sylvaman Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Whats the general concencus when choosing new door mirrors to fit on "Eccles" style mounts ? Carbon ....That may Discolour / Chip ? As out in the Breeze . Carbon look ? Motamec etc Black Plastic High Impact Nylon(Demon Tweeks) Lower (Base) ball joint Clamp bolt ? On side (more accessible , but ugly) or underneath , not so accessible ? Already decided , Convex is way to go Thinking perhaps ....Start with D.Tweeks High Impact Nylon (black plastic) £42 each ? Chris L
SM25T Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 I wasn't impressed with the design of the SPA mirrors. Easily knocked and two clamp screws loosened. Ditched mine.
Dan R Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 #2 - Have you replaced them with something similar from a different manufacturer?
SM25T Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Large carbon effect convex mirrors from Car Builder Solutions. Pics follow. Proper friction ball head adjustment on a very sturdy arm.
7 wonders of the world Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 I use these available in std / convex plastic or carbon found the SPA ones kept loosening.https://www.motamec.com/motamec-racing-formula-f1-car-wing-mirror-x2-convex-glass-swivel-mount-black.html?SID=uquk7c0n2eltku0fobmess14s0
Dan R Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Is it too much to hope that they fit the SPA mounting holes ????
WobblyWeb Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Navigate around this site, reassuringly expensive - Spa Mirror mounts, to Caterham screen sanctions and Caged roll cage:drp Spa Mirror Mounts
L7 FST Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 Reply to #7: Yes they do - the Motamec is a shameless and excellent copy of the Spa, but even better thanks to the addition of the 'non-slip' screw. Much cheaper too!
rgrigsby Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 #6 they look good, when my current SPA mirros give up (which they are on the way to doing) that seems like a good choice.Any thougths on a centre mirror? I've got an SPA centre mirror mounted on the cage at the moment but the tightening screw has given up so it won't say in position any more. Lots of suggestion to use the Longacre mirror instead.
sylvaman Posted August 19, 2022 Author Posted August 19, 2022 Brilliant Research guys . Thank you .L7 FST. Did you fit Carbon or Black Motamec ? Chris L
John Vine Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 Re #4 and #5:Another vote here for the CBS mirrors. First class (if you don't mind the faux carbon).JV
L7 FST Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 Re #12Chris - I've used Motamecs on all three of my Sevens over the years, either black or carbon 'effect'. But go for real carbon ones, if you can. They're currently available new on eBay for around £100 a pair I think.
sylvaman Posted August 20, 2022 Author Posted August 20, 2022 Thanks All. Took your advice . Ordered Motamec in Carbon . £106 pair ,Ebay. Thanks again.
John Vine Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Re #15:That's a good price. Can you post a link, please?JV
sylvaman Posted August 21, 2022 Author Posted August 21, 2022 Sorry JV, don't know how to add a link, But have Photoshot the Ebay ad. Cheers, Chris

mph Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Ha, love this thread! I only bought some of the Protrustsolutions mirrors last month and already they're being held together with duck tape Rubbish. Motomec ordered
graearea Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 Hi,this isn't really ready for the big-time yet as I haven't sorted out all the pictures, but I'm going to be doing custom 3d printed mirror mounts for the Spa/Mtomec ones.3d printed custom mirror mountsI'll probably finish this page this week and lob it onto the for-sale section
mph Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 John… "They are mounted to your side-screens at 3 points, not 2. That’s 150% better!"*(I'm not about to debate the maths in that claim, it just made me chuckle, that is all)
graearea Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 it originally said 300% better! :D I actually think 300% is correct :D and more important, funnier. there. changed it back.
BigCol Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 I've the Car Builder Solutions mirrors (see #4) on the stanchions of my windbreak and real carbon Motomec mirrors (see #6) on the aeroscreen. Both significantly better and easier to adjust than Spa mirrors.
NoisyBDR Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 Not the cheapest solution, but I found this is great and stops them coming loose and moves the buttom grub screw to a spanner bit that is easily reachable.https://parts.dpr-motorsport.com/contents/en-uk/p107
