  1. Hi Steve, I think we've discussed this before, but I think the molybdenums are a no-no in the friction-plate type of LSD - they are fine/recommended for gear-type LSDs like my Quaife ATB. Edited by - Ferrino on 12 Feb 2007 18:31:44
  2. If you do decide to get a pro to fit the ATB with your new CWP then I strongly recommend Phil at Road & Race Transmissions in Kent. He dropped a 3.27 into my Ital (to suit bike engine) along with an ATB - I definitely didn't trust myself with such an expensive assembly! As for oil, he recommended EP90 gear oil, along with a bottle of MolySlip-type stuff (molybendum disulfide???) which I found on EBAY. Yamaham @ Keevil
  3. Poo. Swapped them for Pagid's and the difference is amazing (though that may be due to the enhanced braking from my lighter wallet 😬). I am using them as a fast-road/trackday pad and am very happy. Yamaham @ Keevil
  4. There's a piccy on the Demon Tweeks website. Motosport -> Caterham -> Performance...... Yamaham @ Keevil
  5. From memory of some photos, ISTR the castellated nut (under the black domed dust cap) looks a lot bigger than the standard affair? Yamaham @ Keevil
  6. erm , they're not that expensive direct from Bighead? and you can buy small quantities, or at least you could last year. Yamaham @ Keevil
  7. I guess it is always going to be a compromise in an asymmetrical car - you balance the fronts and you upset the diagonals, and vice versa? Surely you cannot just go for diagonal balance and disregard the fronts - I'm sure a 12kg imbalance across the fronts is going to cause "peculiar characteristics" too? Or am I just talking jibberish - I know that my setup gives me great confidence in braking, which is really important to me. [goes off to read c-weighting threads....] Edited by - Ferrino on 1 Feb 2007 23:45:00
  8. That looks like quite a significant imbalance across your front axle and probably the reason for pulling to the left - I think the strategy is to get these as close as possible (think mine are within 1kg) and then let the rear take the imbalance. Do you have adjustable dampers? You need to be able to wind the spring platform up/down to tweak the weight on each corner. I had my suspension setup by a race team in West Oxfordshire (probably not far from you, mail me if you want details as they did it for an excellent price) and asked for settings suitable for fast-road/track. I ended up with 0 degrees tracking and a smidgen of negative camber and with the corner-weighting the car feels superb on track, with really nicely balanced braking. I decided against doing it myself as I didn't even have a flat garage to work with, let alone all the equipment. Yamaham @ Keevil
  9. I have found the bonded Bighead fastener method to be excellent, they haven't looked like budging at all. Just need to snip the cable ties to remove the wing, and as they are cable tied, you can play around with the alignment/position of the wing, as opposed to the one-chance you get with direct bonding. to whoever discovered the Bighead method! Yamaham @ Keevil
  10. I would use the Bonded-Bighead method. You would still need a set of bigheads for each height though. But the aim would be to have a wingstay that suits your main set of wheels, which doesn't seem to be achieved very often with the current setup (hence why I cut-and-shut my wingstays). Yamaham @ Keevil
  11. I always thought it would be neat to have wingstays of adjustable height - eg. the 2 struts/arms screwing into threads in the base to achieve a wing of differing radius from the wheel centre. Yamaham @ Keevil
  12. Simon, it looks like the XG Log display unit is identical to my Mychron-3, which I have fitted flush with my carbon dash - piccy here. I had to grind off a *little* powder-coating & metal from the dash tubes to make it fit without it being so tight that vibrations could have damaged the internals. The MXL is larger and IIRC Jackal (don't know if he posts any more) had to have quite a bit taken off to get it in there, but it does look sooo much better like this. Yamaham @ Keevil
  13. Simon, why can't you use the standard Caterham sender with your AIM display 🤔 I am using it with my Mychron 3 AIM display and it works fine - it's great having a customisable display as you get it to display number of litres remaining, or even a percentage The only reason I can think of for changing sender with an AIM display is to get one which does mechanical damping, maybe that's it? 14. and pretty much half the road 😬 Yamaham @ Keevil
  15. I'm a big fan of the AIM range of dashes - I use the 'Mychron 3 Gold Auto' and it is just brilliant considering the cost. Fits nicely between the Caterham dash tubes so that it is flush on the dash like the Stack dashes and does lots of cool things like logging, lap-timing, gear indicator, lateral accelerometer, shift lights etc. Here is a pic. 16. Never seen one on a Caterham, but I know they are popular with the other kitcars. Personally I think the unit is ugly and I'm not sure how well it would fit on the relatively small Caterham dash? Yamaham @ Keevil

    Reverse Gear

Hi David! Sure, as I said, I've seen lots of other Series require a reverse - but why? Yamaham @ Keevil

    Reverse Gear

AIUI, lacking a reverse gear (as in a lot of BECs) puts you automatically in Class 6. I am not contemplating competition, but was just curious as to the reason for this, as I had previously seen a lot of other Series demand a reverse mechanism too. It's clearly not required for road-legality in the UK so it's not that. I'm sure the answer is simple! Is it just that organisers deem ability to reverse a trait of a roadgoing car? Yamaham @ Keevil
  19. Get some bike-engine throttle bodies and a MegaSquirt thingy on there lad Yamaham @ Keevil
  20. If you want them in GRP try here. Yamaham @ Keevil
  21. I earthed mine. When I turn on the ignition it starts the search for the fob, and when I turn off the ignition it starts the countdown to re-arming. Yamaham @ Keevil
  22. Martin, I am using an AIM dash (Mychron 3) with the standard Caterham fuel level sender and it works fine (although there is no damping, so you read fuel level when you are stationary). From memory, I am using a 2 Kohm resistor. I basically poured a litre of fuel in at a time and measured the resistance - you then punch the values into the AIM software and it draws a curve between the points. I think VDO make a sender which has mechanical damping, but I couldn't find one with the appropriate hole pattern to fit the caterham tank and they were quite pricey compared to the float-type. Yamaham @ Keevil
  23. Oh cool - it's a great unit isn't it? It definitely looks best recessed into the dash (so that it is flush with the dash), though I found I had to grind a wee bit off the dash tubes to fit it in without the fear of vibrations wrecking the internals! Yamaham @ Keevil
  24. Which AIM display did you go for Simon? I am using the Mychron 3 Gold and can see all of the display with a 260mm MOMO (circular not D-shaped). Yamaham @ Keevil
  25. And I think the Original Lotus 7 came with a 450mm big-red-mother of a wheel! Something to do with Chapman's affection for buses. Yamaham @ Keevil
