  1. Thanks guys. I'd read the assembly guide as well and felt it a waste of time. I seem to recall letting Caterham set the stop when it went for the post build check. John, you're description matches what I had tentatively thought of, so that's what I'll do.
  2. Hi, Can someone please point me to the procedure for adjusting the clutch pedal stop on a hydraulic clutch Duratec?

    BigHead Failures

Is the consensus that the failure is due to the loops being forced out of shape and weakening the weld? Are there any alternatives to the bighead?

    BigHead Failures

I recently had a bighead failure where the weld holding the loops had broken. Another ReHaBer has had a similar failure with two bigheads. Does anyone know why the welds are failing? Is it because the welds are poorly made? Or are there vibrations and stresses causing them to break?
  5. I used an old guitar string to remove my broken bighead. I cut away enough to get the wire underneath then gently pulled it through, beneath it. It took some force but it didn't damage the wing.
  6. Do the bearings come as matched pairs? Or are the inner the same as the outer? I want to remove the outside bearing and get matching sets (if necessary) before attempting to remove the hub to replace.
  7. Where did your fluid go or is it still sitting there? As far as I can tell, it isn't anywhere. I've used a small inspection camera to look into the bottom of the bell housing and it appears OK - as far as I can tell. Current thinking is that it's 'boiiled' away. I must confess to not checking the level recently so I can't say if there has been a gradual reduction in level or if it all happened at once. Regards, Ian.
  8. A quick run round the block has not reduced the level any significant amount. Question is - do I use it to go to Silverstone tomorrow? Regards, Ian.
  9. This is invariably the case with dry-sumped vauxhalls with the slave in the DS bellhousing, and is probably down to the deterioration of the slave cylinder seals. If this applies to wet sump duratecs, then I guess I'll have to look at replacing the slave at some point. Regards, Ian
  10. Just refilled the clutch system and bled it. What surprised me was the colour of the fluid that came out . It is a dark grey colour. I ran the fluid through until it came out the same as going in. Is the change in colour indicative of anything? Regards, Ian
  11. Hi Ian, Not sure when I last checked the level ☹️.
  12. Hi Martin, The clutch stop is fitted. Is the slave something I should be able to get locally? Edited by - IanW on 17 Jul 2013 21:32:27
  13. While I'm waiting for recovery, what is the most likely cause of clutch fluid loss? Engine is a 2L Duratec. If it's the slave cylinder, is it a standard part? Edited by - IanW on 17 Jul 2013 20:05:11
  14. I had a similar problem with my Duratec. I thought it might be the throttle pot but adjusting the idle speed solved it (thanks to DPR). My rev counter does not drop below 1200 rpm even though the engine is running slower than that, so it was not obvious (to me anyway). The OBD software shows the correct idle speed.
  15. I used Terostat MS939 to fix the bigheads to my wings. After an incident with the tyre wall at Castle Combe, it was the bighead that broke (the two loops became detached from the body).
  16. You forgot to mention our illustrious AR He wasn't happy I didn't 'spot' him on FB 😬 Edited by - IanW on 8 Jun 2013 11:14:23
  17. Hi Jon, Thank you for organising. Here are some ideas of where to fit them.
  18. I've used compressors similar to the ones pictured above, but be careful of them slipping around the springs as they are compressed. It was a very careful two man job. Even then I managed to scratch the damper in a couple of places.
  19. Hi Jonathan, Confirming that I'll take two, please.
  20. I had a similar problem with my master cylinder leaking during a track day. I wrapped a cloth around it to stop the fluid spreading any further. I fitted another rubber washer to ensure a good seal and it hasn't leaked since.
  21. And an excellent blat it was too 😬
  22. I use these over my prescription glasses
  23. OK. I think I understand. My 2009 car must not have this feature.
