  1. Quoting wingnutLP: I don't use the crotch strap as I can't see how it will go round teh seat pad and it doesn't seem to be able to fit through the seat. The way I do it is lift out the seat base, pull up the crotch strap, replace seat base so the crotch strap emerges from between the backrest/seat base and lays over the top of the seat base and then place your crotch on top of it. Adjusting it just right is a bit trial and error but eventually you get there.
  2. I have always enjoyed a good horn and installed Hella Supertones on my seven. Nicely loud for getting peoples attention. Was great help in forcing some painfully slow Porsche driver off track at my last track day 😳 😬
  3. Hmmm.....2.5L Duratec? I have not seen anyone offerring crate engines of those yet so figured there were not enough donors out there to create supply? I could do with more horsepower in my situation....very interesting idea.
  4. Quoting duffield: Hi Croc, Thanks for that, I must say it does look diferent. That looks some machine you have there? I can see you have some type of undertray beneath the tank and maybe something at the sides. Have you any more details on that? Andrew What you see is actually a "CSR" diffuser from Reverie. On one of the circuits I run at, under certain wind conditions, the CSR was lifting off over a hump on the back straight and scaring me silly . The diffuser was one thing I did to increase downforce. Despite what Reverie said it being an easy install it needed substantial modification and cut outs to allow the IRS to deflect under load as Reverie thought a CSR was the same as an SV. It certainly smooths out airflow under the car but I am doubtful on the aero benefit? Still it does look good! here and here If you are looking for other expensive ideas then maybe read through the build thread from USA7s - apologies in advance to your wallet! 😬 here Edited by - Croc on 2 Dec 2012 16:57:14
  5. This is how my CSR was originally for a rear fog and reversing light hung off the underside of a chassis tube as I did not want to mark the ali at the time and I had ideas of looking for a better solution: here Then after 6 months SM25T pointed out the better solution for replacing the caravan lights with the Car Builder Solution slimline lights: here here Edited by - Croc on 2 Dec 2012 15:10:16
  6. If you are thinking RST V8 then cost is no object and the Hartley V8 would be in the same market: here There is a similar style of V8 engine being done in NZ - Synergy: here I think the V6 you might be thinking of was a RST option 🤔 Edited to fix links Edited by - Croc on 15 Nov 2012 16:09:22

    R 400

That will be Dave LeBrun's place in Waterloo NY which is just down the road from Seneca Falls.

    F1 Exhaust

I am in the UK currently and have no problems watching it through the hotel broadband. Works for me
  9. I do drive my CSR (with swoopy dash) without the doors for exactly the reasons you describe - to keep it cool enough to enjoy. I use it with windscreen and modified perspex wind wings (bent further to stand out from the body more). Sometimes I use the SBFS half hood and other times not depending on my fancy. It is much cooler and more comfortable than with the doors. Yes the car is like a gravel pit afterwards but I really have not been hit much by any stones - none that count anyway. As for using the aeroscreen...my perspective. Heading home from work last Friday on the highway at 70mph, a 3 feet steel pipe of 1 inch diameter was kicked up by a lorry and hit my Audi A4 wrapping itself around the A-pillar at face level, smashing in the windscreen and driver side window on top of me with one end coming to rest embedded in the drivers headrest. I had somehow instinctively dived below the dash when I saw it coming. However, I now have some nice scarring over my eye and side of face from the glass gashing me. The policeman 3 cars back from me who saw it said I was lucky not to be impaled through the face. If I had been in the seven - windscreen or aeroscreen - I would have been fine in this instance as the object would have passed over the car. If the object had been lower, neither windscreen or aeroscreen would have offerred any protection to me. So I am totally in agreement with the two Steve's above - throw the dice and take your chances.

    Wind deflector

I bought mine on Ebay UK from a seller "Barbarav1959" She was making them along with shower caps. Works very well .
  11. My previous seven was the 2L zetec. It was also running the ex-Focus standard ECU. Engine used standard Focus intake system and fuel injection. I had a similar sounding "stuttering" issue on take off early on in my ownership. Final diagnosis was a damaged throttle spring/cable that did not operate smoothly on light throttle application. Worked fine once I replaced both.
  12. I have used RaceRender and Dashware. RaceRender supports the merging of several videos. Dashware has nicer lookiing dashboard overlays. Both are about the same cost which is cheaper than Trackvision.
  13. Sounds like you had a productive day! All the important things in life are decided! 😬 I suspected that was going to be the answer for the diff struts as mine came already installed but was not sure if UK spec cars were the same. I would still swap you for your insurance cost - mine is a good 25% more than you are being quoted. Admittedly, sevens in NYC are not a good combination...
  14. Its so much fun browsing option lists and trying to spec out a new seven. Its even more fun when its someone elses money! 😬 Quoting StuC: The track day roll bar was on my original spec sheet, but the Caterham boys talked me out of it because I will use the car on the road a lot. They said rearward visibility would be very poor. It certainly seemed to be quite constrained, but then again, do CSR drivers ever need to check their rear view mirrors? I would ignore the nice salesman here and spec the track day bar. I see it as an onroad safety item just as much as a track safety item. If you are going to do a track day 1-2 times a year then I would say install it now anyway for piece of mind. The rearward visibility is partially obscured but not enough to really annoy you or be concerned. I deal with a lot of overtaking moves on me on highways around NYC and I have not found visibility to be a problem with the track day roll bar. With the convex spa mirrors mounted on each side of the windscreen then you have covered most blind spots. ETA - Oops I am so slow to post I just got overtaken by Steve! 15. Congratulations - I love my CSR. Warp speed is so addictive. 😬 I have the 6 spd and enjoy it - would not swap it. However, some believe the power/torque of the Duratec means that you do not need the extra gear and that the 5 speed is better for road as 5th gear is an overdrive. I can see the merit in that. Paul will be along shortly to plead his case for this In real life for me it is generally not an issue as the only time I feel I need it is motorway transits from home to my local circuit. I would check which diff ratio you will get. That makes a difference in the gearbox decision. Mine is a 3.62 and is a little too short for some types of track work - I would like a little more top speed if I had my time again selecting ratios. I have an LSD in my car which is used for the same purpose as you are aiming in yours. I would specify it as my experiences have all been positive for having it. I would not bother about curvy dash again myself. Standard dash is cooler for temperatures as the duratec pumps out a lot of heat. I would take the lowered floors though. If they do not come standard then I would specify the extra race diff struts as this reinforces a weak point in the CSR design. If you are looking for ideas to spend more money then try my build pages here for base spec and then the various modifications I did later. Edited by - Croc on 4 Aug 2012 14:32:21
  16. 😬 I have done that except it was Paterson NJ. Not the best place to run out of fuel. Did you get caught in any of the storms that moved through? Jonathan - Sorry to (slightly) spoil your excellent humor but Billy Joel was singing about Allentown Pennsylvania!
  17. But Tom, with the 10+ coats of clear coat you put on those wings they now weigh more than the rest of the car!
  18. Who would think this is just 30 miles from Manhattan: http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/DSC_2767_edited-1.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/DSC_2773_edited-1.jpg
  19. Was casually browsing "Spotted" and wondered if anyone has ever spotted me in New York City. Sure enough Steve has spotted me in my favourite stomping ground of Bear Mountain in my old yellow zetec. A bit late to respond but I will claim it anyway. 😬
  20. No that is not right. My CSR handled well out of the box on the correct UK factory settings applied by Caterham USA through a 4 wheel alignment process. So it is not a lawsuit prevention thing. I think it was either not set up by Caterham USA or someone has been trying to set up the car without the right settings. Most likely it was not built by Caterham USA? Set up specs from Caterham UK used by Caterham USA for CSR260s are a PDF attachment halfway down my build thread page here. They can also set it up with lower ride heights if you are not on the road much. If he wants another CSR260 owner to talk to blatmail me. There are only 9-10 of us in the US. 21. Hi Tom - that is what I was trying to say but I guess I mangled it like most things I do - cars, household repairs, women, etc.
  22. My CSR has self cancelling indicators
  23. I swear by this on my current and past seven. Its not a cheap solution but it works really well and I do really need the side mirrors with it.
  24. Its a good excuse to invest in shift lights....go on...you know you want to
  25. Sounds like Morgan Segal who has an orange seven in those parts. Goes by mopho on a bunch of websites. here
