    CSR Lubricants

For my CSR; 5w50 Motul race fully synth ester (from opie oils) Gearbox oil cc ep80 Diff cc ep90 with lube guard if you have a LSD Brake and clutch Dot 4 Coolant comma xstream red Wheel bearing grease castrol LM Plugs Cone filter You could change the fuel filter if really keen Rob Edited by - RD on 29 Jul 2012 22:07:04
  2. Mostly due to friction and conduction from the engine. I know my CSR Caterham 6 speed must get hot on summer days particularly. Not sure of actual temps but 80 would seem viable; one of the reasons I drain and replace the gearbox oil each year. Rob
  3. Paul, could it be a coil pack ; as each spark plug has its own coil pack on the CSR maybe one of them has packed in. I know this doesn't align with your observation that all plugs were sooty, but if the car had been always running rich that may have been a red herring. Coil packs are sometimes un reliable. PS a failed coil pack will make it run and sound rough as it is on 3 cylinders, also a cylinder of unburnt fuel will be deposited out the exhaust each stroke so will really smell. Which engine Oil?

Simples Caterham state their 5w/50 which is a hydro cracked 'fully synth' class 3 I believe. I now use 5w/50 motul sport Esther fully synth class 5 from opie oils. Works really well costs a bit more. Rob

  12. Andrew, on the CSR what is the configuration of the hub? Specifically interested in what is involved in taking apart and repacking i.e. undo split pin, remove large castellated nut... and...? for inner/outer bearings. Alos, what is the re-torque procedure? Many thanks Rob
