  1. Alan I had the same problem and I brought the back forward by about 75mm. Lower edge is held forward with aluminium angle brackets and a simple piece of timber covered with vinyl at the top edge. The big bonus is that you then have a reasonably useful stowage area behind the seat. If you're interested, you can pop over and try it and I'll maintain a safe distance, but it's pretty easy to mock up until you get the right position for yourself. Cheers Brian
  2. Hello Alan I have an adjustable Clarke engine stand that you're welcome to borrow Cheers Brian
  3. I came across this information on the web, but I can't vouch for it's accuracy. http://www.super7thheaven.co.uk/components/sierra_rear_differential/
  4. Thanks Jim I'm not concerned about the delay fion touch on the chassis rail but the trailing arm appears to be very close to driveshaft joint housing at this condition, maybe only an inch clearance. This will be a touch condition after maybe only 80mm from full rebound. Travelling at the moment, so can't measure it precisely and finished late in the garage last night when the rugby was beckoning Cheers Brian
  5. Can anyone tell me what the clearance between the de dion upper trailing link to the driveshaft joint casing should be on full rebound with a wide buttress de dion tube? The reason that I state wide buttress de dion tube is that on full rebound (no spriing damper units fitted) the buttress sits on the diagonal chassis members. The car is on build stands at the moment. reason for the question is that I'm rebuilding a car with a mixed collection of parts and the clearance looks to be too small to allow adequate suspension movement before the trailing link will foul. Thanks in advance Brian
  6. Keith I'll take the fan if it's still available Cheers Brian
  7. Good Evening Graham Subject to collection location, I would like to take it - message sent. Cheers Brian
  8. Hi Graham I'm interested, can you send me a picture? Cheers Brian
  9. Be careful readers - the KEY word in the previous post is ...... "or" !!!!
  10. That makes sense - thinned down head similar to seat belt bolts and most probably 3/8" UNF. Additionally, the nice man from Caterham confirmed this morning that they were 3/8" UNF. The reason the heads are thinned is that the steel Sierra hub will contact standard head bolts, hence the suggestion that socket head bolts may work. They don't work on mine BUT they are very close, so I will either "fettle" the socket head diameter or the hub OD. The tight fit when I first tried the 3/8" must be due to residual loctite - I have re-tapped most of the threads but I have a really tight one where I would like to "dissolve" the residual loctite - has anyone got any "good recipes" for dissolving loctite? Cheers Brian
  11. it's the hub that has the female thread into which the bolts screw and I believe this to be a Ford Sierra part. I'm pretty certain it's 3/8" UNF, which may surprise some people as it's a Ford part, but someone out there may have better information. maybe it's not a Ford part??
  12. Does anyone know what size the rear disc bolts are - the ones that fix the disc to the hub. My manual says they are 3/8" UNF but I'm not convinced. The reason is that being Sierra units, I would expect them to be metric BUT a standard M10 does NOT fit. Might they be M10 x 1mm pitch? I have tried 3/8" but they're just a bit tight, which may be due to the hubs having threadlock applied previously. Thanks in advance. Brian

  19. Mark I would like to take this please. Brian
  20. Hi Ian - I'll take that please. Cheers Brian
  21. Any condition driveshafts or parts of driveshafts wanted. I'm in the process of building a pair of driveshafts to suit a Sierra flanged LSD which will end up with a flanged lobro inner joint and a push in tripod outer joint so any bits of a driveshaft will be useful, even a bare shaft. Many thanks in advance.
  22. Hmmm - to add something about registering cars in NI. The DVLA in NI may not necessarily have had the same criteria for registration as in mainland UK at that time ... It was also possible to bring a car to mainland UK and have it's NI plate replaced with a maninland UK equivalent. Also at that time in NI, the rules were not always consistent ...... Does that help any?
