new silencer with Acoustafil if it turns out to be too loud when I eventually get it back on circuit. Might be slightly easier to use the Boa version as you can just ram it in without having to mess around with cardboard tubes and cling film etc. It's this stuff: http://www.jjcraceandrally.com/race/exhaust-silencers/acousta-fil-boa-exhaust-silencer-packing Cheers.
  13. They are yours Jonathan! I've not got them to hand but I think I will be able to sneak them in under the cheap Royal Mail postage barrier, if you aren't too fussed about the original massive box they came in. Will drop you a private message in a bit!
  14. Ditch that heavy-ass metal spark plugs cover strip bolted to your EU2 cam cover and stick a plastic item on there instead to save a bit of weight. Fair enough it might say "ROVER" on it, but if you've just made your car 0.0000000000000000000000005% lighter and faster, who cares as no one will see it. Comes with bolts and captive washers so you don't have to scrabble about on the garage floor when you drop the fixings. I've gone to an EU3 cam cover so don't need this any more. £10 (might have two of these) Picture here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ytvc41tqpdtaj7e/DSCF3135.JPG?dl=0 Set of Piper SC3 steel valve spring caps, to suit mechanical followers. Or you can grind off the support ring and use them with hydraulic lifters, whether remaining hydraulic or converted to solids, as detailed in the DVA Bible. I bought these from the Caterham open day earlier this year but I no longer need them as I'm changing the whole engine instead. I paid a tenner for them, so the asking price is... £10 Picture here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jf3u6mma7knyj9m/DSCF3139.JPG?dl=0
  15. Hi Gerry. In fact, our friend is bringing some of his spare mounts to his unit tomorrow for me so that I can fire the engine in before the end of the week! You two are just so resourceful that I should have just asked directly. Cheers!
  16. Does anyone have a pair of engine mount rubbers and large centre bolts kicking around doing nothing? The rubbers don't even need to be much cop and I might not even need the centre bolts, but they could be useful. I would like to get my engine hung back in the car in the right place so that I can get on with the plumbing while I wait for the Vibra-Technics mounts to come back. Cheers!
  17. Thankfully, I have had some sense slapped in me and been saved from adding weight!
  18. I'm going to punch all of you in the bracket! Blatchat brawl over silly little badge, shock horror.
  19. I think Andrew would love that, Albert! If not, then I wouldn't mind it.
  20. Hi Jonathan. Thanks for the reply. I'm very keen on the wheel and will drop you a private message later on today. Cheers!
  21. What's the oil pressure reading at, say, 4000rpm? Is it in the normal range?
  22. Do you know the brand, please? And is it Ford PCD?

It's the guys at TTV selling/manufacturing that pulley. It's no good if you run a Titan dry sump pump as you need the extra set of ribs for the belt. Also, have a search for the reason there is a slither of rubber between the centre of the pulley and the outer. Harmonic damper or something like that. If you don't run a belt on the smaller set of ribs, cut them off or swap to a Rover Metro-style pulley that has only one set of ribs and also runs one less rib, 4 instead of the normal 5.
  24. Spotted today about midday-ish, 27/9, pulling into the car park looking for a space.
