Hi Nick - sure you can have the scuttle (and the nosecone if Mark cannot use it). Which other bits were you after? I have a complete floorpan and various other ali panels if you like!!!!! Tony - a spare!!!! This was the finest 'mainstream' wheel available - they discontinued it and they have been selling for over a ton since Yamaham @ Keevil

EBAY auctions ending today Mark, shoudl get some nosecone photos to you today/tomorrow. Bonnet has gone, scuttle still available. Yamaham @ Keevil
  5. Cheers! Looking at the 0-30 PSI version of this gauge from DT. It says they are Available with a liquid filled dial face or with a glow-in-the-dark face - is the glow-in-the-dark one OK? It's 20 quid cheaper! Do DT still do a L7C discount through Dave K? 10% wasn't it? Yamaham @ Keevil
  6. So far I have just been setting tyre pressure using petrol station air pumps - could someone please recommend a decent quality air pressure gauge and footpump? Would like to do this at home and understand that the petrol station efforts may not be the last say in accuracy! Yamaham @ Keevil
  7. Still my favourite thread of all time
  8. Is there any way you could access a bump-steer gauge and measure it for your specific setup? I had bump-steer checked when I had my 7 corner-weighted and was told it was absolutely fine and would not need raising - this was for an 8% quickrack in a 1989 chassis. Yamaham @ Keevil

Simon - thanks, sure I will reserve it for him - I am due to drop something else off to him, so will bring this too if he wants it. Mark - the nosecone has some material removed where the front of the Weber carbs fouled it and I am also wondering if the dzus fastener holes had been moved to compensate..... so I don't think it would be much use for anything more than experimenting. I will see if I can take some photos tonight and get back to you. Yamaham @ Keevil

Put some stuff on EBAY recently - see here. Also, before I bin them, does anyone have any use for the following (can send photos if you like). Free, collection from Abingdon: - Scuttle from 1989 Classic (unpainted ali) - it has holes for wiper/washer mechanism, windscreen stanchions, and holes to place Brooklands mirrors directly onto scuttle (without stanchion). - Bonnet from 1989 Classic (unpainted ali) - bit of a custom job for unusual engine installation, but might be useful for experimenting with..... - GRP Nosecone from 1989 Classic (pearlescent white!) - again, bit of a custom effort, but might be useful for mucking around with intake ideas etc.... Yamaham @ Keevil
  11. Erm, if you are seriously contemplating a bike engine then there are much more experienced and knowledgeable forums to tap into than Blatchat! I would suggest you make some enquiries/search the Yahoo mailing list and the Locost BEC site. These guys have been building and running a wide variety of BECs for some time and are the people to ask. Good luck with your quest for a BEC - they're cracking machines Yamaham @ Keevil

    Headlights

yep they seem good to me - i think they are powdercoated brass shells, yes. Yamaham @ Keevil
  13. Guys, out of interest, how much extra track do widetrack wishbones offer over standard ones (assuming same wheels)? ta. Edited by - Ferrino on 16 Aug 2006 13:52:38
  14. Yes, IIRC, the two sizes are 0.7" and 0.75" - it should be stamped onto the cast body of the cylinder. When I stripped the car down for the rebuild, I found that the previous owner/garage had fitted a different size bore on each side If you are unsure on which size to fit then perhaps give James Whiting a call. HTH.
  15. Bear in mind that there are 2 different bore sizes available!
  16. Just brilliant 😬 Bit nervous as it was my first ever trackday, but felt very comfortable out there. Car handled really nicely, though still getting to know my damper settings - there were a few surface changes which I think the initial settings were too strong for - wound them down a bit and this improved things. Very pleased with braking performance (HiSpec Ultralites avec Pagid RS15s; drums and boggo shoes on rear), especially after having the corner-weights adjusted - nicely balanced. Tyres? Well the Cr500s are in a slighly different league to Yoko A539s! I'm hoping that the lighter weight of the BEC will help tyre durability? Can't wait to configure my ignition-cut for full-throttle upshifts - this is the main reason I haven't been using electronic shift yet, though I really do enjoy using the stick-shift: preload the stick, lift off the throttle a smidgen and it 'snicks' into gear 😬 The sound of banging down the 'box from 6th -> 2nd is just awesome. Have a shedload to learn about track driving and am definitely getting some tuition for next time around.
  17. Cheers guys. Robin - I do appear to have the 'wrong' version of the nylon breather (ie. the hole is so large that it's letting too much fluid escape). Redline are sending me the version with the constriction that you describe and I will see how that goes - failing that, I will just loop a bit of hose onto the end of it as Chris describes.
  18. I've overfilled my Ital live axle to help control oil surge (about 1.5 litres total) - probably overkill given that I've fitted 'Robster' oil seals around the diff, but no harm (fresh seals all round). Noticed that quite a bit of oil was spat out of the white nylon breather during trackday (it was dripping off the axle and getting into the a-frame bush). So I am thinking of running a pipe from the breather to the bottom of a small catch tank, as I have read others have done (with oil draining back into axle after hooliganism). Has anyone got any piccies of their setup? Where did you position the tank? Cheers!

    Brake Pads

OK, spoke to John at Performance Braking (nice guy) and ordered a set of Pagid RS15s to replace the Greenstuff. Cleaned up the discs with abrasive and completed the 'interesting' bedding-in procedure at about 1am on some empty roads. Very pleased with the improvement in braking - there's a lot more 'bite' to these, and even when cold they seem to work well. Used them at the Keevil trackday and they performed really well all day and I feel much more confident with these. It was my first trackday and hence my first real chance to get some heat into the brakes - wow. I thought they might be a little too aggressive for a BEC (with drums on rear), but it seemed easy to modulate braking strength without locking the wheels (or maybe I'm not braking hard enough yet!). Will see how they go in the wet. They do squeal quite a bit at low speed but it doesn't bother me. These pads also seem to be a better match for the standard Triumph discs than the Greenstuff, which had 1mm or so of friction material 'overhanging' the disc, which I guess could be dangerous as the rest of the friction material wears down and leaves a high-spot which could contact the disc. Dunno, perhaps I didn't bed the Greenstuff pads in correctly (it was commented that the discs looked a little glazed at the local meet) despite going by the instructions, but I'm much happier with these and by all accounts they are more durable and less prone to track-related issues.
  20. I use the Mychron 3 Gold Auto and all of the display (and shift-lights) is visible through my MOMO wheel. I am very pleased with it indeed. It also fits between the dash tubes, such that you can get it flush with the dash surface. I think Jackal used his MXL with a 'cut' steering wheel in order to see everything properly. It used to be much cheaper to buy them from the US (as I did) but I think they cottoned onto it and stopped transatlantic sales.....
  21. Ian asked if I wanted it when he ordered my prop - it was about 40 quid extra. Are you sure he didn't spec yours with one?
  22. TRT = torque-resilient tube. The rubber donut gizmo in my rear prop which absorbs some of the transmission clunk - came highly recommended.
  23. Sure it's coming, just need to sort out the brakes and put some more miles on the clock! 1st impressions are very very good though Edited by - Ferrino on 3 Aug 2006 12:48:27
  24. Some people were interested to see how much the Yamaham weighs and I have now had the suspension professionally set up and the corner-weights adjusted by RH Racing. Brief spec is: live-axle chassis, ital axle (drums, LSD), CX-R one-piece wheels (6" front and 7" rear), CR500 tyres, carbed R1 engine (no dry-sump, foam filter), R1 ali radiator/fan, electronic & manual gearchange mechs, 2-piece prop with centre-bearing and TRT, no reverse, home-made loom, no weather gear, CC half-doors, carbon aeroscreen & dash, digidash instead of clocks, GRP front & rear wings, GRP Tilletts with box section ali runners, FIA bar, stainless 4-2-1 manifold with baffled bike can, alloy front hubs, alloy dampers, alloy big-brakes, ali boot floor........ The numbers: *arrowright*With 75kg ballast in the driver's seat and 25 litres of fuel and all other fluids = 480kg *arrowright*Remove driver = 405kg *arrowright*Remove fuel = 385kg Front:Rear weight distribution = 42%:58% (with 25l fuel in tank and driver). Approx. 100kg on each of the fronts (with driver), with the rear taking the imbalance. Extremely pleased with the final weight - should make for power:weight of around 415 BHP/tonne (based on estimated 160BHP and the sans fuel weight). Yet to test out the new setup on road/track......
