    Which Sealant?

Going to reseal the base of the scuttle to the top of the foot well panels. Any views on what sort of black sealant to use - any sanitary ware sealant with reasonable temp resistance? Thanks Garth
  2. Have removed the top of my scuttle by drilling out the rivets connecting it to the vertical panel etc. The seal at the base of this vertical panel (between it and the horizontal panel over the foot well) was pretty ropey so I have been cleaning it up which is a bit of a mission! I have just seen some pics on Facebook which suggest that this vertical panel is not actually fixed to the chassis but just slots into a gap between the chassis and another panel? Can anyone confirm if this is correct? This being the case it would be much easier to remove it completely to clean it up properly - could even give it nice new coat of spray paint and then reseal easily? Looked at the pic on the Caterham parts website and this looks straight, but not the best pic. Thanks Garth
  3. Thanks Ian - does the crouch strap run over the front of the seat?
  4. MR Doctor ! Probably a silly question, but can one use a six point harness on standard leather seats? Thanks Garth
  5. Thanks Alan - it s Graham Janes - not sure he is making them anymore or if he frequents this site!!
  6. Thanks Elie - on order!
  7. Hi Curly - have posted the mirrors to Pete so sorry. Have sent you a PM about where I got them. Garth

    Bulkhead

That is different to my heater box - the top of mine is sealed against the lip of the scuttle - I had to remove the heater box to get at the rivets behind! Am going to have to bolt through the lip of the heater box through the scuttle into the firewall! Just a bit tight and the heater box is not that robust!
  9. Sorry not sure what is happening but I cannot seem to edit my post! This is what I have been trying to add.... Pair of carbon effect flat lens clip on mirrors for driving without doors. Clip onto door hinge mounts on stanchions. Lenses are 110 wide by 50 mm high. £50 + P&P. Apologies for double etc post!
  10. I have a single unused CR500 195/45 R15 looking for a good home. The markings show it was made in Sept 2016. It was kept as a spare and never fitted. I collected it from an ex-Caterham owner recently but cannot use it as I run on 13" rims. Prefer for it to be collected from the SW20 area and a small donation to a charity could be appropriate if it is put to good use?

I presume none of you have heaters to deal with?

    15 inch tyres???

I have one unused CR500 (been in storage for 4 years) I could let you have if you could find 3 others!
  13. Thanks - still going to need to get mine out to measure thread and pitch!
  14. Will get mine out thanks - wanted to order one before taking it out!
  15. Anyone know where I can source one of these? Cannot even find the standard one on the Caterham website! Also thinking of getting one for my Ford diff? Cheers Garth
  16. As I have nothing better to do I removed my scuttle today with a view to leaving the vertical (firewall) section in place and fitting rivnuts in this vertical section to re-fix the scuttle. All relatively straightforward, but just wondering how people who have done this have dealt with the heater box? There were about 7 rivets behind the top flange of the box which was just stuck over them with silicone! Looks like one needs a reasonable seal between the top of the heater box and the scuttle. If these rivets are replaced with bolts they will protrude much further than the rivets did? Is the answer just to use button heads and lots of silicone? Ideally not silicone so it is easier to remove in the future? Could one use a neoprene seal instead of the silicone and screw right through the flange (and the neoprene) on the heater (probably with a thin s/s plate for strength?). Any ideas welcome please. Thanks Garth

Hi Jeff - as Ian says above if you PM me your email address I will send you some pics of a set made by a Surrey member for driving 'doorless'! Cheers. Garth

    Diff Upgrade

Pleased to hear that - I was surprised when R&R told me I had done well to get 4 years out of my Titan! I was not told this when I chose the Titan originally!

    Diff Upgrade

Thanks Jonathan - I could not get it right!
  20. I use Millers because that is what Northhampton Motorsport recommended when they did my rolling road. HWR swears by Royal Purple, Caterham used to recommend Comma (not sure what they do now...?) - I think you are going to get several different opinions on this! Good Luck deciding

    Diff Upgrade

Plates were not carbon and according to R&R were in perfect condition - just my Belleville springs needed replacing - R&R say my rebuilt Titan LSD is as good as new! Will probably be trying to sell it soon! My Titan LSD had always been quiet (I started with an open diff and had the LSD fitted after about 5 years of ownership so I could do donuts giving joy rides at the Children's Trust Super Car event! - did not notice any significant noise change when the LSD went in) so when I started to hear loud clonking noises when turning at low speed I knew something had changed. Do not really understand why there should be any noise difference between different plates types (be good to have some wisdom here!) I presume when they are fully engaged (therefore all spinning together) there should be no noise generated from the plates, but perhaps when they are 'disengaged' (therefore 'clutch plates' spinning at a different speed to the 'friction plates') there is still contact due to the pre-load which means different materials could make different noises? Surely they should not be 'rubbing' too much when not 'engaged' as this would result in rapid wear and lots of heat? Have done a couple of short rides with the new Tracsport LSD fitted and diff back to nice and quiet (relatively speaking) again! Difficult to say how long the Titan will last - R&R said I was lucky to get 4 years out of mine - I think the issue is more with the springs than the plates although as said earlier the Titan plates have to work much harder than the Tracsport ones due to their smaller size. Seems odd to me that we should expect to have our LSD's out regularly for a service - do not lots of performance road cars run plate LSD's and one does not hear of them having to come out regularly? If you send me your email address I will send you the pics of the different sized plates and ramp blocks - tried to post them here, but when I uploaded them they were converted into such small pics they were of no use!
