  1. Spotted in The Thatch Cottage car park (Farnborough) at lunchtime . Celebrating again Tony? Regards, Ian. P.S. Actually spotted by my wife.
  2. For reference I requested the 20th of this month and they have just scheduled me for the 23rd. This is at Gillingham, near the Dartford factory. Regards, Ian.
  3. Thanks for the replies. Steve - It's too late for the side skin repeaters as I've already drilled out the wings . good idea though. John - I might lengthen the leads as you suggest. I'm not happy grounding them on the wing stays either. Regards, Ian.
  4. Hi, Another easy question . I'm fitting my cycle wings to the wingstays using bigheads and tie-wraps. For IVA compliance, indicator repeater lights are required. The supplied lights only have a short earth lead that is intended to be fixed to front wingstay with a pop-rivet. Is this still applicable when using bigheads? Regards, Ian.

    Hood sticks

Thanks for the replies. I have it sorted now. I even had to hood up for a while yesterday whilst attempting to fit the sidescreens (I chickened out when it came to the drilling). Regards, Ian

    Hood sticks

Hi, Just a quick question about the hood sticks. Are they supposed to collapse into the boot when folded down or should they be removed? If removed where are they stored? Mine appear to wide to fit in the boot. Regards, Ian

    Duratec electrics

Hi, Just a quick update. I identified the cable - it is brown with a black sleeve . Not very obvious for a positive lead ❗. This cable, along with a cable from the alternator and the red cable to the battery all connect at the starter motor. Regards, Ian.

    Duratec electrics

Hi Regin, Thanks for the tip. I'll have a look at the harness when I get to the garage. Of course, now that the engine is in, the loom is buried beneath the plenum chamber . Regards, Ian.
  9. Hi again, I'm trying to wire up my Duratec to the chassis. So if anyone can help I'd be grateful. I have the alternator output wired to the starter motor solenoid (this was fitted when the engine was delivered). I have added in a red cable from the starter solenoid to the battery. I assume that this is correct. I have connected earth leads from the chassis to the engine block and from the block / bell housing to the battery. I have found an earth lead from the chassis loom that probably goes to the battery. What I can't find is a power cable to the rest of the system. Any ideas where it might be located in the chassis loom? Regards, Ian.
  10. Hi All, It's in! . The alternator came off really easily. The only problem was managing to get the gearbox mounting plate caught underneath the chassis crossmember. It was finally released with a sharp pull of the engine towards the front of the car, which caught my finger (now bandaged up) 😳. Thanks for all the suggestion and, I know, I should have read the manual 😬. Regards, Ian.
  11. The diagonals are fixed. But I am confident that once the alternator has been removed, there will be room to squeeze the engine in .
  12. SM25T - I was wondering if I have the correct chassis with the amount of trouble I'm having 😬. Darren - Yes, the alternator is on the inlet side. I'll remove it tomorrow and have another go. I tried fitting the gearbox / bell-housing first but the block still wouldn't go in. I think the alternator was still the problem. Just re-checked the manual, and you are correct, the alternator must be removed first . Thanks. Ian. Edited by - IanW on 24 Jun 2009 20:39:48
  13. Hi, My build has finally come to complete standstill. I can't get the engine into the chassis. It seems that the chassis is just too small . Does anyone know if you have to remove the alternator to get the engine in? It looks that this might be my last option. If I have to remove it, how easy is it to re-tension the belt? I assume it's possible once the engine is in the car. I have already removed the RH mounting bracket and the starter motor. All suggestions and offers to help are welcome . Regards, Ian.
  14. Dave, thanks for the offer but Colchester is a little too far away. But it has given me the idea to have a look in a local DIY store for something similar. Ian.
  15. Hi Paul, Is this the item you are referring to? Regards, Ian.
  16. Iain and Peter, Thanks for the suggestions. Brent, you have mail. Ian.
  17. Hi, I have now taken delivery of my Roadsport SV 2L Duratec kit and while the engine is not fitted I thought it might be a good idea to put some heat reflecting material around the driver's foot well. What is the current thinking on preventing heat getting into the foot well? I have read some of the past threads on the matter but there seemed no consensus on materials. I quite liked the look of this stuff but it is probably over the top. Suggestions for alternatives are welcome. Regards, Ian.
