  1. Oh, well done Hanns Per, and thanks for the information. It just makes me think that's something else I need to worry about.
  2. #8 John, I was in a similar situation when my front CR500 s had cracks in the side wall, but the rears were fine. I got in touch with Avon about replacing, but they had none in stock and were waiting before making the last batch of CR500. I asked about leaving the CR500 on the rear and putting ZZS on the front. Avon strongly recommended against it.

    360 - 420

"...makes me grin like a loon." There's a very good reason for that, Mossy.
  4. If and when you come to consider Premier Power, Stuart is well worth having a chat with. Approachable, friendly, and knowledgeable.
  5. Apologies to Rich 420R if this is dragging the discussion off topic, but... I had my engine "refreshed" by Caterham. To their eternal credit, they did it under warranty. I asked them if I could pay to have it remapped while they had the car, but they refused and, unless I completely misunderstood, told me they do not do mapping.
  6. I've found that using the sticky strip down the sides, the strip is eventually pushed out of place as the bonnet vibrates, so after a thousand miles or so, the strip is sticking out of the sides and the bonnet is rubbing on the sides again.
  7. Very nice. But you say your Caterham ECU was not locked?
  8. #2 Aero, correct me if I'm wrong, but the Cateham map is a generic one. Caterham don't, and wont, actually map for the individual car on a RR. And the Caterham ECU is locked, so cannot be mapped by another tuner. Why they only provide locked ECUs is another question to ask at the Webinar.

    Paint

I usually use Hammerite satin black for touching up suspension bits. It seems to match quite well. They do it in pots and spray cans.

I too thought of Dent, Arthur Dent. Perhaps Colin Grant was vapourised by a Vogon construction fleet before he could ask his question.

Or a version of Mornington Crescent?

Is this one of those Victorian parlour games?
  13. "You can then regulate the noise to your preferred level using insulting tape to cover some of the speaker holes" That didn't work well on my wife.
  14. "...the heat is not causing an issue as such, merely my children commenting on it" Perhaps if you let the children travel in the cockpit, rather than keeping them under the bonnet.
  15. Tom, there is. Sugru https://sugru.com/what-is-sugru I've used it. It comes in small packets and you get a piece about the size of a lump of chewing gum, but it's damned expensive. Though there are other, cheaper, makes available if you look up 'mouldable plastic'. I use the rubber sticky strip. But I have also wondered about the black sealer I've used to seal guttering. The bits that are left on the outside of the nozzle harden into a fairly strong lump. Flexible, but doesn't break down. I've also thought of applying it in the manner JonT suggests.

    310R vs 420R

Stuart at PP is very helpful. As for "a bit too fast for road use", I keep saying we're a club full of megalomaniacs, all wanting more power. If you go for a 310, what power do you want PP to bring it up to? How does that compare with a 420, if you're thinking it'll come to 420 money anyway?
  17. "...standard Lucas pair of high and low note horns" Does that mean they're twin tone? If so, I thought all twin tone air horns were illegal in the UK. And IF I'm correct about that, when were they standard?

    VYNAL WRAP

Oh, I say. That's rather smart.

    Underseal

Like Stu above, on my first 7 I bought some 5mm neoprene which I stuck on the inside of the wheel arches for protection from stones. Someone suggested Isoflex because they'd heard that neoprene just traps water behind it. I'm trying the isoflex on this car, but even put on thick, it doesn't give me confidence about the degree of protection from stones.
  20. Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but have you tried Redline Components? He does stock of bits bak to the 60s, so he's worth a try. He's very knowledgable and very helpful. 01883 346515
  21. Welcome, Derek. I thought that underside looked infuriatingly clean. Mind you, so does Mrp's.
  22. Those horns look damned clean and fancey. What are they?
  23. Welcome and good luck with the search.

    Tool kit

"...a very nice chap polishing his classic car" Is there a way of getting these to show up on a SatNav, so we can plan our breakdowns properly?
