  3. #10, Oily. Oh, cracking site, Oily. Thanks.
  4. #6, Tom, please tell me more about that perspex side screen. Did you make it yourself?
  5. T'rific video. Well done. Nicely paced. Very reassuring. Very encouraging.
  6. I considered it for some time, then chickened out of the whole thing. I decided to buy a new track day roll bar with a car attached. And I'm only half joking.

Oh, aye! Go down everyone's throats when they're being chummy, and only then do you stick your real name down! There's a Gulf opening up in this relationship, and I know whose fault it is!

Three things, following on. 1. Interesting to note that the bloke who ran the Get To Know Your 7 course I attended was Simon Lambert, Caterham's Chief Motorsport & Technical Officer, who starred on our recent webinar with Caterham, shortly to be available online, so I couldn't really ask for a better source. 2. If you are testing the pressure and don't have a whizzy bit of kit, I can recommend the RaceX 0014 tyre pressure gauge. Accurate to within 3%, inexpensive (£11.50) and small, so it doesn't take up much space in your boot. My predecessor in this role, Geoff Brown, wrote a piece about it in Lowflying, which is what prompted me to buy one. Here's the link for his article:- http://lowflying.lotus7.club/2016/2016_06_06_Pressure.pdf You can get them at Opie Oils, where you can also use the Club's discount, here:- https://www.lotus7.club/membership/special-offers-members/opie-oils 3. I had my car mapped at Northampton Motorsport after a Caterham did an "engine refresh" for me (which sounded to me more like a full engine rebuild). Troy at Northampton let me in while he did the Rolling Road run, and I noticed he had a nice thermal imager, so took the opportunity to use it to measure the inner, middle and outer rear tyre temperatures whilst it was on the roller. As their RR has a single roller, I assume it better reflects the heating you'd get on the real road. It was really interesting to observe the temperatures change at different points across the thread as the tyre heated up.

Right. Avon have come back to me. I had contacted Avon anyway about the service they can provide, so shall post about that in a day or so on a separate thread and on Member Benefits. What Avon have told me, however, is that for my CSR (fat and heavy), 22 psi (cold) all round would be the ideal. The reason they state higher pressures on the guide I gave the link to, is that they also provide ZZS for other, heavier sports cars, so the pressures are for them. Gulfie, yes, as stated, 18psi is what CC usually recommend as per the GTKY7 course, along with letting the pressures out if the heat generated on track takes them over 24psi. At the time I had an SV Roadsport, not my heavier CSR. In my notes from the day I've written:- "18 PSI fine for road. Track day when hot should be around 24 PSI"
  12. Can you provide a link for that particular mesh, Stewart? It doesn't look like the sort of flyscreen stuff I've seen. It looks more like the material for proper pouches, fisherman's waistcoats, military webbing, etc.. Thought of going into business?
  13. I tried Alastair about some graphics, towards the end of last year. All was going well in planning it, then he just stopped replying.
  14. Thank you, Stewart, I shall refer this to The Boss, my curtains advisor. She's often talking about there being curtains for me, but I've never been quite sure what she meant. Stephen, she's tried the scarf thingy. Unless its clamped in place by the intercom headset, it only seems to work for Grace Kelly, driving around the hills of Monte Carlo at a sedate pace. Besides which, she only complains that I don't look like Cary Grant!

Interesting one, this. Here's Avon's table on this page with the tyre pressures they recommend. https://www.avontyres.com/en-gb/tyres/zzs You'll see they give different pressures depending on the tyre size. From my Get to Know Your 7 course at Caterham, they usually recommend 18psi (cold) all round.t Caterham fited a set of ZZS to my CSR when I bought it from them. My tyres are 245/40R15 on the rear and 195/50R15 on the front. Caterham said they should be 24psi (CSR's are fat and heavy by 7 standards). You can see from Avon's chart, however, that they recommend 22psi rear and 30psi front! So, I've emailed Avon to ask, got a phone call back from a nice bloke called Adam, who is looking into it and has promised to get back to me. In the meantime, I'm running at 23psi all round, 'cos at 24psi, the ZZR is so tight a fit, it scrapes the leading edge of the CSR front wings.
  16. #6, Stewart, Yours looks like it might be more easily stowed away. Please could you supply more details. Does the screen have any curtain wire in the sides, or only top and bottom? I can't see from the picture how you used curtain hooks for the bottom. Are you able to provide close up piccies?
  17. #7, Stephen, now your being silly! None of those scarves go with my (bloodshot) eyes!
  18. Exactly. Not just a higher profile, but also fatty sidewalls - hence the concise technical description by we tyre technologists as "Ballooney".
  19. When you do change them, just be aware that the ZZS is a bit more "Ballooney" than the CR500. When I first had new ZZS on I got a bit of some toe-rag's sticky snack paper stuck on the. I could hear it scrape on every revolution. You might have to do a little judicious 'persuading' if your present clearance is +/- 'only just'.
  20. Welcome, Cedric. I hope you enjoy your new old 7 soon.
  21. Prostate Cancer Research. Transforming research, transforming lives. Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed male cancer in the UK, with an average of 130 people diagnosed every day. Globally, an average of 1.3 million men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. Caught early, prostate cancer is treatable and unlikely to cause problems - most men die with prostate cancer rather than from prostate cancer. However, it is when prostate cancer spreads that it becomes significantly more dangerous and effective treatments are needed. The way prostate cancer is currently treated brings physical and mental side-effects. The disease cuts too many lives short and steals away precious time. The unfortunate truth is that over 13,000 men died from prostate cancer in the UK in 2018, and this number is predicted to increase by 59% to 20,922 in 2035. Yet funding for prostate cancer, particularly advanced stage, is limited and decreasing. Between 2016/17 and 2017/18 there was a 13.5% decrease in money spent on prostate cancer in the UK, and prostate cancer receives only 8% of the funding spent on specific cancer sites. Patients urgently need breakthrough treatments, and research is the only way to turn this hope into a reality. That is where Prostate Cancer Research (PCR) takes pole position on the track to improving patient’s lives. We focus on funding research into new treatments and gaining a deeper scientific understanding of the disease, particularly on the cancer’s more advanced stages – where there is no cure. PCR exists to add years to life, and life to years for patients and families. Our aim finish line is a future where people are free from the impact of prostate cancer, and we won’t rest until we achieve this. When you think about it, racing and medical research offer a few similarities. Nigel Mansell’s personal assessment was absolutely relevant to PCR when he said, ‘I think life is full of challenges…It's not a bed of roses, and you have to work real hard at it’. We also believe that to perform at your best takes skill, passion, commitment, innovative ideas, considered investment and funding. Both on and off the track, there are obstacles and challenges, and a successful team must overcome these to succeed. PCR’s skills and experiences are as focused as a successful racing team – our ultimate goal is winning the race to save and improve lives. PCR funds innovative scientists with bold and exciting ideas and who work collaboratively to achieve results. We fund projects that fill gaps in scientific knowledge, with, so they have an targeted impact on the entire medical research field. Our world-class scientists are dedicated to creating innovative brand new treatments with the potential to reduce the side-effects, dramatically cut the cost of treatment and, ultimately, to change the outcome for whole families men. We know that we can make a real difference to the lives of people affected by prostate cancer. The patients’ voice is at the heart of our work. We put prioritise understanding the needs and wishes perspectives of patients and their families first, and involve them directly in our decision-making. This guarantees that our research is relevant to those to whom it matters most. If we act now, the next generation of men won’t have to fear a prostate cancer diagnosis. This is where we need your help: our fundraisers are the beating heart of our charity and we could not continue our vital work without their support. We are a small charity with big ambition, consistently increasing the number of projects we fund to help patients sooner. Currently we fund 11 research projects, but are determined to fund over 20 by 2022. By fundraising for PCR, you can help us to achieve this vision and ensure that we can continue to finance innovative research, support talented scientists who can with the vision to change the future, and help deliver breakthrough medicines and treatments. We would love to welcome you all to #TeamPCR, and work together to fund the research that will ultimately save and improve lives. The Lotus Seven Club can With the flexibility to decide where your fundraising goes, such as supporting a specific project, you can makeing a real difference to the lives of people with prostate cancer. On behalf of PCR’s scientists and patient supporters, we would like to thank you for considering our vital and essential cause. 22. Race Against Dementia: Working faster and smarter, together we can beat dementia Join The Race! Who are Race Against Dementia? Founded in 2016 by Sir Jackie Stewart, following his wife Lady Stewart’s diagnosis with dementia, Race Against Dementia raises and allocates funds to research in the race to find a prevention or treatment for the diseases that cause dementia. Unless something changes, one in three people born today will die with dementia. Over 50 million people worldwide currently have dementia with someone diagnosed every 3 seconds. That’s 50 million families impacted and yet there are currently no disease- modifying treatments. This cannot continue, investment is critically needed. How are we making a difference? The Race Against Dementia (RAD) Fellowship Programme draws from the most promising early career scientific talent around the world. Collaboration and mentoring with forward-thinking organisations in Formula One (e.g. Red Bull Racing and McLaren), as well as other innovative organisations (e.g. Dyson), brings the dynamic attitude, dedication and agility of Grand Prix teamwork to drive results in dementia research. The programme not only accelerates the Fellows’ personal research agendas, but also aspires to catalyse a change in dementia research culture globally. Through partnerships with Alzheimer’s Research UK, the Mayo Clinic and most recently Dementia Australia we now have a team of six researchers with that number set to grow further in 2021. In addition to supporting the science, each Fellow joins the RAD Development Programme benefitting from coaching and development delivered by organisations such as Hintsa Performance who work with elite athletes including many Formula 1 drivers. The overall programme features elements of leadership, teamwork, presentations skills and personal wellbeing geared towards supporting them to reach their potential as leaders in dementia research. Research is expensive, each grant we provide is for up to £500,000, and supports 5 years of research in comparison to the typical 3. See our website for more about how their work is changing the face of dementia research. Partnership, collaboration and how you can help. RAD recognises the importance of collaboration and partnership both through our investments into ground-breaking research and with our fundraisers – Lotus 7 Club is a part of the Race Against Dementia. All charities are facing significant financial challenges following a drop in fundraising and this is no different for RAD. You can help in the race to beat dementia by supporting RAD - not only in fundraising but in raising awareness of the charity. Car clubs are in a unique position of making a difference both within the club and at public events. Every £8.5k raised can fund one month of research. Successful events can include track days, fundraising at meets, auctions, afternoon teas with viewings of Race Against Dementia’s Memories series - a series of conversations with Sir Jackie and his close friends reflecting on and highlighting the importance of their shared memories. Every pound makes a difference, every conversation, every sticker. We need to talk about dementia, it will affect us all in some way. Looking ahead, RAD will be launching our “Drive for Dementia” campaign engaging drivers and clubs to carry our logo and raise awareness. RAD hugely values the contribution of Lotus 7 and are delighted to be given the opportunity to share the progress we have made in such a short time. Please consider supporting Race Against Dementia and should you need any further information or want to talk about what we do in more detail, please do get in touch at clare@raceagainstdementia.com For more information and up to date news, please head to our website, www.raceagainstdementia.com or follow us on social media @racingdementia.
