Stationary M25 Traveller
Doesn't the spark plug number tell you the gap ... i.e. 0.9mm in this case ?
7 wonders of the world
The 9 is the heat range whic is very cold for a Duratec, standard is 6, Cosworh run only 7 or 8 on full race use, I'll be running 7's on mine, just set mine to 1.1mm and all is happy. Too young to be old !
elie boone
Those where the plugs i have taken out. So the correct plug is B7EF or does it has a different code ?
weeman
So the correct plug is B7EF or does it has a different code I don't know if Im splitting hairs or if they are the same thing but the plugs I just bought for mine were B7EFS. Not sure what gap I set them at though, 0.9mm I seem to remember. _________________________ Be Lucky!! RD
Was just doing some research and found this recent question regarding the 2.3 litre duratec. As I was, this very morning, fitting new plugs to my CSR200 which has the 2.3 litre duratec, the correct plug for this is the NGK BR7EFS with a gap of 0.026” (0.66mm). They cost about £10 for four from these folks here or these here. The plug & gap was confirmed to me by Cosworth. Rob
paul jacobs
Isn't it nice to buy something for a Cosworth engine that doesn't cost a fortune, but as a matter of interest, does anyone know why they need changing so often i.e. every 10,000 miles or annually, in my case after only 3000 miles last year 😔 Paul J. Rob Walker
Are you burning them out Paul ? Mine have been in 4 years and still good and I run wasted spark. Rob
paul jacobs
No Rob, just adhering to the servicing schedules for a change 😬 Paul J.
Tony Whitley
Just for information: I measured the gap on the BR7EFS I just took out of my (Minister) 2.3 and they were 50 thou! Not eroded, they were bent well back. Maybe it will start a bit better now
Paul Deslandes
Whilst researching something else I found a Ford technical note a while ago recommending a 32thou gap to prevent excessive voltage stress damaging the CoP units.
7 wonders of the world
9 is a very cold plug for the Duratec even heavily tuned ones only normally run at NGK 7 grade. Plug gap depends on ignition systems used and compression ratio too.
