  1. I can't seem to fing the water rail nor the "large L shaped hose" that it should connect to. Is it not used anymore or am I really missing something here? Also, what pupose does the water rail serve? Fred
  2. The assembly guide reads: "locate the engine earth lead, a black lead approx 300mm long" and attach it to the rubber engine mounting block. Where the hll do I find this lead? On theengine? On the chassis? In a box somewhere? Fred
  3. There is a oblong one inch whole at the top of the bell housing where the clutch hose comes out. Is this hole not supposed to be closed up somehow? Water, dirt and stuff could get in there. Pic here.
  4. Thanks Andy. How did he notice it? Was it leaking or just loose?
  5. Thanks Martyn, but there is no mentioning about a gasket or silicone between the gearbox and the bellhousing so why bother with it?
  6. The standard assembly guide has a section on attaching the gearbox to the bellhousing but excuse a newbie here; it looks to like the bellhousing has already been attached to the engine on the duratec. Or am I completely stupid? The r400 assembly guide doesn't mention this at all.
  7. Got different answers from different product websites. Please advice. It's for the bell housing gasket.
  8. problem solved. yes, it is the four pot caliper and it does swing down nicely. The pin doesn't have a hole and a R pin, it just has a black, circular spring around a grove at the end. The whole can be tapped into position without too much problem. Any ideas on the black, metal (anti squal?) cover? It's marked with a big arrow, is it a fair assumption that the arrow should be pointing up, not down? bad photo here
  9. The assembly guide kindly points out that the brake pads should be fitted prior to the wing stays. I assume this is because one of the pins can't be inserted with the stay in place but that leaves a couple of questions. 1. Basic one, what do I need to do? Copperlip on the back and slide in place, right? What about the pin? It has a small clip on it, should that used somehow? 2. If the pin can't be inserted with the wing stay in place, does that mean that I have to remove the stay whenever I replace the pads in a distant future?
  10. When using a sling to lift the engine into place, an engine hoist and a sling is recommended. Does anyone know how long a sling I should buy? 2,3,4,5 meters?
  11. Found a pretty good way of doing it. Insert a slightly smaller allen key (or a smaller bolt) and align the damper so that the allen key slides easily through to the hidden nut on the other side. Carefully remove the allen key without moving the spring/damper unit and replace it with the bolt that now should be aligned with the threads and screw it in with your extra long, ball headed allen key from Halfords.
  12. Thanks. I got one of them after only 15 minutes but the other one has resisted for two hours now. I hate the bloody thing.
  13. Thanks Martin. Some useful info in there. It's the skin that's the problem, it's just a matter of aligning the "exit" hole of the bush with the hole in the chassis. I'll try the Caterham suggestion tomorrow.
  14. I got problem with one of the spacer bushes (10 mm ID x 1/2" OD x 35 mm). The left one fitted like a glove but the right one is to big or the hole is too small. I measured the outside of it to be 1/2" exactly but the inner diameter on the rear bush is only 11.5 mm. Any clever ideas?
  15. I can't seem to get the M8 cap head bolt through the top of the front suspension. It goes through most of the way but how can I line it up with hole on the other side. I tried wiggling it around but ran out of patience and four letters words. Picture here: http://www.frippsphotos.com/fripp/new/image.csp?filename=car2/images/IMG_0213.jpg
  16. Thanks. Two washers either side makes sense but there are three strange text boxes underneath the picture in the AG that says "wide track 0 washer" and "wide track 4 washer". Both in singular, not in plural. An error or are they they talking about part number zero and four?
  17. Am I correct in understanding that the assembly guide refers to wide track suspension having four washers on one side of the the wishbone and none on the other side? Seems a bit odd. Also, are all SVs wide track?
  18. Should one apply copper grease to all bolts and screws just to be safe or only when it is indicated to do so by the assembly guide?
  19. Why is it that the only Assembly Guide I can download from Caterham is for the the Sigma? I got a Duratec, are the no differences?
  20. Just out of interest: what the pros and cons of a mechanical pressure gauge over an electrical one?
  21. Thanks Gavin but I didn't mean them ugly ones. I'm talking about a nice, clean single stalk coming out perpendicular from the windscreen frame. Maybe five to seven inches.
  22. I have seen some cars with their wing mirrors mounted on 7 inch stalk attached to the windscreen frame. it seem like a good idea compared to mounting them on the flimsy doors (assuming you can still open the doors). Does anyone know where to get them?
  23. With regards to the standard steering wheel you get from Caterham (not the detachable Momo job): Does it come in a black and a metal finish? Is it something I should specify before taking delivery?
