  1. Simon - did you receive the mail I sent to you directly? Garth atlast
  2. Thanks for the comments John . My budget will not stretch to the tillets, but I will go for the leather seats, the track rollover bar and the race harness. Did you look at the quick release Simon was talking about? It looks fantastic. I am hoping CC deliver on time as I have booked 2 weeks leave to try and do the bulk of the build with my son - Sam - during the Easter hols!? Sam it the tech wiz, so his other task is going to be photos and the build diary! atlast
  3. Hi Martin The only option I have gone for so far is the starter button - always wanted one of those! Not sure what the standard tyres I am getting are! Ultimately I think I would like two sets of wheels, one for getting to and from places and the other for those track days? If that ever happens? How long did it take you to do your build and are there any pitfalls you can help me avoid? atlast
  4. I did look at the video and it does look fantastic! Are you selling them? I have come across another company doing them (playskool) and they seem to say that they will weld the boss to the top of the existing steering column! Will this all be SVA compliant? What sort of steering wheel can the boss accept? atlast Edited by - Garth on 11 Feb 2010 19:47:03
  5. Simon that quick release looks very impressive! Amazingly pricey too! Have you played with one? atlast
  6. Calling Simon Rogers....you sent me an e-mail suggesting I look at a link regarding the steering wheel, but there was no link to go to! If you look at this again please send it to me! Thanks. Can anybody tell me if the holes in the chassis are the same for the standard and leather seats? Do the holes come pre-drilled? Perhaps I should continue reading the build manual ! Why would one go for the Caterham 4 point seat belts when one can buy similar ones for half the price? atlast
  7. My Roadsport 125 kit is allegedly in production 😬for delivery at the end of March. Since ordering it I have obtained permission to spend a few more pennies so want to upgrade the following: 1. Steering wheel for the quick release Momo 2. Seats to leather 3. Rollover bar for a track day one 4. Seatbelts to a 4 point harness Is it best to just order the extra items from CC and then substitute them when I do the build? Should I look to other manufactures for the seats and race harness? Should I get in touch with CC and get them to make the changes now? The only thing which I suspect is not a straight forward swap is the steering wheel as the Momo has the horn on the dash? Thanks atlast

    Sissors lifts

to spiderlane..perhaps we could think about sharing one for our builds? just not sure how we would overlap..? atlast

    Sissors lifts

It is a bit expensive I agree ☹️..but it is available in the UK. See the link in my first post and also Rattie's comments. I think Caterham should invest in a few and then hire them out to people doing self builds! I am seriously considering buying one to help make the build easier and spare my back! Would still love to try and find a second hand one! atlast

    Sissors lifts

*cool*Rattie very kindly showed me his build this last weekend - it was very impressive and they have got a fantastic setup . He is using a sissors lift and I think it is a real plus. I have spent far to long on the net trying to find one for hire or a second hand one to buy! Any ideas would be welcome! You can see it here. There appear to be one or two variations of it on the market, but they seem hard to find ☹️? atlast

The sissors lift is a real plus.I have spent far to long on the net trying to find one for hire or a second hand one to buy! Any ideas would be welcome! Am self employed but since I have started on Blatchat I am struggling to concentrate on work and have spent most of my time looking at build diaries (you guys have put me in touch with!) and starting to get myself organised for the build! Will not pay the bills sadly atlast

Thanks Peter The stands look great. I have normal Axle stands, but yours look much more useful. I will be in touch. atlast

    New Build

Thanks for your posts John! It will be the 'traditional ?' green with a yellow nose band and stripe. You guys are whetting my appetite terribly and all I want to do now is drive it - but point taken about enjoying the build - I am planning to try and build as much as possible over the Easter holidays (assuming Caterham deliver as promised?) during my boy's hols..my holiday has already been booked! I have not gone for many options at this stage as I see from the Caterham prices that it does not cost much more to buy the items separately! So my cunning (!) plan is to upgrade seats, wheels and one or two other items and set aside the originals for use in a second build which I am hoping I will be able to do more cheaply buying the chassis only and then sourcing other bits from elsewhere? 😬 Some dweam ❗ The only option I had to have was the push start button - always wanted one of those I see from some of the build diaries that some are built on some form of car lift - does this make much difference for access and a stiff back? Whatever happens will now be on the lookout for some old carpet to cover the concrete floor! Racking my brain as to the meaning of POBC??!

    New Build

Wow thanks for all the interest..it is going to take a while to look at it and digest it all (and work out what some of it means! - particularly the 'socket wotsits'!). We could unfortunately only afford a lowly Roadsport 125 SV, but am sure it will be great fun nonetheless and when that fat cheque arrives in the post one day it will be time for the second build!?

    New Build

Am expexting my Caterham to arrive in bits at the end of March for a self build with my son (I hope!). We have started looking through Caterham's build manual, but would love some first hand help/advice/pointers/tips etc from others as to what else we should be doing to prepare for the build now. It would also be great to be able to visit a garage to see a 'work in progress'? Are there any other build guides out there worth getting? Any comments welcome...? PS not familiar with these forums, how do you insert a smilie? atlast
