  1. That's spooky - I saw one too whilst out on a blat round Colchester. And without all the back to the future gubbins on too. Was the only 'interesting' car I saw which was surprising given the weather. Cheers David
  2. Cookni - just realised you are in Essex. So am I! In Colchester If you want to meet up sometime that would be cool. Dave Edited by - Lotus Boy on 8 Aug 2009 09:12:01
  3. My two penneth as a fellow VX owner. Car has always been on Comma Syner-G 5w/40 which is the recommended (by Caterham), except for one fill at 5w30 GM's own synthetic. I don't think running a 5w30 would be an issue. Agree though that Mobil 1 is probably too thin. The Mobil Motorsport oil is 15w50 and favoured by some of those who upgrade their VX's. I have switched to a mech OPG (Think Automotive - speak to Matthew Potter) but only because I have had two failures of Caterham's hopeless gauges/senders. Glad I have done it now though. As Paul says, a good thing to do is do the SBD mod (soz but no time for linky but easy search on here) which modifies the cam cover to stop oil failing through the inlet when cornering hard. Was a GM eco design but is designed for the engine when mounted tranversely. Simple job (can send you some pics of mine and info if you need it) and stops those heart stopping moments of seeing massive plumes of smoke pour out of the exhaust! Cheers Dave
  4. Can anyone recommend a place to take a tin top for a 4 wheel alignment please? Is it ok to take the car, a Saab 9-5 not that that should make any difference, to a chain outfit such as kwik fit or is it better to find some sort of specialist? Cheers Dave
  5. I'll leave it for now Jase but thanks anyway Cheers Dave
  6. Engine not running. yep figured that one out Starter motor live terminal - yes I see now. bet that isn't a mistake you do twice eh Cheers though Aves, thanks for the info, all very useful and most helpful Dave
  7. AVES - that's quite an impressive achievement given the two components are seemingly unrelated or connected. I trying but struggling to work out what sort of sequence of events lead to that To confirm then, before I start undoing bolts - do I need to drain the engine of oil or, if I don't, will there be some loss of oil when I remiove the OPRV? cheers Dave
  8. Jouko, If, after investigating, you need to replace the gauge and/or sender it is well worth considering switching to a mechanical oil pressure gauge. I have had two faulty senders in the last fours years so switched to a Mech OPG. Only cost approximately £55 for everything you need from Think Automotive and well worth doing . At least you will never have to worry or wonder if the gauge/sender is telling lies. Cheers Dave
  9. Thanks for the info AVES. Very good to know, though ever so slightly worried about your PITA to fit comment. My mechanical/technical skill and knowledge usually runs out after 'Step 1. Undo bolt' and find myself stranded and needing help 😬 Always willing to have a go though , so I may have a look over the weekend. Should I expect any loss/seepage of oil when I take the OPRV out? Mark - did you remove/fit yourself. Did you find in the PITA that AVES says it is? Cheers Dave
  10. Hi Jase, What condition is it in and whereabouts are you based? Anywhere near Essex? cheers Dave
  11. Hi Mark, Have you solved your orv problem yet? I ask as I have the same problem. Is the orv easily accessible and straightforward to remove/replace. Someone said the orv may be inside the oil pump but think he was just generalising. Cheers Dave
  12. Ah completely misunderstood. Sorry Cheers Dave
  13. Mickrick - I will ask Russell next time I speak/see him Cheers Dave
  14. Hi Mark, Could this be a goer for you??? Brand new. See bottom of the thread. here Cheers Dave Edited by - Lotus Boy on 26 Jun 2009 19:08:25
  15. Ammo, If your other two are 6x13 I have an idea. JaseB takes the two 7x13's and I take one 6x13 and Mark takes the other 6x13 who is looking here £90 for Jase, £45 each for me and Mark. Bob's your uncle, everyone's happy! Collection won't be a problem for me . Work in Ipswich Cheers Dave
  16. Hi SM25T, Thank you. Ha, thankfully I won't be having to take my own photographs! It is on the 4th October this year...and actually quite looking forward to it! 😬 Cheers David
  17. Yes that is the plan Though suspect I wil have to put the hood up for the journey so as not to 'ruin' jen's hair 😬
  18. Hi Stew, Would have replied earlier but have been busy in the garage applying a 3 stage polish, sealant and wax process to the bodywork 😬 Cheers LB
  19. Hi Martin. Were you having fun on the Burnham bends? 😬. See you at the next Essex meet perhaps? Cheers Dave
  20. I too went for a Mocal gauge from Think Auto. Really a very nice instrument and blends in nicely though it doesn't illuminate as well as the others for some reason. Cheers Dave
  21. Saw a tidy looking 7 parked up I Ipswich last week. Grabbed a couple of pics on the phone. I work just round the corner from where it was parked. here here Must say hello if you are local Cheers Dave
  22. ...and it is definitely not tappets? The C20XE can be prone to noisy hydraulic lifters. One (or more) of my tappets is noisy when the engine is cold sometimes and makes an annoying tick tick tick sound, though I guess that is more of a tappetty tappetty rather than ouff puff noise. Never lasts more than a couple of mins and then goes at some point when I am on the move. Just a thought anyway. Dave
  23. Now you are talking. Fabulous indeed. I got to drive one when I was 18 courtesy of a friend. Simply awesome and huge road presence. Love these cars. Don't really seem them now unless at events so a good spot! Cheers Dave
  24. Is this kenny's old car? (orange lucozade colour ) If so then you have a lovely example there. Lucky git Dave
  25. Ali & BRG 7 - waved to you as we went through Newton Green and then saw you in Lavenham with a passenger. We were in the bright red Seven. Lovely day for it. Think I saw another driving out of Lavenham - dark red/burgundy but could be mistaken. Cheers Dave
