  1. Just for the fun of it, I put a digital temp sensor inside the plenum chamber on my duratec 175. It's places just downstream of the butterfly and it runs a ten degrees hotter than the air temp when running at speed. When stuck in a traffic jam, it quickly goes up to 30 degrees or higher that outside temp (67 is the highest I've seen).
  2. Thanks for that Jim. I have the exact same setup and problem. I tried to do what you have done but didn't succeed in my modifications. I will try again now with based on your ideas. Regarding the pictures, why don't you create an account with the execllent photobox.co.uk, upload the pictures and give us a link to them?
  3. Not that it will help you in any way but it sometimes (three or four times so far) happens on my 175 Duratec but only for a second or two when canging gear. I have never manage to reproduce it while stationary so I have no idea where the trouble is located.
  4. i have an update on this. My odometer passed the 2000 mark and yes, it did switch from "999" to display "1000". However, the same problem happened when passing the 1100 mark. It complete ignored it and went from 1099 to 1000. I know its good for insurance puposes and resale value but I don't want something that doesn't work. Time to return it to caterham?
  5. just out of general interest, did the exhaust wrapping make much difference?
  6. How come you lose power with an airbox? Aren't they supposed to increasing the pressure of the incoming air and therefor increase the power output?
  7. I have done 1800 and mine too shows /800, just like it did before I passed the 1000 mile mark. I have wanted to onvestigate but thinking I'll wait till I get to 2000 and see what happens. Can let you know on Sunday.
  8. My new RS175 does it when I use the horn!
  9. "triangular vents towards the front of the footwell"??? I can't recall seeing any of these on my RS175 SV. Are they connected to the heater?
  10. I noticed a little bit of it too but closing the vents themselves takes care of it.
  11. One one my rear calipers was completely unwound when I got it from CC. I couldn't wind it back myself so I returned it to CC to sort out. Didn't have any problems after that.
  12. You know how brushed aluminum comes in two variant; straight brush strokes or overlapping circular "roses". What is the term for the circular style?
  13. Firstly: I think you will find that the handbook says that you should keep the revs below 4000 for the first 600 miles. Not sure how important it is but I'm sticking religiously to it (current at 598 miles!). Secondly: choking on low revs seems to be a common problem with the 175 duratec when it's really hot and it has been parked for a little while. Mine does it too but it clears away after a few minutes. I think it's just an issue of the air intake being a hot part of the engine bay and hot air is less dense and therefor doesn't contain as much oxygen as cold air. Perhaps a scoop would be a good idea (but ugly).
  14. The Roadsport 175 is sold as 175 BHP but when looking in the handbook there is no such thing as a 175bhp model. The 2.0 Duratec with single butterfly and plenum chamber is quoted to have 210bhp. Any ideas why? I obviously would like to believe the handbook but life is never that simple.
  15. I have exactly the same thing on my brand new Duratec 175. No idea why.
  16. I couldn't fit either of my front ones but CC fixed during post-build checkup. Don't ask me how.
  17. I asked but he said the could say... A few days probably.
  18. Also, the inspector was a bit annoyed with me having 120 miles on the clock on an unregistred vehicle.... 😬
  19. Martin, Sorry, I don't have the name of the lady who told me so but she was adamant so I did drive out there a earlier today and had my two minute inspection. It was just a check of the chasssis number and engine number. The guys said that I wasn't allowed to drive it there but I told him to stuff it and have his staff retrained, if that was the case. They can't give out contradicting advice. That shut him up and I drove home with a clear consience. On the status of legality, I'm confused. I understand that there are exception to the rule that says you must display a valid tax disk such as theft etc. I have registered my vehicle and I have paid my road tax so if the DVLA decides to spend the next weeks/months/years processing their papers then I would say that it's their problem not mine. I think the police would tend to agree, don't you?
  20. I had a lady at the Borehamwood office who insisted that I am allowed to driver it there for the inspection. Everyone else tells me that you can't.
  21. Did mine in Edmonton recently. They said they never done one before! I passed with flying colours.
  22. Update: switching the battery leads around made all the difference. I now got power to lights, instrument, fuel pump etc. However, nothing happens when I press the starter button. I suspect I got my leads the wrong way around somewhere. Can anyone confirm the following? Battery negative to red lead to starter solenoid to brown lead to altenator. And battery positive to black lead to chassis loom that disappears under the scuttle. Fred
  23. I am confused about this too. AG says "connect red lead from starter to battery". Well, it would help toknow which pole of the battery. Connecting it to plus does absoluetly nothing. Connecting it to minus makes the ignition and everything work but blows the fuse when pressing the starter button. Im not sure but doesn't red usually mean positive and black negative? 24. sounds like you need a new fuel pump to me.
