    310R vs 420R

Hi James Just read through this thread with interest - it is a tricky decision to make and it is difficult to compare. It seems that all Caterhams have their own unique attributes with no two being the same! Also so many variables with respect to gearboxes, diff ratios etc which change the way it feels/drives! I have a Sigma SV with just under 200bhp with a longer 1st and 2nd in my type 9 box and love it. It revs freely and sounds great! I have not driven a Duratec and mine back to back to really appreciate the differences, but largely agree with the comments expressed! Sounds like it will be great to build it with your dad and you will obviously enjoy it irrespective of which car you build. For me I would think hard about what you want from your car and then look for the best fit. If you go Sigma you must speak to Stuart at Premier Power. If you want brutal torque, then consider the Ecoboost for Duratec money or go for the Duratec for less torque but with different characteristics to the Ecoboost! Wanted to say more but family matters drag me away! Drop me a line if you want to talk further! Cheers Garth
  2. May not be helpful but the people I used to hire my trailers from rated Bateson very highly - my better than Brian James he told me! Good luck

It was not me sadly - I judged it would not sell for more thew £225 so my top bid went to £223! - should have made it higher! Would have been a decent Christmas present!

    Engine hoist?

    Have one in Wimbledon!!
  9. I will try and take some pics this weekend - car in a garage remote from where I live!
  10. I have one from an SV - are they different? I know the seats are, but the headrests could be the same?
  11. Interesting how old school is now a satnav - not long ago it was maps!
  12. Hi Andy Her is a Link to a recent post with some pics showing the principle of the fixing - they have been used with several types of mirrors! I am on holiday for two weeks from Friday so am probably not going to have time to get to my garage to take any pics of my set, but send me a personal mail if you would like to see some pics and I will certainly do it on my return. Cheers Garth
  13. Welcome Mike - probably not very helpful - do not know the details and not near my car, but I would take one of your screws out and then you can measure the diameter and length etc - if you have some metric nuts to hand you could check the thread that way? Have you considered trying to get hold of some of those mirror mounts that fix to the door hinges - a few different types have been made over the years - I have a set which I do not use because like others noted above I discovered I do not like driving with the doors off!! may be too late as you have ordered the mirrors! Garth
  14. Watching this with interest John as one of my winter jobs is to fit the wizard and new fuel gauge! Garth
  15. bought this - uses wifi and is not bad - obviously not up there with expensive versions - but good enough to see the carbon build up in my ports etc and look for a stray bolt!
  16. Probably a bit late now, but a smart phone endoscope would allow you to take a peak inside?
  17. Jeff at HWR recommended I used an octane booster if I cannot get 98 for my upgraded engine - he supplied me some which I have used from time to time when abroad - I do not have a view on what it does!! I cannot recall what it is called but will try and remember to look next time I am in the garage!
  18. See this earlier topic which may be useful? I have the gauge wizard and a new racetech gauge but have not got around to doing the work yet! Garth
  19. No longer using my Starcom so have stripped it out of my car. Includes digital unit, two bluetooth units, two yellow headsets (one working intermittently), two helmet sets (now removed from helmets) and a volume control. Looking for £120 + p&p for the lot. Garth
  20. I obviously need to loose weight as I managed to break my seat whilst drifting giving joy rides at The Supercar event last week. Have spoken to Oxted - they say they can try and repair it but given the way they are constructed it is tricky and I will most likely end up needing a new seat! Does anyone have one they would like to sell? Garth
  21. Final update - engine in again with correct position of slave in relation to pressure plate springs - new slave and master and it all works! Still getting used to the new clutch action - uprated pressure plate - feels more like an on/off switch so a bit easier to stall pulling off! Thanks for all the advice and also again to Alan and Graeme who helped me take the engine in and out twice! Garth
  22. Hi James - is your setup all standard? Type 9 or Mazda box (not sure when the Mazda was introduced)? The advice I got from BGH recently (for my type 9 - but imagine it is the same for others) about whether or not the clutch was disengaging correctly was to depress the clutch fully at idle - wait a couple of seconds and then engage reverse - if there was any grating then the clutch was not fully disengaged! I also heard for someone that it is possible to over depress a hydraulic clutch (ie push the pressure plate too far so the clutch will disengage but then re-engage a little at full pedal travel!?) - so it is important to make sure the clutch stop is adjusted correctly. Did not have to explore this further on my rebuild as clutch was disengaging fully. Was the slave cylinder replaced when the box went back in? Everyone I have spoken to recommends putting a new one in? If your setup is not standard then there are other things you may need to consider regarding the set up of the slave cylinder in relation to the pressure plate which I found out the hard way! Good luck Garth
  23. Presume it is a water sensor. On my Sigma the sensor is on the water rail so it would not matter if the sensor was a bit longer (would just protrude into the pipe a bit more!) as long as it was compatible with everything else? Will yours fit without fouling anything? From the photo it looks as though the thread on the new sensor is different to the old? Good luck Garth
